Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] mickeym You're all kinds of awesome and deserve all the love in the world ♥

And thank you to [personal profile] sperrywink for the card. You always know the right things to say ♥

It was Corey's first college interview on Wednesday night, and somehow I'd managed to get it fixed in my head it was Thursday night, which is why when he came home from school on Wed I was busy helping James completely clean the fish tank, meaning we were both wet and smelling of fish water.

A quick clean up later and we went to the college, and got a tour of the new labs. I loved the teacher who conducted the interview, she was so upbeat and completely won me over when she said their science department was like the Big Bang Theory. Which means I had to be Penny as many times I had no idea what she was talking about science wise. Anyway, it went well and depending on his GCSE results Corey has a provisional place to study two sciences, maths and computing at A level. He's still got another interview to go in Jan, this one at Durham, his first choice college, but he'd be happy to go to the one in Sunderland too, so a good result there.

The reason we were cleaning out the tank was our fish died. We only had two, a huge cat fish and a plec we'd had for 9 years. They came down with some disease and no matter what treatment we gave nothing worked. I had to admit to shedding some tears, especially over Simon. We'd had him since he was an inch long and he'd always been in the tank. Hell, his name shows how old he was as he was named when I was a baby fan back in The Sentinel fandom. Of course other things contributed too, like having to have Tex put down a few months back and now we'd lost the fish too. But we have new fish now, including Simon junior. So while he may be gone, he won't be forgotten.

Yesterday we took nanna to the Metro Center to see the Christmas lights. She had a good time, including dancing along to an interactive Happy Feet thing which beamed her image onto a wall. She bought us dinner -- where one of the waiting staff managed to drop a cappachino right at my feet, the cup breaking and foam splashing everywhere -- and we checked out many shops. With the running theme of nanna being attracted to the most expensive and then being scandalised by the prices.

She did well walking for a long time, but trudging around the shops is hard when you're in your 90s, so by early afternoon she was glad to be going home.

Today we met the in laws first thing, did some Christmas shopping and grocery shopping, came home and waited for Corey's new mattress to be delivered. I helped him get that upstairs and onto the base of his bed, got James off to work for the first of his night shifts, and now I intend to write, because I failed so badly at mini nano the last two days, managing a sad 150 words each day. I really need to sit and catch up.

I also need to edit the damn thing like crazy because right now it feels like the most stilted and ridiculous thing I've ever written.

And now it's the day after I intended to post this. I fail so badly at this online lark lately. But it does mean I can say how relieved I am that James isn't working on Christmas day, something we were expecting. Well, not totally. He got his shifts last night and is working 7am to 7pm Christmas eve, then doesn't go back until 7pm Christmas day, meaning he gets to open gifts in the morning with us and also have Christmas dinner. Plus, he's off on Boxing day, which is awesome. It does mean our tradition of delivering gifts to family while listening to Santa calls kids on the local radio show won't happen, but we'll sort something else out and I can always listen at home.
