Jul. 30th, 2024 11:39 amAnother weight management class yesterday. Quite a few people turned up so we did each spot of the circuit in pairs, and I had enough breath to talk to my paired lady about half of the time, which I'm taking as a win. We talked about diabetes for the first part, which was interesting enough. But the advice was pretty much what we'd covered in previous sessions, just brought together.
One thing though, we were talking about drinks and Rosie said that no sugar squash still wasn't the best as it still has that sweet hit that makes you want more. And I'm sorry, there's some advice I'm prepared to ignore, and that's one example. I've cut way down on drinking fizzy drinks, only drinking them when I'm eating out, but drink a load of sugar-free squash. I don't mind drinking water, but do like a bit of flavour, so in this case will stick to what I'm doing.
I also reminded her she needed to send out the link to re-sign for the programme, so last night she emailed me that link, along with some videos of lymph drainage exercises. They're very gentle, which I expected, but I didn't expect so much arm whirling. I'll have to make sure I'm not standing under the light shade when I give the routine a go, or I'll knock it down.
Before class, James had to go to the doctor again, and the infection in his leg is still there. The doctor has put him on antibiotics again, changing them from the last lot, and said if it doesn't improve by the end of the week he'll have to go daily to the hospital to get IV antibiotics. So fingers crossed these new ones kick in. He's also been signed off work for three weeks, has to keep his splint off as much as possible and has to stay out of the sun as apparently direct sunlight causes a reaction with these new antibiotics. Which is a shame for him as the weather is beautiful just now.
Kevin has also been on antibiotics lately for his usual issue. The vet issued them over the phone this time but said next time he's ill he needs to go in for tests and find out exactly what keeps causing these issues. Obviously, while I don't want him to go in, he can't keep taking antibiotics as often as he has been, so I agree with her decision. Thankfully, he'll be fully insured so no expense for us, no matter what they have to do.
On the plus side for Kevin, I won the monthly adopters draw from Kevin and Murphy's shelter and the prize came yesterday. The mogs were very happy with their treats and toys, and now the house smells of cat nip.
It was my brother's birthday yesterday, I dropped him a card off, but also going out for sibs dinner with him and Kayleigh tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it, it's been too long since we've all been out together.

Date: 2024-07-30 12:47 pm (UTC)I'm sorry James still has the infection! I hope this round of antibiotics help. (No more infection, but also no daily trips to the hospital!)
Poor Kevin! It'll be good to have the tests done as the poor boy really has had a lot of infections!
Happy birthday to your brother! I hope you enjoy the sibling dinner.

Date: 2024-07-31 07:58 am (UTC)Daily trips to the hospital would be the worst! And that's without trying to get IV access for James. But, this morning the infection does seem less hot so I hope it's a good sign.
I feel for Kevin, he must have some lingering issue that keeps flaring up and I agree they really need to find out what it is. I've never known a more snotty and sneezy cay.
I'm really looking forward to dinner. It's been far too long since all three of us went out.

Date: 2024-07-31 02:18 pm (UTC)The house of antibiotics! D: I hope James heals up and doesn't have to go in for IV, what a drag. I hope you find out what's up with Kevin. We had 2 kittens a dozen years ago that were constantly constantly sick and a million vet trips later we eventually we found out it was FIP. (Which has a cure now!!!) Got fingers crossed for him.

Date: 2024-07-31 03:09 pm (UTC)I agree about all or nothing thinking. I was actually surprised about the advice not to drink sugar-free squash because while I can see the point that it can be sweet which may cause cravings for more sweetness, normally the advice is everything in moderation. And really, life would be sad if I was just drinking water.
It really has been the house of antibiotics. Kevin had his last one today, but James is still hiding from the sun.
I hope they can find the underlying issue with Kevin. He's fine in himself mostly, then gets yet another infection, has antibiotics, is cured, then it happens all over again. So, I'm not surprised at all the vet has said it's time to check things out.

Date: 2024-08-01 01:12 am (UTC)Poor James and poor Kevin. I'm on anti-biotics for a week now myself. Anyway, I hope they're both doing better soon.

Date: 2024-08-02 02:54 pm (UTC)I'm not surprised at all you ended up on antibiotics too. I assume it's for the bite? Hope it's feeling a bit better now.
And, I keep meaning to say, I love your icon so much.

Date: 2024-08-02 08:20 pm (UTC)I'm glad I went. Another free trip to urgent care, and less than $5 for the pills. Even better, there were no other patients there when I went. I walked right in, and they saw me immediately. I think I was out of there within about 15 minutes. My hand looks good. The wounds are not really noticeable anymore. They punctured, but not that deeply.
Many thanks! She has so many cute pictures, that it's hard to choose one. With my limited slots, she bumped a rarely used Gibbs icon. LOL

Date: 2024-08-01 11:38 pm (UTC)But I'm inclined to agree. I only drink water when I'm hiking, and even then only because I'm using a bladder that I also use for the dogs, so can't really put anything other than water in it. I'd sack off that advice as well

Date: 2024-08-02 10:38 am (UTC)That is an excellent saying, I do like that.
Yeah, I have no guilt sacking off the advice. I don't mind drinking water, but it'll never be my first choice. And if the sugar free squash helps me get the fluids I need, I'll use it.

Date: 2024-08-02 07:32 pm (UTC)I quite like drinking water and it's my prefered drink with food. The only time I want something with more taste is when it's really hot. I definitely don't want anything the least sweet however so after lots of experimenting with various drinkables I've settled on cold-brew tea. Usually using whatever flavoured black tea I happen to have at home right then.
I hope those drainage exercises will do you good!
Poor James! I'm keeping everything crossed he will be free of that pesky infection soon!
Poor Kevin too! I hope they will manage to find whatever is the actual cause next time.
Congratulations to the draw win!
I hope you'd a good time with the siblings!

Date: 2024-08-02 09:08 pm (UTC)Everything in moderation and all that - it's not like diluting juice is terribly strong and you've been getting good results without cutting it out - including the being able to talk at the circuits, that's fantastic!

Date: 2024-08-03 07:55 am (UTC)That's what I think about the juice too, it's not strong, and it's not like I'm downing pints of actual fruit juice. So yes, moderation is the key.
Talking at the circuits was great. I was chatting to the lady while we were both doing planks against the wall, and it suddenly hit me, that not only was I doing it, I had breath to talk too.
