May. 26th, 2006 10:55 amThey're admitting Kelly to hospital today, and inducing her tomorrow morning, so, there should be a new member of our family sometime this weekend. My brother's communication has shrunk to one word text messages. I can imagine how frantic he'll be, knowing he'll soon have a son or daughter. I hope he gets some good sleep tonight as it'll be the last he gets for a while.
I've seen this around so figured I'd join in.
"Imagine the LJ Lords decree that, from this time forth, it's five icons per user and only five icons per user. Which five of your icons would you choose?"

There was only one choice for the first one. I love my default, a lot. I can't begin to say how much I adore euro!Chris. The braids and braces combo kills me.

My penguin Pete icon. I use this for cyber hugs. A lot of time I don't know what to say when people are upset. Sometimes there's nothing you can say, so Pete says it for me.

My media fandoms tend to be overshadowed by the popstuff, but Mutant X is my show, will always be my show. I do watch for Brennan. I think Victor is gorgeous, love the character, the setting everything. Plus, it's an icon I tend to use when the pop ones wouldn't be appropriate.

Chris at the Celebrity release party and he looks so happy. I use this icon a lot. So many of you make me laugh, in a good way of course. You're amusing, witty, and I show that by using laughing Chris.

It was hard to pick one of the trickc icons I have. They make me happy. I love them. End of.
X 3 was seen last night.
First, it was X Men so that was a thing of total squee. I so love that universe, seeing all the mutants, it was wonderful. Beast was fabulous! He looked good and I was impressed at how well he fit my vision of Beast, especially in the final battle scene where he was magnificent. I got chills watching him then. I wonder how confused people would be that don't really know any back story. I'm not an expert by any means, but I knew he was part of the X Men team, the only way casual viewers would know was him having an old uniform at the mansion.
Warren was cool, I loved his wings, but the person cast for him didn't do it for me. He was good looking and not offensive in any way, he just wasn't how I saw Angel. Not pretty enough by far.
Juggernaut was cool. I loved when he was running through the walls after Kitty, but each time I saw Vinnie Jones's face I kept flashing back to when he played football, and especially when he grabbed hold of Gazza's crotch. So that threw me out a little. But still, he was good in the role.
Charles dying. I don't think I was breathing in that scene, Magneto's face. He was doing an internal Noooooooooo!!!!! But at the same time. They had Jean kill Professor X! WTF!?
Also, they killed Scott! Jean killed Scott! He was in the movie, what, five minutes and then she killed him. Again, wtf!
Iceman/Pyro. Could they get any slashier? I don't think so.
Mystique. Seeing her made 'normal' like that was way harsh. Especially Magneto's comment that she used to be so beautiful. Also, Magneto at the end, playing chess alone. The saddest thing ever. He's so powerful, man, when he moved the bridge I was in awe, and he was sitting there, an old man alone. I was thrilled when the chess piece moved. I have a lot of sympathy for Magneto and his ideals. The X Men universe is shades of grey, the drug to make them non mutants should be seen as a bad thing, because there's nothing wrong with them. But at the same time, should people be allowed the choice to take it if they want? It all ties into how they're perceived by the population at large. Mutancy shouldn't be a thing, just something different, the same way everyone is different in some way. But some people can't see it like that. Like Warren's dad, and that scene where young Warren was hacking at his wings. It broke my heart.
Rogue hardly did a thing, just a lot of jealousy.
Wolverine rocked, even if he was tamed.
Loved looking at the morlocks.
Everyone left when the movie finished except us and a group of fanboys further up. The staff came in to clean then stood to the side when they saw us there, and man, are those credits long. I actually let out a YAY! when Charles spoke, which amused one of the cinema staff greatly.
Summing up. The film crammed too much in but despite that, I enjoyed it a lot, despite the wtf!? moments. It's not as good as the first two, but it's still good. I'll be seeing it again for sure. We're going tonight

Date: 2006-05-26 10:12 am (UTC)It was cool, wasn't it? I loved it as well despite the wtf moments, like you. I think it's just the way to watch it, anyway. I roll my eyes and then just forget I did and enjoy the fun.
Without any kind of order:
Each time Kitty does her thing, it makes me squee. It's weird cause it's not as if I thought it was the best power to have, by far, but I think it's a very fun power and each time she goes through a wall/the ground/whatever, it makes me bounce in delight.
THEY KILLED CHARLES OMG! I couldn't believe when it happened. And Magneto's face *wibbles*
As for the scene post-credits, Rémi and I had to leave as soon as the credits started rolling so we couldn't stay til the end and we missed that scene and it's so SAD because it positively ROCKS! Good thing we'll go and see the film a second time on Monday, isn't it? *can't wait*
They also killed Jean and Cyke. Man, they were in a murdering spree. I can't say I cared that much for Scott - sorry, Scott - but still, it was like they were killing X-Men left and right. Scary stuff.
Magneto's behaviour towards Mystique was so harsh! It made me wince and hate the guy, and I love him so it hurt even more. I also loved Mystique so it just hurt all around!
Mutancy shouldn't be a thing, just something different, the same way everyone is different in some way. But some people can't see it like that
Totally, it made me think of homosexuality and the way people see us; how lot of people think we're sick and should be cured. It's another thing I love with the X-Man movies, the whole mutan-gay parallels one can see...

Date: 2006-05-26 10:29 am (UTC)I can go read other reviews now, I was staying spoiler free, and man, was that hard. I have this urge to click a cut tag whenever I see one *g*
I think a second viewing will be a good thing. There was so much going on it was impossible to see everything. PLus, it's an excuse to watch and ponder why Wolverine's trousers stayed intact.

Date: 2006-05-26 10:39 am (UTC)My review was pretty spoiler free. I think the only spoiler in there was something I knew about before seeing the movie anyway :)
More to the point, it's an excuse to watch and wish that they hadn't stayed intact ;)

Date: 2006-05-26 10:43 am (UTC)I really liked Kitty. The Rogue/Bobby/Kitty threesome was a little annoying but Kitty herself rocked. She looked so young, but at the same time, she kicked ass. Her power is so cool!
I went in spoiler free, so seeing Charles killed was such a shock. He can't be dead! WHich of course he wasn't, but I didn't know that at the time. His relationship with Magneto fascinates me. They're working for the same thing from different sides, and their friendship is shown well when Magneto turns on Pyro for saying he'd have killed Charles.
I'd heard there was a scene at the end before I went, but when everyone left I started to doubt what I'd heard. I was glad those fanboys remained too. Because Charles! It makes me wonder if Scott could come back too.
He's not my favourite character either, but he was so underused in this. A bit angst, a few lines and then he's dead. You're right, X Men were being killed off right and left. The founding members were going down like flies, which was scary to see.
Man, yes! I love Magneto, but looking at him staring down at Mystique with such contempt hurt. Yes, she was human now but treating her like he did. So wrong. I'm just glad he didn't kill her.
Totally, it made me think of homosexuality and the way people see us; how lot of people think we're sick and should be cured
Yeah, I was thinking along those lines and I do love the parallels they're creating. Whether they're deliberate or not is another matter. I'm really not sure.
So much love for the film!
Last thing, the fanboys were talking about the next movies, and were saying Gambit needs to be featured. I so agree!

Me neither! I was all "OMG SLASHY!" when they were together on screen....
Oooh yes.

This movie hit very close to home for me, who is in actuality a mutant. And the "cure" for spina bifida is here already in the form of folic acid, prenatal testing and abortions. I'm against stem cell transplants in people with spinal cord injuries, too (I never understood the "let's take these killed babies and make people not paralyzed anymore" thing, to be honest)...so I guess I take it more seriously than most people. I enjoy it, though! :-)

Date: 2006-05-26 10:56 am (UTC)There's something delicious about friends that are now enemies. The confrontation, fire against ice. I was spellbound.
Oooh yes.
Like I was saying to Castalie, Magneto wants the same thing as Charles, but he's working on it a different way. Obviously Charles' way is the better, but I do sympathise with Magneto. He's a bad guy that I like a lot.

I think the problem is perception. You should judge on actions only. It shouldn't make a difference if you're a mutant, disabled, gay, black, old and on and on and on.
I hope you enjoy your second viewing.

I feel the same way about him, I must say.

Amen to that!
I hope you enjoy your second viewing.
I decided that I'd had enough action today, and that I want to wait for at least another day before I watch it again...so it looks like I'm going tomorrow night. I'm sure I will enjoy it then too. :-)

It was hard picking 5 icons, well, some were must haves, but the others. Ouch at picking!

Date: 2006-05-27 08:49 pm (UTC)*laughs* Don't worry! It was said during the movie too, and in some ways it is true but I think that Logan walks a fine line between tamed and wild. Which is part of his attraction, I think ^_~!

Date: 2006-06-05 07:32 pm (UTC)I wonder how confused people would be that don't really know any back story.
Oh, I don't think it'd be confusing, but I loved that they packed a few gimmicks for the people who do know some of the back story in every movie. Though I'm by far no expert, either. I was just in the fandom for the slash, yo.
They had Jean kill Professor X! WTF!?
Sometimes I got the impression that Jean was only in the movie to make sure not a lot of X-Men survived it. She didn't do much else than kill, did she?
Iceman/Pyro. Could they get any slashier?
Oh God. I honestly expected them to kiss when they met while Bobby was searching for Rogue. Did we see what happened to Pyro after the final fight, by the way? Or did I just miss it?
But some people can't see it like that. Like Warren's dad
Well, I'd say he sees things a little differently now.
