Mar. 21st, 2006 11:51 amOne day I'll manage a birthday shout out on time. Yesterday was the birthday of the lovely
starwatcher307. Now, a lot of you won't know Starwatcher as she plays in The Sentinel fandom, but she was my first beta reader ever. You people that have seen my sucky first drafts have seen nothing compared to what she had to wade through. I'd just started to write, think huge info dumps, very few paragraphs, no exposition. It was bad, so much worse than what I do now. But Starwatcher worked with me until I was passable at least. She's one heck of a beta and one heck of lady. So, happy birthday! Sorry it's late.
Keira was visited in hospital last night. She's covered in a horrible rash that looks like blood has burst under her skin. She's being treated as if she has the most serious kind of meningitis but they won't really know until they get the blood tests back later today. Poor thing, she looks so tiny in the hospital bed.
Changing the subject completely. Back in the day I collected Hardy Boys books. I have all the mysteries but one and most of the case files. Anyway, sometimes I read Hardy Boys fanfic. I know, I know. Shut up. No slash though, well, I've found two but they weren't that good. It seems the cest hasn't hit the HB fandom. Yesterday I went to the site and read the crackiest crack fic ever! I was so delighted!
Get this. Joe Hardy's male teacher falls in love with him. He seduces Joe by hypnotising him. Joe goes a little nuts and falls out with his friends and family. Then the teacher abducts and rapes him. Joe is found, blood poring from his body, there was a river of blood trailing from the stretcher as they were moving it even. But that wasn't the best. Before the rape, the daughter of the rapist had fallen for Frank, Joe's brother. She was supposed to poison Frank but the food was swapped and Joe ate arsenic instead. During the trial it's revealed that not only is Joe HIV positive due to the rape, he also has terminal stomach cancer due to the poison. We'll bypass many chapters of Joe writhing in pain as the cancer eats him alive, his stomach was pretty much removed. He needed chemo. He contracted tb. All the while sobbing and declaring love to his brother, and it wasn't even in that way. Spoilsport. Also, random song lyrics added to the story, which I especially enjoyed when Joe came home to his birthday party. Was happy, but knew he was going to die that very night. Because he had tb, HIV and cancer you know! Except, before dying his last, he managed to phone the local radio station to dedicate a song to his girlfriend saying how much he loved her.
Almost 40 chapters later and you know what happened? Suddenly we're in an avalanche, Frank wakes up, and it's all been a dream. That's just not right! I mean, why didn't he have a shower, say he'd had a dream and be done with it? Avalanche. Feh!
Moving on. I've just had the most gorgeous arrangement of flowers delivered. 14 years ago today I went to a nightclub with my friends. I met James. I was 18, he was 17. I was in the second year of college. He the last year of secondary school. He bought me a pink kangaroo which at that time was my drink of choice. ( larger, cider, advoka and blackcurrant mixed in a pint glass. I know, I was so classy ) We danced to the Music Man song, and 14 years later I still haven't got rid of him *g*

Gah, don't mind me. I've completely lost track of whenever it was I last slept. I've been randomly sleeping, waking, and writing for the past three days, finally got S!s Pt17 up. (second to last part! Pimp! PIMP!!!)
Heh. Again, mind me not. I should probably go power nap, 'cuz I have to go back to work tomorrow, so I need to sleep tonight...
Ah, fuckitall. AIM me, Luv, if you're not busy.

Date: 2006-03-28 10:58 pm (UTC)Dude, me either! I had a much better time on P-L, where people talked to me and commented on my stories, and I even got into some arguements. It was great fun.
And TS was a good place to start writing, too, because the source material had so many different directions to go in. You could do almost anything in Sentinel, and it would probably work. There was endless potential.

Date: 2006-03-21 02:42 pm (UTC)Oh, the flowers sound lovely, hun. Congratulations on your anniversary ^_^! The pink kangaroo sounds interesting... bit like a snakebite and black.

Date: 2006-03-23 02:35 pm (UTC)The pink kangaroo was lovely back then. I've never been able to recreate them totally since. I'd probably need a dodgy night club setting to do so *g*
