Mar. 13th, 2024 03:46 pmI have the h/c exchange sign up open in a tab. This is progress, now I just need to fill it in before the deadline in a couple of days.
Yesterday was my lymphedema appointment. Kayleigh ended up taking me and in return I looked after Bodhi afterwards while Kayleigh and Lucy went to Bodhi's first nursery parents evening.
I'd gone in with the intention of asking to swap from compression wraps back to knee-high compression stockings. But, the nurse said that wasn't a good idea while I was actively working on losing weight. While I was disappointed, she does have a point as the stockings are made to measure and if my legs change size, I'd lose compression. While, with the wraps I can just tighten if needed.
But, what she has done is ask if I can have two sets of wraps. The issue I've always had is the Velcro keeping the straps closed wears out quickly, and they pop open and slide down my legs. I imagine for people who mostly sit still this isn't an issue, but I do get out and walk every day, and only tend to have good compression for a month or so. I've remedied this a little by buying Velcro, which I use as back up to hold the straps closed, but of course that isn't ideal. And neither is the fact one pair means if I wash them, I obviously can't wear them as they're being washed. So, two pairs would be great. Technically, I'm only allowed one pair every six months due to cost, but she's trying anyway, so fingers crossed.
She's also arranging an appointment for three months to remeasure, which will be great. I'm supposed to go twice a year, but they've been so short-staffed that my last appointment was last July, so my wraps are in a sorry state now.
It was a new lady I saw, Grahame is off on long term sick, and Jeanette, the lady I had after him, left, so they've been scrambling for staff. But, they've got two new full-time specialists now, including the lady I saw, someone part-time, and Grahame will be going back soon, so apparently, appointments will be going out in good time from now on.
She also stressed she'd noted I'd need transport, so next time there shouldn't be a mix-up again.
So, not what I expected going in, but not a bad appointment, really.

Date: 2024-03-15 08:00 pm (UTC)I promise to keep everything crossed you will get your second pair of wraps!
So good to hear their staff problems seem to have been solved so you will be able to get appointments as often as you should.

Date: 2024-03-20 01:52 pm (UTC)I do hope I get the two pairs of wraps. But I won't actually know until I pick them up, which I assume will be next week as they need to get made. But, fingers crossed as having two would solve some problems.
My next appointment is already here for June, so looks like the staffing issues are over at last.
