...which is anyone but me.

I'm trying to play Sims and it keeps shutting down. Now I suspected it may be the memory so checked and I have 14.4 gb left of a 110 gb hard drive. Should I be worrying about that and moving stuff to discs or am I okay?

ETA: Mini drama over. Sims playing is underway again. Thanks to everyone that helped :)

You shouldn't have to worry. Is your hd partitioned (into C:/, D:/, etc.)? If so, is Sims running from the master drive or the slave? (I don't knwo much about computers at all, but if you run a humongous program from the same drive that has Windows on it (ie, C:/) I think that memory can suffer. How much RAM do you have installed, and how many programs are you running simultaneously?

I know, not much help, just more questions....

The hd is partitioned but Sims does run from the C drive. I've got 512 mb of Ram and was using Firefox plus the usual background programmes like Norton.

You were some help, you made me think about where Sims is installed and I may change that if I can, but in the end it was a corrupt download that was the problem.

Thank you!

Sims runs best when nothing else is running in the background -- anti-virus, firewall, etc. If you've downloaded any extra objects to decorate your house with, I would also start removing them one by one to see if that solves the problem. *smooch*

It looks like we downloaded a bad file. Once that was gone it started to work again.

Thanks, honey. You're a life saver.

Man, do I know my Sims or what? *grin*

(It actually frightens me. Now if I could get The Sims 2 to run smoothly on my computer, I'd be a happy camper. I don't think my video card has enough memory.)

You do, and thank goodness for that!

I'm desperate for Sims2 but we've promised it to Corey for Christmas so can't get it until then :(

LOL... you've promised it to Corey for Christmas, so *you* can't play it 'til then. *grin*

It's lots of fun, the Sims have goals and aspirations they have to meet, so there's always something to do. And if your female Sim gets pregnant, you actually see her belly grow and Daddy Sim can rub and talk to the belly. It's so cool!

Well, maybe you're right ;)

It sounds wonderful and I really can't wait to play. I suspect Corey will be put to bed early and I'll be setting up my new houses of love *g*

babes, you have more *spare* than my little silver lady has at all by some huge margin. Unless you mistyped g for m, I'm going to quietly sulk ...

Nope. It is GB, that's why I chose this computer knowing how much memory I tend to use *g*

We're good though, it looks like we downloaded a bad file so Sims playing has commenced.
