It was back to weight management class again yesterday

The talk this week was gut health, and I have to say, it's a topic that Rosie is obsessed about. So I already knew a bit from the one to one talks we've had. But, it's always good to talk things out and I learned lots about prebiotics and probiotics and how they help your whole body, not just your gut.

From our previous talks I've already added kefir into my diet, having half a cup for breakfast each day. Can't say I care for the plain stuff, but the flavoured is nice. Now I'm tempted to try some sauerkraut as I've never done so. I do love pickles, and vinegar, stuff like that, so am hoping that it's a natural step to like sauerkraut too. Though, Rosie did say even if you had a little and ate something after to mask the taste it would do you good. Which to me, doesn't sound like much of a recommendation taste wise.

Then we went onto the exercise side of things and Rosie had changed it up a bit. Each station had two exercises to do, and you went around with a partner, each person doing 30 seconds of one of the choices before swapping. I was partnered with a new lady and she was lovely, making me laugh often.

Especially so on the battle ropes which were awesome! It was the first time they'd been used and i have to admit I enjoyed slapping the things against the floor. My partner cracked me up as she was yelling, 'Go on girl!' as I whacked away, admittedly, making a lot of noise.

Sadly, my nemesis remains as the dreaded step was back too. Damn that thing in its three level height.

Between that and pushing James to class and back, I more than got my active minutes in yesterday. Though I remain frustrated as my steps never get counted when I'm pushing the wheelchair due to my hand staying still. Yes, I know I'm still getting the steps in, but I do like seeing them on my fitbit.

Tomorrow James has his hospital appointment where he'll finally have the backslab taken off and a lighter weight cast put on. At least, I hope so. Originally, we had patient transport to get there, but Kayleigh said she'd take us and bring us back, which is much better, as it's going to be a long, and I suspect, for James, a painful day.

I just hope the bone has started to knit a little. I know it won't be close to being healed yet, but some progress will be great. We could really do with some good news right now.

Ooooh it sounds like you might like sauerkraut! I do, it's great. I don't eat it in very healthy ways but it is great on (or in!) pierogi w/sour cream, good in soup, good in pulled pork sandwichesssss... lol. Also kimchi, give that a shot! Man, I wish I could go to your class. It sounds fun. GO ON GIRL!!! :DDD I wonder if you could stick the fitbit on your ankle? I would feel ripped off if I were counting steps, too :P

Good luck to James for tmrw!

I grew up eating sauerkraut, and love it so definitely think you should give it a try. as the name says, it's sour/pickled, but not awful (imo), and if you eat it with nice sausages and some potatoes, it's practically a German meal! *g*

sending all sorts of wishes for good news, and improvement for James

I’m also here to wave the flag for sauerkraut! We used to eat it with mashed potatoes and sausage (or hot dogs if we were trying to stretch our grocery money), but I’ll add another thumbs up for the pierogie & sour cream.

I hate it when I don’t get credit for steps! Will your Fitbit work if you put it in a pocket? Or can you sync it to a phone app?

I'm not a fan of vinegar, but my dad used to take a combo of vinegar and honey every morning. *shudder* I do take a probiotic daily, though.

When I was doing my Walmart walks, I measured it a couple of times so I knew how much one lap of the store got me, then just added that to my tracker step total. Can you determine how many steps you normally get on that walk and add it? Obviously it won't be on your tracker info, but I write mine down daily, so ... o_O

Also, I'm dying imagining you pushing his chair home, because I believe you've said it's quite a hill?

I hope James appointment goes well today and he's not in as much pain as you anticipate. *fingers crossed*

OMG, now I'm imagining you racing down the hills!!

If it was a comic, you'd be holding onto the handles, feet off the ground and flying behind you as the chair whips you along.

I'm not really a fan of sours and pickles. As a way to spice up more bland food they have their use but that's about all. (Crisps with vinegar is an abomination!!!) I salute your willingness to try new stuff!

Sounds like you'd lots of fun with the battle ropes. You WILL grow to love the steps, I'm sure you will ;-)

I see from your comment that James' appointment went well, yay!
