Does anyone have any recs for website hosts? My sites are at Populli at the moment and I'm going to keep the MX archive there but Populli's not rps friendly so I want to go somewhere else for my personal site.

I don't mind paying within reason and would like somewhere I can upload media files, which is something else I can't do right now.

So, anyone know anywhere?

[livejournal.com profile] minotaurs runs Slashdom (http://www.slashdom.com), which is where I've got my slashy sites hosted. I also host several professional sites I'm the webmaster of with his professional hosting service, and I can highly recommend him. Very good about dealing with my occasional blonde moments and in responding to tech support queries, installing perl modules, etc.

Thanks for the rec, I'll certainly check him out.

I have to admit thought that I've just mastered how to use a FTP and basic html so I don't think I'm up to anything more complex yet.

I haven't got a domain, just a site.

I'm just sick of having my stuff split over two sites. All my media stuff is at populli and I'm using Geocities for the rps :(

Thanks for the rec though, I'm going to have a look now.

I've got two domans if your looking for a hostess for your fic hon. can't help with media hosting tho, I spent half an hour last night looking for a good file hoster 'cause of the traffic it creates on my domains and in the end, I ended up uploading it to my yahoo folder lol Boomspeed is supposed to be pretty good, Charlie & reggie_mbq use it, but I don't know what the URL is, you could google it :o)

I'd love you as a hostess for my fic, thank you!

You'll have to give me details, like price etc.

I'm just tired of having my stuff split over two sites. My media stuff is at Populli and the rps stuff at Geocities, and I really want it on one central site.

LOL, I ended up shoving JC's clips on my Yahoo folder too. I did google boomspeed and that'll do fine for what I want.

lol I'll love to have you as a hostee hon *g*

So far, hosting on my domains is free, I pay very little a year, but there's a few of us on there now so we'll see how the bandwidth goes lol But yeah, so far, free ;o) mail me your details, what you want your extension to be, as in whitelies.net/(yournamehere) lol That name will be the same as your username for the FTP, I'll need a password for that as well. Other than that, I can't think of anything else lol

Glad I can be of help hon :o) I might google boomspeed myself lol

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

*glomps Terri*

Yes, you did put the JC clips there, and stoopid QuikTime actually played them! Huzzah!!

I *loved* them!!

It was a little weird hearing JC as his own backup singer, but I suppose I should be used to it with all the Alanis I listen to... ..just not used to hearing it from JC, lol.

And maybe i'm a lil pouty he seems to be singing a lot of songs about girls, but we all know it's a cover. *winks behind slash-colored shades* And what was the line? "..from the shower to the kitchen counter..." Heh. 'C's still a kinky bastard, hafta love it.

And oh, Oh!! The other song, yeah it was about a girl, but didn't he seem to get totally into "her" after specifically stating "she" was 5'9"? Hey, Chris is 5'9", y'know... *grins maniacally, dances the dance of OTP love*

Okay, I'm done now, for a minute or three, lol...

YAY! I'm so glad you could get them! I've interviews and vid files he's done promoting the songs but they're too big to upload and your e-mail can't take them :(

I wish I knew why we couldn't use AOL to pass files. Do you have Yahoo messenger? Maybe that would work.

Oh, JC is totally a kinky bitch! He so does Chris on the kitchen counter! And yes, your reasoning about the height is good ;)

Last thing, of course it's a cover! JC like girls? Not in this life! ;)

I'd second the rec for slashcity. They are (obviously) slash friendly, and rps friendly, and the service is excellent. Also the price -- $24 a year for a site which is *plenty* big enough for a fic site, plus an e-mail address and one mailing list, and a bunch of other stuff I don't use.

Media files I guesss depends on how much bandwidth you need. However, slashcity lets you buy extra bandwidth without upgrading the rest of the package, so they might be a good option for that too.

$24 for a year is the kind of price I like.

Thanks for the rec, I have to decide between that and just being hosted now.

If you haven't chosen one yet, and no one's mentioned it, you might check out http://www.slashdom.com/

That's who my host is and I really enjoy them.

I think I'm just going to be hosted by someone else for now. But thanks for the link, I've saved it in case I ever decide to move again.

They're top notch. I've only had 1 tiny bit (like, an hour) of downtime (and CKR.net is on their servers).
