Apr. 26th, 2006 10:55 amCalling on the flist as a last resort.
I woke up and my computer had restarted itself. Which shouldn't have been a problem except I'd left Word open with a story I'm working on. Even so, I have auto save switched on, except it seems the last time it autosaved was about three days ago, 4000 words back. Now, it isn't as bad as it could be as I've been posting private to my LJ, except what I'd done late yesterday afternoon, about 1000 words worth.
I've tried every trick I know, my auto recovery programmes, searching Words deleted files, have been googling all morning but am getting nowhere. I suspect I need to suck this up and just rewrite, but still, it doesn't hurt to ask if anyone has any suggestions.
So, help.

When you see the little yellow Windows!shield with the ! in it on your toolbar, you can click on it to start an(y) available updates. While it's doing that, click "Cancel" and it will pop up with a notification screen that has a link on the bottom to CONFIGURE AUTOMATIC UPDATES. From there you can choose to NOT have them installed automatically, which is what causes the restart.
