Jun. 25th, 2024 06:19 pmWe've been to see The Bikeriders today, and what a great, if slightly plot thin, film. Tom Hardy, Austin Butler and Jodie Comer were all fantastic and were compelling to watch. Also, I'm not surprised in the slightest there is already Benny/Johnny fic, and for bandom people who enjoyed her writing, a lovely short by inlovewithnight
Yesterday was just as busy as I expected. It was also the hottest day of the year by far, and that made the weight management class challenging. At least the exercise part of it. As he was off on annual leave, James could go for the first time in weeks, and ended up having to tap out twice and rest before going back. I managed the whole session, but by the end was drenched in sweat and was bright red.
At the end of the session the regulars were talking along with Rosie, about how the Zumba class had just walked in while we were cooling down last week. It turns out that while our class did overrun, the next one isn't supposed to start until 12:15 so there was a lot of indignation on Rosie's behalf that they'd just came in and started to pick up equipment to clear the floor. And, as strange as it seems, it was nice to bond like that, that we have our own group, even if we're all total beginners.
I did think to take a change of clothes but I still had sweaty hair and bright red skin when we went to the cafe for lunch. So much so the lady behind the counter insisted that she would carry my tray to the table, even though I felt perfectly fine. I always post a pic on my Insta stories just for accountability’ sake, it's nice to post and get the positive support, but man, I'm glad the pics themselves only stay up a day *g*
After lunch, it was time to go to the hospice and my lymphoedema appointment, which went very well.
Initially, my lymph nurse wasn't going to do measurements as I was only there 3 months ago, but then changed her mind as we'd been talking about how I've been trying to lose weight. After they were done it turns out I've lost over 3 litres of fluid from one leg and 2.5 from the other, which is pretty great. Guess all the marching, squats and going up and down aerobic steps really does make a difference.
My nurse was so amazingly pleased for me, and going to admit, I was happy myself. Next appointment is in six months, but she's going to push for me to get two sets of wraps again, so that's great as they should last okay until then.
Oh, and I saw Grahame, though it took a moment to recognise him as he's grown a huge, black, bushy beard. Guess his new role of being in charge comes along with a new look.
Left that appointment, and we had time to spare, so hung out at the beach for a bit before going for our second cat visit of the day before heading back to the doctors, so I could get my B12 injection, which was much needed as it was two weeks overdue, and wow, was I feeling it.
So, that was yesterday, I've just come back in after today's second cat visit of the day, so am about to have a lobster bath and book, then have new House of the Dragon to watch, because we both flaked on watching last night, and then tomorrow we're taking my MiL out for the day.

Date: 2024-06-26 11:25 am (UTC)I'm glad your class went as well as it could with the heat, and that you all bonded over the Zumba class coming in early last time!
I hope you had a good lunch.
What great news about the fluid loss!!
And yay for fitting in some beach time before doing kitty duty.
I hope you're already feeling better after having had the B12 shot.

Date: 2024-07-03 09:13 am (UTC)The heat made class so much more difficult, I suspect if I lived in a place where it was hot often I'd need air con before even thinking about doing exercise.
It was excellent news about the fluid loss, and yeah, I am feeling better. Thank you.

Date: 2024-06-27 12:32 am (UTC)That's so nice that you check on the cats twice a day. I'd definitely let you cat-sit for me... if we didn't live so far apart!

Date: 2024-07-03 09:15 am (UTC)Oh, I'd cat sit for you in an instant if we lived closer. I'd love to see your kitties.
But yeah, I didn't mind going twice a day, that way they'd get company as well as the practical stuff.

Date: 2024-06-29 06:09 pm (UTC)I skipped this post of yours previously because I didn't want to go in pre-disposed, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you. I also came home and immediately texted my cousin Dennis, the motorcycle club president, ahaha. If he was more controlling, Tom Hardy could have been playing cousin Dennis! lol

Date: 2024-06-30 06:52 am (UTC)I really liked the film, visually it was often stunning and I loved the main characters. It had me on the edge of my seat a few times but I do think some parts needed explaining a bit more, like when Benny took off for so long. But at the same time, I know the way it was filmed created that distance due to how often the story was being told via Kathy. It would have also been good to see more about how Kathy felt about things, she was such a great character and her life did change a lot.
Which reminds me, that scene with the red dress, that really did have me on the end of my seat, and just showed how much the club had changed.
Tom Hardy was fantastic, and I liked the character, an obvious violent thug, but one with lines he wouldn't cross and an actual job and family. That part where he left his wife and she asked him to bring back, eggs I think, ouch. My heart!
So, has Dennis plans to see the film? *g*

Date: 2024-06-29 06:33 pm (UTC)It's so funny how all being a bit annoyed about something can cause a group of Brits to really get down to bonding :), I hope that part of it (not the rude zumba people) continues :D

Date: 2024-06-30 06:40 am (UTC)Thank you so much! I suspected it would do some good, but had no idea just how much.

You're so right! *g*
We were all stood around complaining about the Zumba class and how disrespectful they'd been. I think it was the first time we'd all stayed as a group to chat, and like you, hope it continues.

Date: 2024-06-29 07:49 pm (UTC)That's another fabulous feat of yours! I hope you're very proud of yourself having managed to loose so much fluid! I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll get two sets of wraps this time too. Oh, so you need a big beard if you're going to be in charge. I had no idea ;-D
I hope you enjoyed your bath and had a good day out with the MiL.

Date: 2024-06-30 06:37 am (UTC)I was so pleased at the lymph appointment. And yeah, I hope I do get the two set of wraps again. The script goes to my doctor who then sends it off, and when I checked they still hadn't done so on Friday just gone, so it'll be a while before I know how many I actually get.
And yes, I had no idea about the big beard rule either *g*
I did have a good day out with my MiL. It's been a nice week, but am pleased I have nothing concrete to do today.
