May. 19th, 2026 04:51 pmMy house is opposite a Lidl, and some idiots in cars decided 5 in the morning was the perfect time to do doughnuts and rev their engines in the car park. Of course, once I was awake it seemed pointless trying to get back to sleep being as the alarm was due to go off in 30 mins.
It was maker's market craft fair day on Saturday, and wow, was it a bust. Like, we sold two very small things to other stallholders kind of bust. There just weren't any customers and I have no idea why. It was a nice sunny day, no rain, just no people coming by at all.
James had managed to double book himself for another fair for the next maker's market, and while I'll miss seeing our crafter friends, it may be a good thing to go elsewhere for the next time. Thank goodness he's still selling via TikTok and the craft shop because the fairs have been poor this year.
That was Sat, then on Sunday it was Bodhisitting all morning. That meant our usual morning grocery shopping trip was pushed to mid-afternoon, which actually worked out nicely in terms of finding the bargains. With the 10p items out at Aldi again, while Company was giving stuff away, as well as selling packs of four pork loin hot honey glazed chops for 20p a packet. So, there may be a few of those in the freezer right now.
Yesterday was class, nothing unusual about that. My friend was there again, and one of the old timers was back from his extended holiday to Africa. He's been there for a few months now, and has come back for the summer and it was lovely to have him back. Almost like old times before we lost quite a few regulars when Rosie was on the extended sick.
After getting home I finished re-potting the tomato plants with some new compost, when Pauline phoned. Her first words were, 'are you and James feeling okay? and I thought, great, she'd had food poisoning again after we'd been out to eat on Thursday, but nope, she's got a nasty case of Covid, saying she'd felt so ill she was considering phoning an ambulance over the weekend. It was only yesterday, after saying she could smell something horrible, that Pauline's daughter said she needed a test as there was nothing smelling, and it was a strong positive.
Thankfully, while still feeling rough she said she's not feeling as bad as the weekend, so hopefully, may be over the worst.

Date: 2026-05-19 10:26 pm (UTC)That stinks that there weren't any customers for the craft fair. Hopefully, it will be better next time.
Poor Pauline! I hope she feels better soon!

Date: 2026-05-22 04:30 pm (UTC)I do hope the next fair is better. I know they're a lot of work to set up and break down, but it's nice to talk to the customers. If any ever come inside.
I've just been talking to Pauline, she said today is the first day she's starting to feel better, so that's good.

Date: 2026-05-22 04:25 pm (UTC)I don't know what went on at the last fair. Normally we have people to talk to at least, even if they don't buy. But last time, nothing.

Date: 2026-05-22 03:49 pm (UTC)Pauline was coughing so much when we went out to eat I'm amazed everyone wasn't infected. But she's on the mend.

Date: 2026-05-22 07:39 pm (UTC)Maybe it was because of the nice, sunny weather there wasn't any customers? At least here in southern Sweden this time of the year everyone seems busy buying plants and new outdoor furniture so they can make their gardens look nice for summer.
Silly James, double booking like that!
Congratulations to the food bargains!
Fun to hear there's been more old-timers returning to class.
Poor Pauline!! Will keep everything crossed she will soon be completely well.

Date: 2026-06-02 04:25 pm (UTC)I agree!
You could be right about the weather keeping customers away, I know I like to be outside when it's lovely and sunny. Oh well, there's always the next one.
Pauline is much better now, but was poorly with it for a while. She was blaming getting the vaccine the week before, but I suspect that helped her not be even worse.
