Mar. 23rd, 2025 04:36 pmIt was a Bodhisitting day today, so we ended up at Moobears, where the mascot of the day was Bluey, which caused great excitement as Bluey is one of Bodhi's favourites right now. Then she got upset when Bingo wasn't there, too. But we did get some good photos, including James dancing with Bodhi and Bluey, which was adorable. We also booked Bodes in for the Easter Monday Tinkerbell party, so that should be fun.
We've been taking advantage of our Unlimited Odeon card and saw Marching Powder last week, which was pretty much Danny Dyer playing Danny Dyer and seemed to have a ratio of one swear word for every four other words. Then yesterday we saw Snow White, which was okay. I enjoyed all the singing and dancing scenes, and it was very pretty to look at, but nothing I'd make an effort to watch again.
Thursday it was another lovely spring day so we took advantage of our yearly pass and headed to Beamish, the open air living museum. This time we walked to a part we normally miss out as it's up a big hill and can only be reached by foot, but we were both glad we'd made the effort as the hall and tavern were lovely to visit. Plus, there were two adorable ginger pigs to admire. By the end of that visit, we'd managed a three-mile walk, which was pleasing.
Nikita from Strictly is doing his solo tour at the moment and reviews have been great. Sadly, it's not coming to Sunderland, and the Newcastle showing is sold out. Which is typical, as the rave reviews make me want tickets so badly. Especially after seeing Nikita give Vito a lap dance as part of his latest show. I mean, come on, that outfit, that dance. I need to see! I even got close to buying tickets for the Edinburgh show, but sadly, that's next week when I'm cat and tortoise sitting, so an overnight stay somewhere isn't possible.
I may have gone to the giant charity shop again, and may have bought more clothes. Included in that was an amazing wool blend coat which is thick, has multiple pockets and is really good quality. Normally I would have passed it by as it was priced at £20, but there was a 25% discount on all the winter coats, so £15 for something that really is good quality was a steal. Though, when I got it home I did discover it's dry-clean only which is a pain.
I also got the greenhouse tidied when it was nice, so everything there is good to go once the weather gets more consistent. Because right now we're having some lovely days, but also frosty nights. But as soon as we're having more sun, the greenhouse is ready.

Date: 2025-03-23 11:59 pm (UTC)I'm a fan of animation. Like the stuff I grew up with and things Disney does. I've not liked any of the 'live-action' versions better than the original animation version. Different strokes, I suppose. I'm almost cringing that I heard they plan to release a live-action version of The Aristocats in 2026. I remember seeing it in the movie theater when I was a kid. I got a 45 record as a giveaway. Still have it!
Charity shops are wonderful. I love that they give new life to things, keeping them out of landfills, and making some money for charities, too! I'm glad you got a good buy! Hopefully, it won't need to be cleaned often. I've never used an at-home dry cleaning kit, but maybe something to look at. Although, I've heard they're more for refreshing stuff (odor), or removing wrinkles, but not good for actual stains.

Date: 2025-03-24 07:28 am (UTC)I hadn't heard that about the live action version of The Aristocats. It does make me wonder how they'll approach that, especially the cat characters.
The coat I got is perfectly clean and smells nice, just I tend to always wash my new finds, which is when I discovered the dry clean only label. Hopefully, you're right and it won't need to be cleaned often. Especially so as it's a cold weather only kind of coat.

Yes! It's a win win, really.

Date: 2025-03-24 12:45 pm (UTC)It was a movie I loved as a child (and still love). There are just certain voices that you can't really duplicate or improve on. I always loved Scatman Crothers, who had such a unique voice. And who can do Duchess better than Eva Gabor? Nancy Kulp was perfect to voice the horse. They had an amazing voice cast for the original The Aristocats. There's just no one out there who can improve on those. I don't know if I'd like it better if they did the live-action, but keep the original voices? But they never do that. It's like when they redid True Grit, no one can do Rooster Cogburn better than John Wayne. No one can do James Earl Jones better than him in anything. In The Lion King, no one is going to be better than Robert Guillaume for Rafiki.
I find the live-action versions a little interesting, but none of them come close to besting the animation IMHO. I guess it's a good thing that they aren't lost to time and forgotten.

Date: 2025-03-24 01:41 pm (UTC)I have no intention of seeing Snow White, but I do want to know how Gal Gadot was as the evil queen?
The open air museum sounds fun.
Boo that you can't get tickets to the show.
Yay for an awesome new-to-you heavy coat. With pockets!!

She was really good. Different to the other roles I've seen her in, and OTT in her acting that was perfect for that kind of story.

Date: 2025-03-27 07:25 pm (UTC)I'm always so envious when I hear about your visits to Beamish. It sounds like such a fantastic place. Also, go you for getting in all that walking!
That's so sad you won't get an opportunity to see him on tour!
You will soon have filled your house with all the clothes you buy at the charity shops ;-D That winter coat sounds like a real bargain! I suspect it's marked as dry-clean only because it might not like normal machine washing. Both because of the wool and because it's a heavy outer garment. You might try hand-washing it in the bath tub. Though how often do you really need to wash winter coats?
Congratulations to getting the greenhouse ready for the spring planting!

Date: 2025-04-01 01:37 pm (UTC)Beamish is fabulous. It's a shame Camp Sparkle never made it a bit closer to the NE as it would have been a great day out.

I really need to go through my clothes because there are all sorts of sizes in there. Many are much too big again now. Hell, I've still got the winter coat I had at my biggest and I know back in the day you saw the photo of both me and James inside it showing just how oversized it was. Well, I could do that again now and really need to let things go.
As for my 'new' winter coat. It's in perfect condition, no stains or smells. In fact, apart from no tags it looks like new. So while I normally do wash the clothes i get from the charity shop, I suspect this one doesn't really need washing at all. But if it ever does need cleaned, I'll try the bath solution.
