The remix authors were revealed yesterday, so I can reveal I wrote In a Room Full of People. The Times it by Seven Remix Which is trickyfish and JuC with helpings of Joey/Kelly and Briahna set around the week before a reunion tour.

This was my first remix and it's been interesting. I always said I'd never join remix, mostly due to a terror of messing with someone else's story, and if I'm honest, I didn't know how I'd feel about someone changing one of my own stories. I imagined someone taking one of my stories and making it a thousand times better, how the idea would look with a good writer behind it. As it was, I didn't feel like that at all and loved reading [livejournal.com profile] stubbleglitter's take on my story 'Spot' the way she gave it a whole new slant, one I enjoyed a lot.

When I was first given my assignment I sort of panicked. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, and spent a long time just reading through [livejournal.com profile] patchworkdragon's site. I ended up flailing at various people until finally I decided to remix 'A Room Full of People'. The original story is Lance giving Chris a blowjob in the middle of a crowded room, I decided to extend that to seven days, with the degrees of sex going up for each one. Because I'm crazy. I hate writing sex, I suck at writing sex. Why I picked a story based on sex I don't know. In the end the story didn't develop like I planned. Because I did have a plan, in fact I sent emails along the line of. If Monday is a quick kiss and Saturday is actual penetration, where does a blow job go on that scale? And people answered, because I have awesome friends.

I actually stopped before actual sex, because I suck and was at my limit of cringing at myself. Seriously, I love sex scenes, but someone beta reading my pitiful attempts makes me want to hide in a corner. There was also an insane few days where I went back and forwards with various people if you could have sex in the back of a car. I tell you, I did a lot of thinking that weekend *g*

The JuC subplot wasn't planned at all. They just appeared and took over, and how the hell did that happen?

I do like what I ended with. I think the story stands on it's own just fine and you don't need to read the first to understand my take on it.

I've read a lot of interesting takes on remix lately. Whether stories should be independent of the original or if you have to keep the heart of the first story in your own remix. As a newbie to the whole remix thing, I have to say it doesn't really matter. I read and fed every story before reveal, some stood alone, some didn't, but all the stories worked for me, and I was amazed at the different ways people approached remix. Because surely that's the whole point. To put your own spin on something, and that means stories that can spin off in a thousand different directions.

Feedback has been low, but it seems this is a familiar thing for remix stories, which is a shame. These stories may be based on another story, but believe me, they can be read on their own, and should be judged on their own merits. I enjoyed every story that I read, and if you haven't already, I recommend you give them a try. It's totally worth it.

Lastly, huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] vaudevilles, [livejournal.com profile] ephemera_pop, [livejournal.com profile] nopseud and [livejournal.com profile] msktrnany They kept me sane through the whole process. And a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] stubbleglitter for such a great challenge.

ETA: I've finally seen Joey and OH MY SQUEE! I have no words! JOEY!
