Feb. 27th, 2006 05:12 pmI've been offline for what seems like years, seems that happens when you don't pay three months worth of your internet bill. Ah well, I'm back now and it's not like I wasn't busy anyway. I've been reading in any spare moment since my birthday and I'm so thankful that
ninjetti75 sent those first two Anita Blake books because I have so much love for the series. He knows my tastes well that's for sure. I'm up to Obsidian Butterfly and though I'm enjoying it too, I miss the weres and vampires from before. But if you know anything about the next books don't tell me. I'm reading these totally unspoiled and want to keep it that way.
and had stuck. No weight lost or put on. Which I sort of expected. With having the two birthdays so close I'd eaten a lot that I shouldn't have and it's been so cold that walking's been the last thing I wanted to do. Maureen ( the dietician) was understanding but still, it's disappointing. We had a chat and she was saying that me being able to tell her I'd overeaten was a good thing because it meant I'd recognised that and made sure to stick to the plan the rest of the time, when before I would have kept going and ended up gaining badly. Which in a way she's right, but at the same time, I've always known when I'm overeating, it's just I was unable/unwilling to stop that. But it's baby steps, I have to remember that, and I've a month to make sure next time I see her those scales go down.
and man. I don't think I have the words to describe how weird it was. To start it was raining, blustery wintery showers that didn't stop all day. Corey had brought a leaflet home from school about the farm and it looked good, so we went anyway, because we needed fresh air and there'd be barns right? Yeah, right.
We arrived and parked up in this tiny area. A chicken was rooting around and we paid in this small hut. The woman asked if we'd been before, told us how to get around and off we went. To set the scene there were blown plastic animals everywhere, and not just farm animals which you'd expect. No, you'd look around and there'd be alligators rearing from the grass, weird looking snakes posed to strike, and it wasn't as if they were realistic, they were the nastiest cheapest looking plastic animals ever. It's like a whirlwind had swooped down on a blown plastic animal factory, picked them up and thrown them at this farm. Half of them weren't even upright and one unfortunate pig had been smashed in half, it's body left like a grisly warning outside the barn.
We scuttled to the first barn, walked past a giant blown plastic horse, then up to the giant plastic cow, and saw our first real animal. A pig with 4 piglets nestled at her side. They were so cute, with long eyelashes and man, justsocute! Watching those made me forget that it was sub zero in that barn and in an attempt to create atmosphere classical music was blasting from a radio hanging in the corner. The next pen contained two porcupines, which made me laugh so much.It had to be one of the highlights of the trip, explaining in this freezing barn how
nopseud had just written a story where Joey went to a furry con in a porcupine costume. Strangely James didn't seem to get the joke *g* That barn also contained a calf, a few goats and two llamas that had curly hair of the era Justin variety, so cool.
We fled to the next barn which had the sign Rabbit monkeys nailed next to the door. This wasn't a new species but one tiny monkey in a cage, and a long line of rabbit hutches, three deep lining the barn. They didn't look badly treated or anything, and had clean hutches and food/water, but there were so many of them and I just didn't like it in there. The end of the barn was a storage area filled with Christmas decorations, a light up Santa leaning against old cages and then this tiny monkey. He was in a roomy cage and clung to the bars, looking out at us. At which point he moved next to James, opened his little monkey legs and tried to piss on him *g*
Another run to the last barn, passing a giant plastic horse lying on it's side, and we could see the raccoons, owls and birds. All of which would have been more interesting if I hadn't been freezing at the time. So, we move on, outside, where it's still sleeting. Now, I have to say in summer this place would probably be great. They had a big play area, lots of room to run off steam etc, but it wasn't summer. It was cold, it was muddy, it was wet. The place was sad and soggy and just plain miserable. There was a van selling food so James and Corey had a burger and I had hot chocolate and waited, and waited, while the woman behind the counter took forever to deal with three people. One cool thing, they had an old tram to eat in, which was shelter at least. So I sat in that, drinking hot chocolate and looking out at the plastic animals as Corey played in the drivers seat.
We made an attempt to see the outdoor animals then, but the heavens opened as we were looking at the emus, so we shoved all the feed we'd bought down the tube and headed for the car. There were still camels and things to see, but to be honest even if Chris and JC were getting it on down in that bottom field I'd have stayed away.

Okay, so I lied. But I'd tell them to get their asses into a barn where it was dry at least.
So yes, that was that day. I have pictures if I ever remember to take the camera from the car.
Sunday we dropped Kay off at Durham station because she was going to see Lia. So we stayed in Durham for a while and walked to the cathedral. It's so beautiful there but we couldn't see everything because of the services that were going on. But still, we saw a lot of old beautiful things and enjoyed walking where we could. We also passed two very pretty grown up versions of choir boys ( whatever they're called) and proved my mind has no shame at all. I also briefly lost my engagement ring at the weekend, thankfully it had slipped off my finger in the house so I found it again. It's not expensive or anything but I'd be devastated if I lost it. I asked how much it would be to get it resized and it's not much but it takes three weeks, and in that time my fingers could have shrunk again. Ha, in my dreams. I think I may have to keep it on my necklace for now, which isn't ideal but at least it won't get lost.
In other horrifying news the in laws are taking Corey to Butlins in the summer holidays, which isn't horrifying in itself, but they want James and I to come too. I like Butlins, we've holidayed there many times, but the MiL, SiL, niece, nephew, BiL, FiL, BiLs mam James and I on one caravan, hell no! I don't care how big it is that's not happening. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. if we go we'll be getting a chalet on our own.
It seems I missed the sign ups for the remix challenge when I was offline, which is good because I was starting to waver a little about joining. But it means I can get on with my own stuff now. I was poking at Boxes2 and was horrified to see I was missing 1000 words from the end. Thankfully I found Word had auto backed up the file with another name, which was good. I always hate recreating words that have been lost. It was good writing in that universe again, it's comfortable and I really like the characters how I've written them. I still get a little flaily when I think of the plot because I'm not used to writing long, and I need to get so much in there. Because Justin is pretty much losing the plot and could easily bring Lance down with him. Add in Joey who's not to steady either just now and the looming problem on JC and Chris' horizon and I can't help a flail. See, this is why I tend to stick to the 6000 to 9000 word mark. It's easier.
I think that's all, unless you want to be subjected to my moaning about how my tumble drier packed up and I have clothes on every radiator and a clothes horse in the middle of the room, which I wouldn't mind but I hate ironing air dried clothes, they're so wrinkly. But I have stories tabbed, mails to write and project runway to watch, which sounds like a good way to spend the evening. I have to get Corey to cubs first though, and it's bucketing it down, we're not dry from coming home from school yet and have to go out again. It's times like this I wish I could drive.

Date: 2006-02-27 05:34 pm (UTC)Not gaining is a good thing, but I'm still disappointed in myself because I should be dropping weight. Talking to Maurine like that was totally embarrassing and made me want to squirm, but I know it's a good thing to do. I just don't like to you know?
The animal place was really creepy. I have no doubts it could be nice, but this weekend I just wanted to leave. Plus some of the animals made me sad, especially the birds.
Boxes is more omg what was I thinking just now. But I've added words and that's the main thing *g*

Hee! I'm glad I can give even a trip to a children's farm that extra spice of kink :-)

I guess I've learned being dishonest with myself is a bad thing. Can't say I like doing it all the time, but it's something I have to do if I ever want to be healthy again.

Date: 2006-02-28 01:19 pm (UTC)And don't worry too much about the scale. I've been on a diet for a year now, and sometimes, you hit times when you're not losing weight, but you're losing sizes, so you'll see next time, that neddle will go down :)

Date: 2006-03-09 04:09 pm (UTC)I've been dieting for a while now, and have lost a load of weight. 7 1/2 stone at the moment but have loads more to go. But this is the first sticky point I've had, so encouragement is much needed :)

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll take any I can get :)
Also, go you for your loss!

Date: 2006-02-28 04:56 pm (UTC)It sucks about the not-losing-weight but as you said, baby steps, and you didn't gain any weight after all so I still think your doing good!
We also passed two very pretty grown up versions of choir boys ( whatever they're called) and proved my mind has no shame at all.

But no, I know how it is when you're busy. I really need to set my internet up on direct debit too. I mean, three months was a bit much to pay all at once.
Your icon rocks! It's so cool!
