Jul. 9th, 2024 11:12 amWe talked about dairy in the weight management class yesterday, and it was actually much more interesting than I expected when I first saw the topic. Then, for the exercise side of things, Rosie introduced a slam ball, and that was fun. I had great satisfaction in stotting the thing against the floor. Apparently, she's been buying new equipment and in the next few weeks will be introducing battle ropes. I am a bit intrigued, and also afraid.
I haven't posted since, but I was there last week too, so my streak hasn't ended. But last week, it went like this.
Monday was James' last annual leave day off. The week before he had a rash on the back of his leg and had gone to see the nurse practitioner who gave a cream. By Monday the rash had got worse, so he went to see the doctor, who was concerned it had turned to cellulitis, and prescribed megadoses of antibiotics four times a day. He strongly suggested James stay off work, but James wanted to go back. So did on the Tuesday.
Got that day done, and he went to head off on Wednesday, and had to turn back ten minutes into the journey as he felt so ill, and then just got worse, pretty much sleeping the rest of the week. He's much better now, but was back at the doctors yesterday and has been signed off for another week just to make sure this has totally gone.
This whole week is full of medical appointments now. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday too, and while it went well, and was given meds for something I'd gone in about, my blood pressure was also slightly high. That has never happened before, and I suspect the machine not coping with my arm flab didn't help. So, I was sent off to have it taken by the big machine where you shove your arm in a tube. That's off the reception and while I was there, trying to work the thing out the doctor appeared out of nowhere, saw the slightly high reading and said I have to go back on Thursday for a recheck with the nurse. Hopefully, it'll be back to normal then, as it was fine a few weeks ago.
While James was at his appointment, he mentioned how he wasn't under an AMC specialist now and asked if there were any in the area. Amazingly, by the afternoon the doctor had found someone with an interest in AMC who agreed to see James, but first he has to see individual specialists, so, he has an appointment with an upper limb consultant on Monday, and then has an up to 16 week wait for a lower limb consultant. He's got no intention of having more surgeries, but it'll be good to have someone who actually knows his case in case something goes wrong.
He's also got an appointment with the spinal specialist on Friday to start the ball rolling to get his back injections done again. That's an NHS appointment at the private hospital, so hopefully it won't be too long to wait to get them actually done.
He's also got a chiropodist appointment on Wednesday, so it's good he is off work. Though, not sure how much rest he's getting.
It's my MiL's birthday today, so we're off for a family meal later. Of course, it's raining heavily and cold, so can't say I'm looking forward to getting there much. The meal and company, yes, going out and getting wet, nope.
And on a totally different subject. I've been looking for a dupe of Subway's sweet onion sauce for ages, and never found anything similar. Recently I saw Aldi had brought out dupes of three Subway sauces, one of them the sweet onion, so I got some a few days ago. It's not an exact dupe, but is very close, so I'm happy. I found them in the limited time aisle, so went back to get more yesterday, and of course, none were left. So, I see a search of other branches will be in my future.
Ah, Rosie just text'ed to say the drop in session isn't on next Monday, and I was actually disappointed. I don't recognise myself anymore!

Date: 2024-07-09 11:17 am (UTC)I hope James is feeling better. Was it the rash or the antibiotics? (If you feel comfortable saying.)
Ugh, rain and cold. (We're supposed to have a high of 88(F) today before chances of thunderstorms for the next week or so. o_O) I hope you have a good time out, despite the weather.

Date: 2024-07-10 08:47 am (UTC)No issue about saying at all. The doctor thought it was a combination of the rash, which had started to get infected, but mostly the antibiotics. Because James has to wear a splint on his leg to walk, his skin is always covered up by a plastic shell/sock combo which means it doesn't get much air to it which would help the rash to heal. So the doctor pretty much gave the strongest oral antibiotics he could, and while they did work, came along with some nasty side effects.
I did have a nice time out, thank you. But it rained all day, so I was glad to get inside.

Date: 2024-07-11 04:24 pm (UTC)Poor James! It's good to hear he's feeling better now but it totally sucks that it happened. I hope all his specialist appointments will go very well *keeps fingers crossed*
I really hope your elevated blood presure were indeed just a fluke! It's happened to me several times times over the years so it can't be that unusual.
Oh no! You've got addicted to exercise! The horror!! ;-P

Date: 2024-07-17 03:37 pm (UTC)They really do. I hope Rosie brings them on Monday so I can have a go. Then will no doubt complain Monday afternoon *g*
All of James' appointments have gone well, but his leg still isn't healing very well. But, at least he's seen all his specialists now.
Yeah, my elevated blood pressure was a fluke it seems as it was back to being good at the recheck. No idea why it was high the first time, but I'm glad it went back to normal.
Horror indeed!

Well, it was back to being good again at the recheck, so I suspect the faff had a lot to do with it. Plus, the nurse had no fear about pulling the cuff really tight after apologising in case my arm flab was nipped. But, I'd rather that and get a correct reading than not pulling it tight.
