Happy New Year!
Jan. 1st, 2025 05:10 pmMay 2025 be good to us all.
Over the last few days I got mail, thank you,
venetia_sassy -- your card was brilliant and made me smile a lot,
sylvaine, a card complete with tea, thank you! and
pushkin666, such a lovely message. Thank you all ♥
I was in bed well before midnight last night, but did wake up just before 12 so got to see the fireworks both on the TV and out of the window. Then went back to sleep, which was just fine by me.
Today I've taken all the decorations down, and put them away so everything looks tidy again. Helped by the fact that yesterday, we did a serious declutter of the huge walk in hall cupboard, so all the decoration boxes could go in there instead of the bedrooms. I've now got a tip slot booked for Saturday for the bags of rubbish, and at the same time will drop off a load of donations to the tip shop.
Tomorrow is a busy day as James has got an appointment with his doctor at 9, then I have a lymphoedema appointment at 11 and then James has a physio appointment at the hospital at 2, all of them in different places. The first doctor appointment is to discuss a letter from the doctor stating James will need a longer than usual phased return. He had a long term sick telephone meeting with a more senior level manager on Monday and together they've decided he'll go back in the last week of this month, which gives him time to build up strength in his arm again. And before his pay will drop to half, which wouldn't be good in the slightest. But he seems happy at that timeline, just needs the first month or so to be slow.
Also on Monday we did a bit of Bodhisitting, and went to weight management class. You may remember Rosie asked if people wanted to attend as the other two locations wouldn't be running and people said yes. Well, when we first arrived I couldn't see anyone else and thought we'd have her sole attention, but in the end two other ladies arrived too and it was a good class. We had a new bit of kit to try, though I'm not sure what it's real name is. It's the pole that you can attach weights on either side, but ours didn't have those. It did weigh 9kg, though, which sounds nothing until you've done a few circuits including overhead presses.
Gladiators celeb special is on tonight, but sadly I'll have to wait to watch as it's something I watch with James and he's off out to watch Sunderland play with my brother. This match, man. It's been a hassle. They originally wanted to go on boxing day, then realised Sunderland were playing away. So booked for this match, and then realised it's a 8pm kickoff. Add in we're under a weather warning for wind and ice, I suspect they're both wishing they hadn't booked. Not that they've said, and I'm sure they'll have a good, if a bit cold, time.
As for me. I plan on a long bath and then some tv watching under my heated throw.

Date: 2025-01-01 07:39 pm (UTC)I'd normally just call it a bar or barbell. I've encountered training ones of 7kg and 15kg for for practising technique and form, and 15kg gets used for certain exercises to build up strength, and the competition/standard ones are 20kg and then get weights added.

Date: 2025-01-01 08:03 pm (UTC)Thank you for that. Like I said it was something totally new to the class, so I like knowing more facts.

Date: 2025-01-01 10:36 pm (UTC)YAY for decluttering!
I hope all goes well so James is able to return to work. Half-pay doesn't sound like any fun at all! A long bath and some TV watching sounds good!

Date: 2025-01-02 08:28 pm (UTC)I too went to bed well before midnight but while I did wake up just before 12 I didn't bother getting up. I just fell asleep again. So nice!
You always take down your decorations so early but then you put them up early too :-) Congratulations to the big declutter of your cupboard!
I hope all your appointments today went well! And I will keep my fingers crossed James' return to work will go very smoothly!
I don't know what one of those is called in English either. In Swedish it's called skivstång which translates to "disk bar/pole". Overhead pressing 9 kilos sounds hard!
I hope your evening was very enjoyable!

Date: 2025-01-03 01:33 pm (UTC)Your sleep sounds excellently timed, get to see the fireworks but still come out of it all well rested :D. Happy new year!
All the fingers crossed that James situation with returning from sick works out for the best.

Date: 2025-01-05 01:43 pm (UTC)I think a lot of the UK must be having issues with delivery, as you're the only UK person who has reported getting a card from me. At this rate they'll arrive in Feb.
And happy new year to you, too. My sleep was well timed, and I had a lovely view of the fireworks going off over the hills. And was also warm in bed, too. So win win!
James return to work seems to be going okay so far, in that his manager has been helpful. Hopefully, it stays like that.

Date: 2025-01-05 01:47 pm (UTC)Being able to sleep when you want is excellent. I felt no need to stay up until midnight, so seeing the fireworks was a bonus.
Yep, I always try to put the decorations up the 1st of Dec and then down the 1st of Jan. I'm still not as bad as Kayleigh, all her decorations were down on the 27th, and would have been down Boxing day if she wasn't at work.
But I was so pleased at the big cupboard declutter, especially as it meant all the decoration boxes can go in there.
The appointments did go well, thank you.
Disk bar/pole sounds like a good description. I'll have to ask Rosie what she calls it tomorrow, saying it prompted an online discussion *g*

Date: 2025-01-05 01:48 pm (UTC)All the appointments went well, and thankfully, no more until the end of the month.
I would have said RL wouldn't be busy due to that, but I'm unexpectedly Bodhisitting for two days this week.

Date: 2025-01-05 01:52 pm (UTC)I think we went out to see an organised fireworks display when Corey was young, but have always stayed home since then. I'd much rather be warm and at home than driving around in the cold and dark along with crowds of other people. So yeah, sleeping was a much better plan.
I love when I can have a serious declutter. Next job is to go through all the cards. I found a big bag of them and while I may keep a couple from people who aren't here now. The rest I'd never look at and are just taking up space.
No half pay would suck. Thankfully, he's pretty much ready to go back anyway. Just, not for his full hours at first.

I always try to get them down on the 1st. Though, I'm not as bad as Kayleigh, hers were down by the 27th.
