Happyfic

You're all enablers, and I love you for that!

[livejournal.com profile] vaudevilles and I are organising a happyfic challenge. It's very much at the discussion stages now, but what I need are suggestions for prompts. We've already discussed a few, but more are always welcome.

The one thing I'm not keen on are picture prompts, and lyrics seem to have been done everywhere, but still, if you have a group/lyrics you think would work, let us know. I'd especially love other kinds of prompts, maybe titles of books you love, just use your imagination.

There's no firm date yet, but I'm thinking July/August time. After remix and before SeSa, hopefully avoiding the pairing days.

I just want happyfic. Because right now I'm full of love for our fandom. You know that cheesy sequence of throbbing heart Chris heads in The Reel Nsync? It feels like I'm surrounded by those, or the hearts of a first kiss in The Sims. I'm watching footage and listening to music and am just bursting with love for them all. Therefore, happyfic, because they deserve to be happy!

So yeah, feel free to tell us what you think. We'll listen.

Ooh, I'll move my suggestion for prompts here:

How about, instead of picture or lyric prompts, getting people to put in actual requests? Everyone could put in a few (3, 4, 5?) different requests when they sign up, with more or less detail as they prefer (I guess that less detail would be more likely to get the request picked), and then when sign-ups finish people could choose a request they want to write from the final pool. You could even let non-writers put in requests, to increase the pool size and make sure there was something for everyone. The only rule would be that the requests have to be for happy stories.

It would be a bit like DWNOGA/Yuletide, except they people would be able to choose a request that didn't scare them :-)

I really like that idea.

I especially like it because it allows everyone to join in with the prompts. I'm always aware that non-writers are excluded in challenges and this way they get to play too. Plus, it takes away from us saying, this is what you've got to pick from. The more people giving prompts the better range there'll be. I could ask for Lou

Thank you!

See, I would say that at that point, you really HAVE to include Justin and Nick too. And some candles.

I have this mental image.

Justin, on his knees, Lynn at one end, kissing him, Nick at the other, slowly sliding a candle into Justin. Jane would be trying to get involved, and Nick would be trying to push her away. All the while Lou, naked, would be sitting watching them, piggy eyes darting around as he jerked off.

Nope, no exchanging.

What we'd do is post asking for prompts. People would have a week or so to comment with them. When the time is up, the prompts would be gathered together and posted in list form, eg, all trickc prompts, all howie/nick, all crossovers etc.

People could then look and claim what prompt they want. Then they have so many months to write something based on what they picked.

What a charming idea, and I like [livejournal.com profile] nopseud's suggestion a lot - a choice of prompts that can be written sounds like a great plan, and rather unusual for a challenge. One writer per prompt, or any prompt can be grabbed by anyone who wants to write it?

It was an excellent suggestion.

One writer per prompt, or any prompt can be grabbed by anyone who wants to write it?

You know, I'm not sure. My initial reaction was one writer one prompt, but it's always cool to see how different stories evolve from the same prompt. Then again, it wouldn't be good if some prompts were claimed many times and others just left.

I'll have to think more on that.

That's true. Something I'd think I'd like is that if I want, I could write more than one story. I don't know how that would reflect on the amount of prompts utilized, but still.

If everyone who signs up can suggest two or three prompts, and non-writers can add prompts too, then there should be loads to go around and no problem with people writing multiple stories. Although I think to make it fair, people should have to finish and submit the first story before they can take another prompt.

well, a prompt can be claimed just two times, like a paring in a fic challenge. Those who are claimed already by two people, won't be available so the rest of the people would be forced to move on to the next prompt. that way, most of the prompts will get picked.

Well, it's just a suggestion I don't know if it'll work :P

I reckon if we say any prompt can be taken by two different writers and then close that prompt off that would work. Maybe three writers per prompt depending on the number of signups?

And IMHO writers should be able to claim a prompt, write and submit their story then claim another prompt if they want (ad infinitum wheeee!).

I like that idea, even though I'm so very bad at making story requests. My SeSa requests are usually very lame-I'd like Trickyfish during NSA, happy ending please! Very helpful.

I guess I'd have to be a bit more specific. :)

On the plus side, with a more general request you're probably more likely to get it written than with, say, 'I want a Bassez historical AU set in the southern USA in the late nineteenth century, where Lance and JC are con artists posing as evangalical preachers in order to scam their way across the country.'

Oooohhhh... I would read that story! Hee! But I agree. The more specific a request is the harder it is to write, I think. If only for the fact that if somebody's gone to great lenghts to do that specific a request, they've already spent a lot of time thinking about it and would already have this mental image of how it would be. It's really hard to go from there to match the request.

Wow, that was a long comment for "I agree with you". [g]

Okay, so happyfic = AWESOME idea, because even I might find it in me to write after such a long while right now. I'm completely in love with fandom right now that I'm pretty much pining.

So yes! I really like the idea of everybody being able to leave prompts. I wanted to suggest (though maybe you were thinking it already, I don't know) that after all the prompts are done, they could be organized by pairing or some other grouping and posted in a new post or on a website, because I for one absolutely hate looking through tons and tons of comments to see what might catch my interest.

That's my two cents. :) (Or two pences, which I still have several of. Heee.)

Oh yay! You writing! That would be awesome in the extreme!

That's a great suggestion, and one that could be easily done. I suspect it would be a case of a post where people could leave prompts, maybe left open for a week or so. Then another post would go up with the pairings grouped together. At which point people can look and claim.

Great idea! And with the newsletter it'll be easy for people to keep track.

Do we want to set up a special journal? Or I can run the prompt log and stuff if you like and make my journal the central point? Or your journal?

And then the final stories get hosted at your site? And I can totally help with uploading and formatting and all that admin-y stuff...
