Sep. 21st, 2025 10:06 amIt was a day yesterday.
To start with there had been really heavy, non-stop rain from the early hours. It was also our first craft fair in our town, one we'd been trying to get a spot at for ages. Then Murphy started showing signs of having cystitis again, and not being able to pee, which of course would be an emergency if he had a blockage.
With it being Saturday, our own vet was closed, so we had to get him an appointment at the out of hours vet, which would mean an expensive bill. He's got excellent insurance, but what happens at the out of hours is we'd have to pay, and the insurance would eventually reimburse, as opposed to our vet where they bill the insurance company directly.
Thankfully, I'm FB friends with the head receptionist at our vets and she said she'd log into the system from home and send Murphy's records to the out of hours place, showing he has an ongoing case, and hopefully they'd not charge for anything but the admin fee for him going there.
As the appointment wasn't until the afternoon, we decided to go to the fair for the morning at least. Honestly, I could have done without it, but after asking for a spot for so long, it felt wrong to just not go, and we'd have to pay for the table regardless.
So, got soaked unloading at 8am, got everything set up lovely, and made all of £20 simply because it was raining so heavily no one was turning up. Then had to leave hours early so we could get Murphy to his appointment on time. In the long run, I'm glad we went despite the rain and hassle, because a fixed, monthly spot is great to have. It's just a shame the first one was a bit of a dud.
Oh, and while I was there I got a phone call from the pharmacist wanting to check I was okay on my new meds, which was good service but terrible timing. And Pauline wanting to check details for next Sat as apparently I'm in charge of making sure my brother actually remembers her 80th birthday party. Again, lovely to talk to her but timing not so great.
Anyway, packed everything away before midday, loaded the car, got soaked again. Got home and took a couple of things back to the house while I got Murphy crated, and off we went on a half hour journey to the out of hours place.
They were lovely there, very welcoming and kind and thank goodness, no blockage for Murphy, but the cystitis is back so he's on two kinds of pain meds/relaxer. With a warning if he gets worse to go straight back. But, fingers crossed, he seems better this morning, if a bit stoned off the meds. Plus, bonus, they only charged the admin fee, so thank you receptionist C!
Friday was nearly a day, too. We've said we'll take my MiL out at least once a fortnight, so picked her up on Friday and had a drive to Barnard Castle to get eggs from the honesty stall at the farm and get delicious bread from a bakery we like. All was going well until we stopped for a coffee, and my SiL phoned saying her electric had gone off so my MiL would have to stay at our house that night.
Obviously, she would have been welcome, but none of the furniture had been moved, she had none of her meds or oxygen generator, and it just seemed to make more sense to wait for a bit to see if things could be fixed before taking her to our house.
To cut a long and frustrating story short, they managed to get the meter sorted and the electricity was back on within an hour, but not before a lot of stress from everyone.
Thursday we'd gone to see Caught Stealing. It's a bit more violent than my usual tastes, but I can say, Austin Butler is a very beautiful man.
One good thing about yesterday, Strictly was back, let the Nikita admiring begin for another year.

Austin Butler is so pretty, it is ridiculous!

Date: 2025-09-21 02:11 pm (UTC)Murphy seems so much better today. And was celebrated when we saw he'd actually had a pee *g*
Yes he is! His gorgeous face was a nice distraction from the violence going on.

Date: 2025-09-21 01:12 pm (UTC)I'm glad Murphy is alright. (I wonder if this might have been coming on and causing his issues earlier? If only they could talk and tell us what's wrong.) I'm glad you were only charged the admin fee.
It's a bummer that it rained and the show was a dud, and everything happening all at once!
Your s-i-l sounds like someone who gets rattled easily. (Not that I'm ~not someone who gets rattled easily.) Seems like she could've waited a bit to see what was going to happen before jumping to the absolute worst case and making you guys also worry.
Dark comedy isn't my thing, but I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. (And I will agree that he's very good looking. *g*)

Date: 2025-09-21 02:09 pm (UTC)Murphy must have had something brewing, but typical it got much worse on a weekend when our vets is shut. I was so relieved at only being charged the admin fee. I mean, £50 is bad enough, the actual bill itself was so much more.
It was such a shame about the rain. I can see on a good day lots of customers would turn up, but yesterday the rain was keeping anyone but the most hardy inside.
Oh, my SiL is terrible at getting rattled and jumping to the worst case scenario. Then she sets my MiL off so everyone was getting flustered and making plans, and I was just thinking, give the electric company a chance to actually do something before panicking.
(And I will agree that he's very good looking. *g*)
Oh yes!

Date: 2025-09-21 02:53 pm (UTC)Awww poor Murphy! I. Glad it’s not a blockage and hope the meds help (good work receptionist!)
Oh that’s good that everything got sorted for her, you definitely made the right call waiting like that
Oh I’d seen posters for Caught Stealing but not much else (isn’t Matt Smith in it too?)
I missed most of strictly due to the train so I only saw the last 45 mins but I’m glad he’s back!

Date: 2025-09-21 03:33 pm (UTC)I need to give C the receptionist some chocolate or something for doing what she did on her day off. It saved us so much money. I mean, we would have got it back, but goodness knows when.
Waiting seemed sensible to me. Going from, the electric is off so mam will have to stay at yours just seemed like an overreaction at that point. If it had still been off hours later, sure, but at that point it was only mid afternoon and we were still out.
Yep, Matt Smith is in Caught Stealing. It's actually a really good film so I'm glad I made the effort to go watch it at one of the big Odeon's as it was only showing a couple of times a day.
The early Strictly shows feel like they last for days. Sadly you saw the part featuring that dick Thomas Skinner. I wish he'd bosh off already.

Date: 2025-09-21 05:02 pm (UTC)That was so good of her you went above and beyond to do that so I agree🖤
Oh yeah absolutely! Like it was useful as a heads up so you knew it was a possibility, but still best to wait to be sure
Oh nice! I’m glad it was good🖤
Yeah that’s pretty much what mum said too! Ugh yeah he’s so annoying already (and I’ve heard he’s a right jerky too😭) but at least I saw the winners from last year dance again

Date: 2025-09-25 08:23 pm (UTC)Sounds like you didn't get much respite from the stress on Friday, either, what a pain.
I am SO HAPPY about strictly - although I wish I knew what they were going to do about Dani leaving, it'll leave it very lopsided men/women, and, well. :(

Date: 2025-09-26 03:02 pm (UTC)Friday was lovely, until it wasn't. But, it worked out in the end.
I was starting to think Nikita wouldn't have a partner at all, so was glad when they announced the replacement, especially as it does bring the balance back a little. I do feel for Dani, though. A break is a horrible thing to happen.
I'm at Pauline's 80th birthday party tomorrow so will miss watching the first show live. Though, it lasts so long in the early weeks it may still be going when I get back.
