Jun. 6th, 2024 04:38 pmKevin has his appointment at the vet yesterday and got a mostly clean bill of health. It was a locum vet, and she said he's healthy and happy, but has a small bit of congestion and an irritated ear. So, no antibiotics needed, but she did recommend he has cat vitamins and also his ear cleaned, and to go back in ten days to check it out. He also got a nail clip, which was much needed.
Once I took him back home, it was onto the town as I needed to pick up some things and also needed to go to the EE shop. A few days ago my phone went weird, all the volume works perfectly, apart from the ringtone and any notification sounds, all of which are very low. I've messed with settings, the volume levels and nothing worked.
The lady in the shop couldn't get them to work either, and cutting a very long story short. Ended up arranging a phone call from Google to see what they could do as the handset is only two months old. Turns out what they can do is replace the phone, but, I either have to send the original one back first, leaving me with no phone for up to 12 days. Or, they'll send the replacement out first, but I have to reserve the cost of the handset, which is just under £700, and then they'll release the money back to our account once they get my phone.
Which leaves me at a stalemate right now, as I can't tie that amount of money up for nearly a fortnight, nor can I be without a phone for that amount of time. EE could also send it to be fixed, but again, it would take nearly 14 days to send it away and get it back. So while I have a guarantee, I can't actually use it right now.
The last option is the same day repair EE shop in Newcastle, but it's turning out almost impossible to get through to them to make an appointment as you can't just turn up. So for now, I just have to keep my phone very close by at all times in case someone calls or gets in touch.
After that Kayleigh's original babysitter had fallen through, so I had to pick up Bodhi from nursery, before heading to the park, then the play café before dropping her off at her other auntie's once she'd finished work at 5. Checked Kayleigh's cats, as both Kayleigh and Lucy were on sleep ins yesterday, got home and was in bed before nine.
Tomorrow it's James' awards ball. He's checked, and his tux still fits, my dress is out and ready, and I know it'll be a good night. But man, pjs, tv and couch seems more appealing just now.

Date: 2024-06-06 05:03 pm (UTC)That is such a pain about the phone! Why can't they send you the new phone, and only bill you if they don't receive the old phone back within X number of days? Same end result without you having to be so inconvenienced, as if 700 is nothing.
Yay for more play cafe! *g*
I hope you have a grand time tomorrow!

Exactly! The lady in EE made that point too. I totally get they want some security in case I didn't send my old phone back. But nearly 700 is just too much to have tied up for weeks.
I had an excellent time at the ball, thank you.

Date: 2024-06-07 11:54 pm (UTC)Are there "burn phones" available over there? Not ideal, but here, you can get a phone for as little as $15, and buy a month's worth of time (usually around $25). So yeah, not great, but should be less than £700. Of course, you'd either need to switch your number to it, or give important people the temporary number.
Enjoy the awards ball! I agree with you, a night in sounds more appealing, but it's not a bad thing to dress up and do something special once in a while!

Date: 2024-06-08 08:35 am (UTC)Me too! The vet said he needs to boost his immune system to try to stop the recurring infections, therefore, vitamins. Hopefully, they'll work a bit.
Yeah, I suspect I will have to buy a burn phone. The lady in EE said I'd be able to swap the sim card so would keep my number while my own phone was gone. Just, I'd have to deal with a non-smart phone, which I will do instead of reserving £700 for weeks. I've an appointment at the same day repair place tomorrow, but if that doesn't work, the burn phone it is.
I did have a good night out, so I'm glad I did get dressed up.

Date: 2024-06-08 03:32 pm (UTC)I suspect I will have to get a cheap second hand phone and switch the sim and just send my phone away. We don't even have a landline now, so I'd be completely cut off without my mobile.

Date: 2024-06-08 07:10 pm (UTC)It must be so frustrating for you to not have a phone you can rely on! Having to reserve such a large sum for a replacement phone sounds ridiculous. I'll keep everything crossed you can get it fix at the same-day-repair shop!
