Oct. 15th, 2024 03:27 pmIt was back to weight management class again yesterday
The talk this week was gut health, and I have to say, it's a topic that Rosie is obsessed about. So I already knew a bit from the one to one talks we've had. But, it's always good to talk things out and I learned lots about prebiotics and probiotics and how they help your whole body, not just your gut.
From our previous talks I've already added kefir into my diet, having half a cup for breakfast each day. Can't say I care for the plain stuff, but the flavoured is nice. Now I'm tempted to try some sauerkraut as I've never done so. I do love pickles, and vinegar, stuff like that, so am hoping that it's a natural step to like sauerkraut too. Though, Rosie did say even if you had a little and ate something after to mask the taste it would do you good. Which to me, doesn't sound like much of a recommendation taste wise.
Then we went onto the exercise side of things and Rosie had changed it up a bit. Each station had two exercises to do, and you went around with a partner, each person doing 30 seconds of one of the choices before swapping. I was partnered with a new lady and she was lovely, making me laugh often.
Especially so on the battle ropes which were awesome! It was the first time they'd been used and i have to admit I enjoyed slapping the things against the floor. My partner cracked me up as she was yelling, 'Go on girl!' as I whacked away, admittedly, making a lot of noise.
Sadly, my nemesis remains as the dreaded step was back too. Damn that thing in its three level height.
Between that and pushing James to class and back, I more than got my active minutes in yesterday. Though I remain frustrated as my steps never get counted when I'm pushing the wheelchair due to my hand staying still. Yes, I know I'm still getting the steps in, but I do like seeing them on my fitbit.
Tomorrow James has his hospital appointment where he'll finally have the backslab taken off and a lighter weight cast put on. At least, I hope so. Originally, we had patient transport to get there, but Kayleigh said she'd take us and bring us back, which is much better, as it's going to be a long, and I suspect, for James, a painful day.
I just hope the bone has started to knit a little. I know it won't be close to being healed yet, but some progress will be great. We could really do with some good news right now.

Date: 2024-10-15 03:35 pm (UTC)I laughed so much when she shouted GO ON GIRL! It was a very noisy class yesterday. :D
I wonder if you could stick the fitbit on your ankle? I would feel ripped off if I were counting steps, too :P
Right!? Glad it's not just me. I mean, I walked all over yesterday, including up very steep banks. Yet, according to my Fitbit step count I was a sloth.

Date: 2024-10-15 03:54 pm (UTC)I hate it when I don’t get credit for steps! Will your Fitbit work if you put it in a pocket? Or can you sync it to a phone app?

I'm glad people get how I feel. Those are both good ideas I can try, I think I'll try syncing first, that would be perfect if I could get it to work.

Date: 2024-10-16 11:21 am (UTC)When I was doing my Walmart walks, I measured it a couple of times so I knew how much one lap of the store got me, then just added that to my tracker step total. Can you determine how many steps you normally get on that walk and add it? Obviously it won't be on your tracker info, but I write mine down daily, so ... o_O
Also, I'm dying imagining you pushing his chair home, because I believe you've said it's quite a hill?
I hope James appointment goes well today and he's not in as much pain as you anticipate. *fingers crossed*

Date: 2024-10-16 02:22 pm (UTC)I could manually add the steps to my phone app. I think I will do actually as right now my stats show that I've barely moved for a fortnight, which isn't true at all. I know it doesn't actually matter, but I don't like Fitbit showing I'm some kind of sloth *g*
It's lots of hills! From my class to get home, I have to go up a steep hill which brings me to the main shopping street, walk along that, and go up another hill, and then two ramps to get up to the Lidl opposite my house. Walk past that, and then have to go up three zigzag ramps up to the bridge that goes to the estate where I live. Then a short slope to get off that bridge. The joys of living where I do, I guess.
We actually met one of the ladies from class on the way there and she made me laugh as we were going down the last steepest hill. Seeing us, she flattened herself against the wall saying she didn't want to get caught in our momentum, and yeah, I wasn't stopping at that point.
The appointment went well, and is all over now. Thank you!

Yep, it did go well :)
