I saw No Strings Attached advertised earlier. It's a show where puppets act out fanfics based on celebs, and those celebs voice their own dialogue. Not going to lie, I about turned myself inside out with embarrassment thinking about it. Just, no.

Pauline phoned yesterday asking about our Christmas dinner. She wants to get it booked, and apparently she's going to be busy in December, so suggested booking for a Saturday in November, including this Saturday coming. Now, while the festive menu would be started then I think the 8th is far too soon for our Christmas meet up, so I'm going to push for the last Sat in November instead. She also still wants to go to the restaurant that gave her and James food poisoning, as she said, it's usually lovely there, and it was only a minor poisoning. Well, that's okay then…

Talking about Christmas, it seems to be everywhere now, and John Lewis dropped their Christmas ad today. Why so early, I don't know, so now I'm expecting a deluge of Christmas ads soon. It's an interesting ad, I get what they were going for, and the sentiment does land, just there was a section in the middle that led me to believe it was about to get really bleak. Then things change, and wham, right in the feels. I suspect many dad's with older sons will relate.

Murphy's results,

The vet phoned last night after they tested his urine sample. Good things, no infection and no presence of the stuff that clumps together to form stones. So, the bladder wash out and special food is working. He does have blood in his urine but she thinks that's because he's still a bit raw and inflamed inside. Which he proved by pee'ing on a towel that had been left on the floor and in Kevin's heated bed.

She prescribed more ppainkillers and sent more special sand so he can have his urine tested again next week, by which point, hopefully, things will feel a bit better for him.

Of all the places, it had to be Kevin's bed.

It must be so sore for Murphy, and I'm looking forward to when he doesn't run away each time I approach because he thinks he's going to get yet more medicine.

Our elder cat (RIP) was all about making statements. We used to narrate for her: "I'm in pain so I'm going to pee on something you love!" Poor kitties, they speak however they can.

That No Stings Attached thing sounds funny... like, "Get drunk with a bunch of similarly minded fanfic friends and enjoy" kind of fun. Which was fun when I was in my 20s and maybe 30s, but not something I've done for over 20 years. I suppose it's easiest if they find celebrities willing to do it first, then let them choose a fanfic. Hopefully, they're asking the authors permission first, but who knows. I also hope they're doing it for fun and not charging because no one is supposed to make $$$ from fanfic or related stuff.

I can understand your hesitancy of both doing it so early and also going to a place where people have experienced issues before. I'd make sure not to order whatever it was that made them sick last time. Hopefully, whatever issue has been resolved, but if not, I wouldn't want to take chances.

Oh, poor Murphy! Well, at least the main issue has cleared. Hopefully, the pills will do their thing and the pain will subside soon. I always keep apple cider vinegar around for cat pee mistakes. I usually add a bit when I wash the cat bed covers anyway. But yeah, (((HUGS))) for Murphy and hopes he'll be pain-free very soon.

The No Strings Attached show does make me think. I mean, it's sort of similar to what we used to do at Camp Sparkle with the lava lamp story. And yeah, it is funny in the right sort of setting, but I think that setting and the people doing the reading are hugely important. There's a difference between the people who get fandom and fic, and those reading it just to mock. And I really hope the show isn't the second.

I also hope they're asking permission, too. I know one of my bandom friends had one of her fics -- from a different previous fandom -- read out on a huge chat show here, and I'm sure she wasn't asked. Which feels all kinds of wrong.

Well, the dinner has been booked at the food poisoning place, but it's a different festive menu. Plus, Pauline has been there often before without issues so I'm hoping it just was a one-off.

Murphy is still on his painkillers but hasn't pee'd anywhere he shouldn't for days now and seems much more himself. Even play chasing Kevin earlier. So I hope he's feeling much better.

There would definitely be a HUGE difference if it were done in fun (with permission), or if it's going to be done mockingly (without permission).

Shall in be known forevermore as "The Food Poisoning Place?" I worked in restaurants for over 20 years, and it can be a completely different experience depending on WHO is working and when. It's largely a matter about how they store, handle, and rotate food products. There were some people who did it wrong out of laziness and lack of care, and others who just didn't remember how to handle food properly.

Playing with Kevin is a good sign that he's feeling better. That's good to hear!

So early for a Christmas dinner! But in a surprise move Pauline phoned me yesterday saying the place doesn't even do the festive menu until December, and had I not noticed that on the form to pick the food? I just kept quiet and didn't mention it wasn't me who wanted to go in November *g*

Well, thankfully, you can unzip the heated bed and take out the electrical heating pad part and wash the rest. Not going to lie, Kevin was not amused I did so, and the bed was out of action for a while.

Glad you got where I was coming from with the bleakness. I really thought they were going to say the son had died or something.

That show sounds so cringe. Because I'm almost certain they will not be picking fanfics that are actually good. Glad all my stuff is archive logged at the moment. Maybe time to delete LJ...

That No Strings Attached sounds quite silly to me. I can't imagine there would be many people interested in watching it either. Surely making fun of fanfic can't be of interest to more than a tiny minority?

Last Saturday in November sounds like a good date but I hope you manage to get her to change her mind about venue!
