Nov. 18th, 2024 05:33 pmI saw Gladiator 2 on Saturday, and enjoyed it. Some bits were a bit gory/violent for my taste, but I expected that going in, and it's very much a film that's meant to be seen on a big screen with pounding music. So yeah, the bits I saw with my eyes open I liked a lot.
Then yesterday, we went for a walk at Durham. James' bus pass came the other day, this one with the added element meaning a companion can travel with him free, too. So, we decided to go for a ride and walk. There was a mini market in the main square, and the big Christmas tree was up, but still undecorated. Still, it was a lovely sunny, if chilly day, and I enjoyed our walk through town.
Strictly was at Blackpool on Saturday, something they always make a big deal about, and I enjoyed the show. Maybe not as much as last year when Layton and Nikita danced their epic pole dancing couple's choice, but still, I smiled a lot. I mean, who wouldn't seeing one of the contestants be lowered down on a giant glittery ketchup bottle and then dance with ketchup and mustard bottles?
The John Lewis Christmas advert dropped, and I can't say it's my favourite of theirs. Related to that video, and in some clever marketing, each year someone releases an advert in the usual John Lewis style, but does so early before the actual advert. They then label it John Lewis Inspired Christmas Advert 2024 and of course, many people skim read and think it's official, and the thing is shared everywhere. I have to be impressed by what they do, as it has to raise lots of money for the charity. You can see that video here, just be warned it's designed to tug at the heart if you've lost a loved one.
Today, James was at the hospital for another follow-up appointment. 90 minutes wait for an x-ray, and then an appointment of about five minutes with the consultant. But she's very happy with his progress, the breaks are mending with lots of calluses forming, though the elbow is still displaced, and will probably remain so now. She released the brace completely, and has said by the time she sees him again in six weeks she wants him to wean himself off wearing it at all, starting with leaving it off at home. She's also signed him off work until January, mainly due to the long commute and needing to build up his strength in his arm again. But, he has been cleared to drive, which is great, and has already had a short drive around, just because he could.
It did mean I had to miss weight management class for the first time since I started. Which felt really weird, but I know Rosie would understand.
James has got a physio appointment at the hospital at 10 tomorrow, and we'll probably drive there, though did consider using the bus as there's a severe weather warning for snow and ice tonight. But, thinking about it, there's more chance the main roads will be ice free than the pavements to and from the bus stops. At least, that's my reasoning now, that may change when I look out the window tomorrow.

Date: 2024-11-20 10:38 am (UTC)I have to admit, it pretty much left me cold. But I do like the inspired one, and am so impressed with how they get so much exposure with such a clever marketing trick. I saw so many people link the advert without realising it wasn't actually the official version. Still, a lot of money raised for a good cause. It's an excellent outcome.

It's wonderful to hear how well James arm is healing! It must be so freeing for him to be able to drive again.
I hope the drive to the physio went well this morning. I guess the weather they warned for is the same system that's going to hit us tonight and tomorrow. Though the latest forecast says it will mostly pass us by out in the Baltic.

Date: 2024-11-21 01:29 am (UTC)There are years where I just can't deal with the influx of Christmas commercials, and I think this is shaping up to be one of them. Some of them are just so...? Emotionally exhausting? Apparently even the imitation ones!

Date: 2024-11-23 05:05 pm (UTC)That is very true. Thank you for the reminder.
It's been a hard year for you. Not being up to facing them is understandable. <3

Date: 2024-11-23 04:45 pm (UTC)It was amazing! But what I love the most is the show always makes a big deal about Blackpool being the home of ballroom dancing. Then they go and perform for one show only in the Blackpool tower ballroom which looks beautiful but then have the contestants do themed dances that make you wonder if the powers that be have been on the good stuff *g*
Yes, back to it on Monday. No doubt I'll be wringing with sweat after a week off!

Date: 2024-11-23 04:28 pm (UTC)Useful about James bus pass, even if he doesn't NEED need it now.
The JL advert is... very adverty? I don't hate it, but I'm not excited about it (the Amazon one is the one that's getting my advert related ire right now). I've yet to have a really pleased reaction to a festive advert this year.

Date: 2024-11-23 04:42 pm (UTC)The bus pass is such a useful thing to have, and I imagine will still be used at points. Like that next physio appointment. I know the fare limit was only £2, but those pounds were adding up.
You know, it's weird. I haven't had any blown away reactions to the adverts either, and I'm usually very easy to please. I don't even know why they're not hitting so well either. I did like the McDonalds one in all it's bright and colourful glory, but even that lost impact after the first viewing.
