Aug. 26th, 2024 01:47 pmIf you remember last time I posted, I was about to pick up Bodhi and go to Moo Bears to see Spiderman. Well, we did that, and he did climb on the ceiling! The guy playing the role was one heck of a gymnast as he kept flipping in place, balancing on one hand and hung from the ceiling and from the top of the soft play structure. He also must have endless amounts of patience, as after the photos, he ended up being chased around by a group of kids who wanted to hi-five and just be close to him. Also, put random toys on his head for some reason.
I'm still not sure if Bodhi actually knew who this character was, but she did sit on his shoulder for her photo opportunity and gave lots of enthusiastic waves when he looked in her direction.
The next day was also a Bodhisitting day, from 9-6. We decided to change it up a bit and not go to one of the play cafés, instead going to a small soft play centre at the beach. It's not that big and has trampolines and a bouncy castle, along with the usual £1 rides and grab machines. While Bodes was excited to go in at first, it was a bit of a fail as age wise she fell between the young toddler section and the big kids part. So, we only stayed for about an hour and headed off to The Stack which was a few minutes walk away.
That's an entertainment/food place made out of stacking containers, with a stage and tables in the middle. We'd had to pass there while going to soft play and noticed there was an event on later, and it turned out it was a kids event based around The Trolls. It also only cost £1.50 per child to get in, so that was a bonus.
Another bonus, we bumped into our next door neighbours who were there with their six-year-old daughter. Bodhi knows Jessica well, so we all ended up sitting together, and had two hours of Troll time. Jessica and Bodhi danced and clapped and had their photo taken with two Trolls, and it just all worked out so well.
When we left there, I stayed with Bodhi at Kayleigh's as James had to go help Corey do the final bits of his move, doing a tip run and then taking the last few things to the new flat. Thankfully, that's all done now and Corey is quite happy getting his new place in order.

Tomorrow is my last really long Bodhi sitting day as Lucy has her new shifts and I won't be needed as often from next month. I'm sure we'll still end up at the play cafés, just, there won't be any need to be up there for 7:30 and not leave until after six, so that's good.
Weight management class isn't on today with it being a bank holiday. But, some thoughts about the last two
The class a fortnight ago was about drinks, and while the alcoholic side wasn't really relevant, it was interesting to discuss coffee shop drinks. It's no secret I like a Costa, and I do know that some of the frappés are ridiculously high in calories and sugar due to them having to display nutritional information. But actually talking about that really drives it in that they really shouldn't be an everyday thing. Rosie suggested getting a black americano as the best option, which I agree would probably be best in terms of calories etc, but if I'm going to be spending money on a coffee I'll stick to my skinny lattes, either iced or normal. Or even the coffee frappé, because sometimes you just want something icy and delicious without counting every macro.
The class last week was called 23 and a half, which was intriguing as I had no idea what we were going to discuss. Turns out it was how to get exercise into your day, and instead of framing it as, try to get 30 active minutes into your day, they said, try not to passively sit or lie down for 23 hours and 30 minutes, which I thought was a good way of making you think, as that seems like a really long time to be doing nothing at all.
Rosie stressed any movement counts, and no matter how little, it's better than none, and I do like that no pressure, no guilt format.
In between those two classes, it was our first official one-to-one for the second 6-month session. While we did both get weighed that wasn't discussed as technically it was a new start, but as both me and James check and record our weekly weights in Fitbit, I know I'd dropped another half stone since the last meeting with Rosie, so that was good.
Really, what we did in this meeting was refocus on goals. Mine is to try to drink more plain water along with the sugar-free squash and to vary up the exercise at home that I do. I try to do You Tube based cardio routines every day and get walks in, but Rosie suggested adding in strength training, as I enjoy that in class. I do have dumbbells and a resistance band, but the heaviest dumbbells are only 1.5kg and I'm up to 10 at class, so am looking at getting some heavier ones for home. I did pick up two stronger bands at the charity shop, so I need to find a good resistance band routine to add to my rotation.
Though, I do have to be careful atm as I seem to have damaged muscles in my right side somehow as they constantly ache. I did go to the doctor about it, but they ruled out other stuff and think I've pulled something in class, which is just typical.

Date: 2024-09-09 12:18 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for that link!
I've subscribed and have been enjoying her videos. Honestly, I think the move from weight loss to a health focus is why I'm enjoying my classes so much. SO, having fun while moving really ties into that.

The class really does sound interesting. And I like that it's low pressure.

The guy playing Spider Man was great, I was very impressed. It was good we bumped into our neighbours as Bodhi did enjoy dancing with her friend. Better them dancing than me!

Date: 2024-08-26 07:14 pm (UTC)The class stuff is SO interesting - although I'm totally with you on the coffee, one does not need the sugar everyday or anything, but a properly factored in coffee of your choice is definitely not unreasonable (albeit some of costa's fancy drinks are unreal) - it's all balance, right? A skinny latte can't be terrible macro-wise?

I'm glad people don't seem to mind me talking about it, as it does help fix things in my head to write about them after. I don't actually mind an americano, but much prefer other coffees, so if I have the choice I'll always take the skinny latte. Even the coffee frostinos/frappes aren't that bad really, and really, life is hard enough without always taking the lowest calories options.

Date: 2024-08-26 07:29 pm (UTC)I'm glad things are going well with your weight loss class. But yeah, it's not unreasonable to treat yourself every now and then! My doctor also tells me the strength training is very important, but I find it hard to motivate myself. I'll do it one day, and think it's not so bad, then forget to ever do it again! Ooops!

Date: 2024-09-09 11:44 am (UTC)I suspect you have to enjoy being with kids when you do a job like that, because the poor guy was hounded for nearly an hour.

Exactly! Life would be bleak if you couldn't treat yourself on occasions. I keep being told strength training is important too. But have to admit, as much as I enjoy it, it's much easier to do in class than home alone.

Date: 2024-09-09 11:40 am (UTC)They were both good days.
I try to take Bodhi out when I'm looking after her, for my sake as well as hers. I think we'd both go stir crazy if we were stuck in the house too long.

Date: 2024-08-28 07:50 pm (UTC)I would only ever want to go out for ridiculously sugary coffee drinks when it's really hot. Otherwise I would demand my usual plain tea without either milk or sugar. But yeah, letting it be an every-day thing is probably good for neither your health nor your finances.
That's a great way of looking at exercise that I must remember!
How very typical that you've strained something in your fitness class! Hopefully it will heal speedily and without complications *keep fingers crossed*

True for both of them. Thankfully, I'm not really keen on the extra sugary drinks, so am happy with a latte. Though, for finance sake, I don't have as many of them as previously. I still can't believe it's £5 for a latte these days, that's ridiculous!

I'm going to remember it too. I had no idea what 23 and a half would mean when I first walked into class, but it made so much sense when we talked about it.
