I'm bitter and twisted. I just know it. I've just read a story that made me want to curl up and forget about TS fandom. Full of cliches and fanon, and normally I don't mind fanon but when it comes at you in every sentence it's too much.
This week has been a bad week with TS stories, what with the whole Jim having sex with a poodle thing. That still makes me cringe thinking about it.
I just have to say, Jim may be tall and buff, but he's *not* a giant! And this thing about having a 'new lover' words fail me. Now I'm going before I blow a gasket.

Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 04:30 am (UTC)TS has a *lot* of badfic, but also thousands of excellent fic, it just seems that I've read a lot of the bad stuff lately.
The poodle thing was terrible. Mousey is right, it was warned really well, so I've no problem with that. It just didn't do anything for me. Jim having sex with a poodle, penetrative sex too...ick.
Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 04:57 am (UTC)WHAT??????
Oh my gawd, please say you're kidding!
That's...that's....WRONG!
I've been totally squicked out!
Maybe I'm got out of the Sentinel at the right time!
*shuddering*
Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 05:57 am (UTC)There's been a series of stories posted at SXF lately, and the author seems to be going as squicky as possible. Don't know how you spoil for squick factor if you don't want to see but I'll try..

Apparently Jim could be affected by pheromones as the poodle was in heat. The poodle also felt it and came to the loft where Jim had sex with it...oh and little detail, the dog clamped on like female dogs do. So you had this scene of Jim with a dog attached to him for an hour hoping Blair wouldn't come home.
I can't believe that no ones made a fuss about it. The stories that I've seen be mauled at Prospect L and this doesn't get a mention.
I don't know about getting out of TS at the right time. There's still good stuff coming through, just not enough of it.
Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 06:35 am (UTC)I'm just...speechless.
Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 08:22 am (UTC)No, I can definitely say it's the wrong time! How can I be so certain, you ask? Because I just started reading TS fic a few months ago, and I'm in the process of devouring A Golden Opportunity. And I need more to read ;P

Date: 2003-06-18 08:48 am (UTC)Ahhh, but you see, as a SV nut, this is not a bad thing for me -- I think she should write *both*. And, of course, the world revolves around me, right? *chuckle*
Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 09:10 am (UTC)Aren't you a sweetie!
Actually, if you put Dolimir into the 852 Prospect archive, you'll come up with about 65 or so of my stories. My personal favorite (of mine) "Something Evil This Way Comes."
out of fandom
Date: 2003-07-03 06:30 am (UTC)Just kidding about the last thing, don't worry. :-)
Regarding bad stories: I presume there are the bad ones in every fandom and you just can't stay secure of that. *g* As long as other authors put out stories I like, my TS-world is okay. For exampel I was really pleasingly surprised to see "the wrong end of the story" by Julad and Calico and I love to see trickling good stories in my inbox, like yours or Terri's. :-)

Re: Sorry :(
Date: 2003-06-18 11:12 pm (UTC)In the HP fandom we have bad tastes fics as well - including a pairing with a fish. So there, see, I'm used to it lol

And we're still traumatized by that one, believe me! But she did warn people, so... and we also know that some readers liked her stories, so she wrote it for them too. As long as we're not forced to read things we don't want to, we'll survive! *g*
Hi btw... how's your day? *g*

Hey, I'm chatting with an efriend right now, and she just told me something funny. Hear MS talk about Daniel : "He's the moral voice, kind of the moral conscience of the team... basically he's a whiney little bitch"
Man 'whiney little bitch', this is just perfect! I'll have to remember that one! lol
Fanon and Cliché Pit
Date: 2003-06-18 03:45 am (UTC)Ouch! You found one of *those*, right? One of those fics which seem to be a How to Write a Cliched Story manual lol That's bad indeed.
This week has been a bad week with TS stories, what with the whole Jim having sex with a poodle thing
Oh please, sis, I just want to forget I ever saw that story!! Even though I didn't read that writer's whole series --and in case there're some fans of CD here, I'm not saying her series was bad, I'm just saying *I* didn't like it, which is not the same thing at all. Thanks for your attention *g*-- I'm still traumatized by the whole idea! I think that story in particular is a perfect example of why we need warnings on our stories. She did good actually for she warned several times. There's nothing to say about that.
I guess as far as kinks go, Jim screwing a poodle definitely doesn't do it for me! lol But I think we have to admire her for posting that kind of story. Some writers aren't afraid of posting risky stories, that's for sure! And she did post a nice filk with a slutty Blair afterward *eg*
Now you got me curious though, what is the TS fic you were talking about? I'd like to read about Fanon turned into a way of life! lol Send me or give me the URL, sis? *g*
Oh and don't give up on the fandom, sweetie! Just go and read something good like, I don't know-- "No Islands Anymore", for instance, or "Panther's Tales". And no, I never need to think long to find a good TS story lol Some fics just seem to be a part of my mind, I can't forget them at all lol I know you'll feel better after that! *g*
Re: Fanon and Cliché Pit
Date: 2003-06-18 04:37 am (UTC)I can't give you the URL sorry :( It was on a TS beta list, so it's not in the public eye yet. I'll tell you who wrote it off the board so you can watch out for it coming over SXF.
I'm not giving up on the fandom at all, I just like complaining 'cos I'm a whiney bitch at times. I know that for every bad story there's 10 others that are good. Like those examples you said, perfect.
Re: Fanon and Cliché Pit
Date: 2003-06-18 04:50 am (UTC)Okay. I will have a 'nice clichéd story' to look for, then lol
I know that for every bad story there's 10 others that are good. Like those examples you said, perfect.
Amen to that! *g*

Date: 2003-06-18 08:19 am (UTC)Sorry, should probably warn you -- my sense of humor is warped. Still, as someone who's just recently begun reading Sentinel fic, I have to say that the good has far outweighed the bad over the past 6 months, at least to me. But, then, we've already established I'm a loon! lol
LOL
Date: 2003-06-18 08:38 am (UTC)Snicker. I like that! Makes me lol when thinking about poodle sex now, which is a good thing.
No need to warn for warped humour, I like it *g*
You're also right, the good far outweighs the bad in sen fic. It's just that particular story stuck in my mind, I wonder why ;)
