James is taking my oldest nephew to a railway museum today, so I'm getting some relaxing time in the house with the cats. Though, I do need to drag myself off this chair and go hang out the washing and actually hoover soon. ETA: And that has been done, in fact, the washing was hung out and then brought in again as it started to rain. At least I've already stashed the wheelchair in the cupboard -- not as easy as it sounds as the cupboard is stuffed with stuff and badly needs sorting -- so no more shuffling past it in the hallway.

My nephew cracked me up as he did his usual hinting via FB message yesterday. He never asks outright if James will take him places, just always gets in touch with us both, asking our plans. Then, if we're doing something, he just replies 'ok' and leaves it there. But if we've nothing on, actually asks to go where he wants to go.

My nephew was actually been assigned his permanent home this week, which is great. He's been in the assessment home for nearly six months now, and they finally got a placement for him that fits. He'll be moving into a two-bedroom flat with another person around his age, and they'll live there on a semi-independent basis. Having to cook, clean etc themselves but with a carer based in the building and there for support if needed.

It's been a busy week. On Wednesday we took my MiL to Barnard Castle. We tend to go there often with her as it's a beautiful drive to get there, going via the moors, and we always pick up trays of eggs from the farm honesty shop.

It was market day so we ate outside at the deli we like, though, sadly, they didn't have any soup as apparently it's not a summer menu item, so I had a cheese and onion pie, and just watched the world go by.

While eating, Corey phoned saying he's put in for a new flat, so my MiL was thrilled at that, saying both her grandsons were getting new places within a week. I hope she's right, as the rental housing market is very quick right now in Newcastle, and Corey still wasn't sure if he'd actually got the lease. If he has, he'll be moving in with his girlfriend, and his dad and me will be looking at helping move him for the fifth time. So, fingers crossed that works out.

Thursday we went to Beamish, the living museum, that's pretty local to us. What I like about it is once you get your ticket you can use it for a full year, and I get in free as James' carer, so it's a pretty cheap day out for us. Last time we were there they'd just opened the first part of the 50s village, and now loads more buildings have opened. Including miner's welfare bungalows, a police house, a bowling green and a row of shops, including a milk bar, record shop and toy shop. There's also a cinema, but that doesn't open until the 6th of next month, so we'll be back then to check that out.

What I found funny was the houses in the 50s village looked like the one I live in now from the outside, and inside had so many things I remember being in my nanna and granddad's houses. For example, the fire poker and rake set shaped like a Knight. So many people seemed to have one of those.

We did so much walking that day, and I'm sure the step to get into the trams keeps getting higher. That or my legs are getting shorter.

Friday we headed to the cinema and saw A Quiet Place, Day One. It was okay, nothing special, though I did spend a lot of time worrying about the cat.

Yesterday there was a coffee morning event to help support Consett Cats, the rescue where we got our mogs. It was only a small event, more to allow the adopters to chat, but there were a couple of stalls and a tombola, and we won a few things on there. Highlights being an incense burner, but the kind where the smoke falls down like a waterfall, and a huge sports water bottle that will be excellent for taking to class.

Then, after that, went to Re.F.Use for lunch for the first time in a while. I had a very tasty veggie lasagna before having a look at the community larder, where there were so many mushrooms available that a volunteer was telling everyone to take some. There was also a load of eggs, but as I'd just got some from the farm a few days earlier, I didn't take any.

Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi had arrived home at 4am Sat, so my cat caring duties were at an end from yesterday. While it wasn't an issue to do, it was still nice to be able to stay at home last night and not have to go out again.

One of the days I got tickets for Hamilton at Sunderland Empire next year. I've been on the advance list for tickets for ages, and got so lucky checking my email literally minutes after the link to buy was released. So we have stalls, centre aisle, not far back at all seats. :D

And that's it. James has one more day of annual leave left tomorrow, but with class, grocery shopping for stuff for his bait etc it'll be just a normal day off.

Wow, you have been busy! Sounds like a lot of fun stuff, but still. Oh, the frustration of putting the laundry up only to have to take it back down again! Yay for having your evenings back to yourself! Also, eating out, one of my favorite things. *g*

I wasn't going to sign up for Fandom Gift Basket, but then you linked to it, and I am a sucker for this kind of thing, as Turlough always says! Plus, this way, I can ask for The Bikeriders icons. *g*

I hope you enjoyed your relaxing day and have a nice read tonight or something enjoyable with James!

Yay, Hamilton! That was fortuitous!

Oooh I'm jealous you got Hamilton tickets - Li & I were hoping to get some for Plymouth but then they went on sale pretty much the same time I was having issues with my car costing me a fortune. I haven't looked to see if there's anything left - and tickets for Joseph are also on sale. Fingers crossed for some seats still available in a couple of months once I've (hopefully)got my feet back under me.

Scoring tickets for Hamilton is quite a coup, I suspect. Have you seen it on Disney+ already or will this be your first experience?

MIL needed an eye test, I suppose. (There are some things we will never forgive!) The Beamish living museum sounds very interesting.

I hope Corey gets the flat he wants.

Woo Hoo Hamilton!!

What excellent news for your nephew, and all the fingers scrossed for Corey's flat situation, too. That seeking a new rental thing is tough.

Ooh, the mid-century part of the museum sounds FASCINATING - we've a farmhouse at the Museum of Rural Life here that's done out like that, and there are so many things I remember from my Grandma's and Granny's houses.

Of course it started raining after you'd hung the washing! If you hadn't it would have stayed sunny :-)

I'll keep my fingers crossed the new living situation for the nephew will work out. And also that Corey will get that flat!

Beamish has always sounded like such a fantastic place to visit and with the 50s village even more so! The open-air museum in Stockholm has started adding stuff from the 30s but it's still mostly centred on older stuff.

I'm sure the step to get into the trams keeps getting higher. That or my legs are getting shorter.

Maybe it's BOTH! ;-D

Mushrooms, yum!

Congratulations to your Hamilton tickets!!!

Skansen is probably the place I miss most from when I lived in Stockholm. I used to visit it several times a year. Sometimes just to wander around and look at nature and the gardens and the glorious views of the rest of town.
