Oct. 26th, 2006 12:54 pmJames got his cast off yesterday, and man, what an afternoon. It took 45 minutes to find a parking place at the hospital, then it was a case of going to the fracture clinic, which was standing room only. Onto the plaster room for removal, then x-ray and another wait, back to fracture clinic to wait to see the doctor again. Only to find the bone hasn't healed. It's still snapped through, with only a few fragments of bone starting to form. But they haven't put a cast back on, instead he's got a soft removable split with a metal insert. The only problem being James' wrists are so bent the metal bit doesn't fit at all. Plus he's got a staple from an old operation just under the skin of his hand, and the splint is pressing painfully on that. We had to stop on the way home and improvise padding with cotton wool and bandages. So basically he's been discharged with broken hand still, and told no heavy lifting for eight weeks until it's healed.
We came back from there and had to pick the bettaware books up. There were over 100 of the damn things out, and of course it was bucketing it down, and really windy. Knocking at doors in the dark, cold, wet and fed up isn't my favourite thing to do at all. Though I was rocking the plastic look. I haven't got a waterproof coat, so put on the plastic mac thing the MiL bought for me. Think the plastic sheet affairs you can buy for water rides and you're close. The thing is huge, big even on me, so it was flapping around me as I hurried down the street, cursing myself for wearing sandals in the rain. What can I say? I'm not smart at times.
Kay's taken Corey out for the day, James is at work, so it's just me and Silver. I need to do the bettaware order first though, then get started on my costume for tomorrow. This isn't going to go well I can tell. I may still be trying to attach cob webs this time tomorrow. I'm actually looking forward to the party, especially as the best friend and her son are coming too. The only worry is mam. She's in a trouble making phase, but what can you do except hope she doesn't drink too much?
CSI people. Does the show have actual arcs? I ask because right now between living and 5US I'm watching three different seasons. If there are arcs I may be screwed.
Okay, I need to do that order, and while doing so will ponder SeSa choices. Two years I've had trickc, once trickyfish. I may throw something else into the mix this year.

Date: 2006-10-26 01:47 pm (UTC)Re: CSI--there's character development over time, but it's not like Buffy, or God forbid, Lost, where you can't enjoy the show unless it's in order. And sadly, there's not always the follow-through you might want on major events, you know, in later episodes. I'd give examples, but I don't know what you've seen and what you haven't, so I don't want to spoil you. Um--I guess, you'd want to see the two parts of Grave Danger in order, but other than that, you'll be able to sort out when the eps are pretty quickly, just by Greg's hair and how old folks look. *grins* There are some episode guides out there that can help put the puzzle pieces together, too...

Date: 2006-10-26 02:22 pm (UTC)There is also an ongoing thing about one of the main characters developing a sort of disability in season three which is hinted to throughout seasons 1 and 2, but once you realise who and what it is, you don't really need to know much else.

Date: 2006-10-26 02:39 pm (UTC)Thanks for the info about CSI. It really is a great show, it makes me wonder why I held out watching it for so long. Right now, because of watching different seasons on different channels, Greg's hair is going from really spiky to sort of wavy and over his forehead. It's amusing me a lot.
You know, I may be ready to be pointed in the directions of story recs. I feel ready *g*

Date: 2006-10-26 02:43 pm (UTC)And recs--talk to me about pairings you like, and story types... How are you on angst? Kink? Crackfic? I mean re: CSI, I know how you are in general, you bad girl. Heh. Are you mostly drawn to the younger characters, or would you also like stories about Brass and Grissom (together or otherwise)?

Date: 2006-10-26 03:21 pm (UTC)Oh, and good to know James is out of his cast, that's good even with all the problems, right?

Date: 2006-10-26 04:13 pm (UTC)If you ever find any decent Gil/Greg, please let me know. I haven't found anything which didn't bring me PAIN, LOTS OF PAIN.

Date: 2006-10-26 04:21 pm (UTC)I was curious and went looking for fic earlier. I found the most horrific Gil/Greg where Gil was this over-blown master stereotype keeping Greg locked in his house, naked and wearing a collar.
I backed away quickly, I've only seen a few eps but knew that just wasn't right. I'm sticking to recs from now on.

Date: 2006-10-26 04:55 pm (UTC)Dude, that doesn't surprise me at all. Practically every Gil/Greg story I found seemed to be like that. I don't know where all the great CSI writers are, but if they're writing that pairing they're hiding themselves well. I literally could not find ONE Gil/Greg story of the 'characters are attracted to one another, characters have to overcome problem of their working relationship, characters figure something out, have sex, and live happily ever after' type. Not. One.
I *begged* for decent Gil/Greg recs, and I got one rec for some stuff which a) were still not exactly good, and b) almost all featured Nick Stokes. And while Nick is a nice enough as a character, he's one of those guys, like Angel or Ricky Martin, where I just really don't want to have to imagine him naked.

Date: 2006-10-26 05:18 pm (UTC)there's a few arcs, but they're mostly two-parters. there's a few characters who comes back after a while, though...

I'm going to second Pen and say that you can never get enough good trickyfish. (Though I might add that Kevin also gets far too few stories written about him :-)

Date: 2006-10-26 08:41 pm (UTC)The angsty ones on their site have lots of bad things happen, at least in the beginning of the story, but they're external bad things, not bad things Gil and Greg do to each other--Gil and Greg are very sweet to each other throughout, even in the wild crackfic. And normally I don't like hurt/comfort, just comfort (I'm a weenie), but they make it work for me--though I admit I read faster through the trauma portion.

Date: 2006-10-27 10:12 am (UTC)I have to admit though, the more I see the show, the more I'm leaning towards a Greg/Sara/Gil OT3. I can't help it. They're all so sweet with each other.

Date: 2006-10-27 11:10 am (UTC)I think there is another, parallel version of CSI where Gil's apartment is entirely decked out in black with chains hanging on every wall, and where Greg is a whimpering bitch. They probably show it on a channel I don't get since we canceled the Sky subscription.
Greg/Sara/Gil OT3
See, that I could deal with. Except I have a feeling that given the track record of the fandom, Sara would be wearing spiked heels and a steel corset, and she and Gil would be taking turns whipping Greg and locking him in the cellar.

Date: 2006-10-27 12:31 pm (UTC)That's very true. At least it'll be a good Christmas gift when it's finally healed after the 8 weeks.
LOL. I never forget the trickc, sadly you can't really request threesomes. At least not officially. I guess hinting in the comment sections could count ;)

Date: 2006-10-27 12:37 pm (UTC)Yep. It's stupidity and I agree, a recipe for disaster. He's seeing our doctor asap, right now he has to work because he's used all his sick days, but he's off tomorrow, and I suspect a visit to the dr will happen then.
Sandals? In the rain? In October?? *shudders violently* You're insane!
I know! I don't know what I was thinking. It was sheeting down too :(
Kevin is totally going to be my crossover boy. I always pick a full Nsync and a crossover as my choices. Now I have to decide my full Nsync pairing.

Date: 2006-10-27 01:22 pm (UTC)The Ricktrick is totally picked, I still don't know about the other though.
It is good he's out of his cast in some ways, but sadly the splint really isn't cutting it at all. I suspect he may have to go back into a cast...sigh.
