Sep. 16th, 2006 10:51 amWhen KC was here she introduced me to the delights of fresh fruit salad. Since then I sometimes make a bowl up and keep in the fridge for breakfast and if I get hungry at night. I've actually developed a thing for fresh pineapple, it's just yummy, but man, is it difficult to get at. You wrestle with the spiky top, hack at the bumpy sides, but it's so worth it. Anyway, why I'm bringing it up is the banana always goes brown and yucky, even after a day. Am I missing some preserving trick? Should I be putting some kind of juice on? Because I just chop up and throw in the fruit now. So, any fruit salad tips?
The MiL is still in hospital. We'd hoped she could come out yesterday, but it wasn't to be. It wasn't a good night yesterday. She's been in a ward and quite liked it there. She was near a window, important because the place is boiling hot. With people she liked and could talk to. Then she was moved, and they've put her on a geriatric ward. She's on a ward with someone who's clearly mentally disturbed and spends all the time screaming and shouting at anyone in sight. The MiL told Nicola not to bring my niece and nephew in anymore because they were so disturbed by this woman. She's just been told she's diabetic, has heart problems, is on a load of new drugs which means she can't take pain killers for her arthritis, on a ward she hates with a mostly foreign staff who can't understand her properly. It just got too much for her last night, she was crying and, when he left my FiL was crying, and he just doesn't do that. Fingers crossed she can be moved today.
We're going to see her today, before that though we're going to go buy a new tumbler. No more drying clothes over the radiators or backs or chairs. Glee! By next week everything should be fixed in the house, which hopefully includes my computer monitor. The one I'm using is fine, but I miss my flat screen.
Before I go though, have a meme.
Give Me Something
Of course we're talking symbolic here, I don't expect you to go buy me anything...just post telling me something you're giving me: an actual thing, a song, a thought, a wish, a piece of advice, something you know I've always wanted...etc. etc. etc. If it was within your power, what would you give me?
As the norm with memes, take it to your place and see what you get from your fellow LJers.

Date: 2006-09-16 12:32 pm (UTC)I hope the MiL is able to leave hospital today - or at least to be transferred to a different ward (it sounds awful!).
And I'd give you a magic machine that transcribed pretty fic thoughts automatically from your head to the page (no... not a computer... MORE magic). Or possibly euro-era-Chris with a need for comforting over the braces.

Date: 2006-09-16 01:12 pm (UTC)Re the fruit sallad I'm going to be a slightly dissenting voice and say that while lemon juice (or lime) is indeed perfectly okey to use orange juice works just as well and tastes much better together with the rest of the fruit!
I'm giving you a pocket-sized Chris-with-braids-and-braces of your very own, complete with one interchangeable sparkly boy for the pairing choice of the day :-)

Sadly she's still on the same ward, we just hope she can get out tomorrow. It's bad enough being in hospital without being surrounded by the people she is.

Dude, I don't know which one I want more. They're both perfect!
