Jul. 20th, 2007 03:13 pmI've noticed a few people posting about how July used to be CFTC time. That reminded me it was around this time I fell for the sparkly many years ago. So, I went looking through old journal entries and found a few to show how fast I fell.
The first one is one of the first casual mentions I made in public of liking BSB fic.
it was fun, wandering from fandom to fandom. I went back to my roots and read Trek, some old Voyager faves and looked for some Enterprise slash. I really like Enterprise, especially Trip, but I've never entered the fandom, so I had trouble finding the good stuff. But I eventually read enough Tucker/Reed to satisfy me. Then I moved onto Voyager. Chakotay/Paris have a special place in my heart. Tom Paris - one of my first fandom loves, so brave and cute and vulnarable, and so ruled by fanon *g* But that's how I love my Tom.
Went on to some Popslash ( I *like* popslash okay. I love reading about sparkly boys of the BSB variety, Kevin just makes me melt.)

So it looks like I've joined another fandom. But one that embarrasses me a little to be in and a load of people think is wrong and immoral. I couldn't fall for SV or something, no I had to fall into the sparkly side.

It's rps/boyband/popslash. Specifically of the Backstreet Boys Nsync kind. It just embarrasses me to admit to it as it sounds such a teeny thing to obsess about, boybands, but I do like them. And they touch *all* the time. The pictures are enough to make you want to constantly drool.
But I know that a lot of people are really opposed to rps, and in some ways I agree. I could never slash Garett and Richard from TS for instance. But boybands...oh man, I'm gone about them.
(which, wow. Now I'll slash anyone and anything. I've come so far, baby *g* )

Another thing, we were in a music store while I went to buy some CD's. So I got Justin Timberlake's latest, hey no laughing, I like boybands, esp BSB, hmmm sexy Kevin

I adore songvids and lately I've been downloading mega amounts of Backstreet Boys stuff, yeah I'm asad teeny popslash obsessed BSB fan. It's weird as I've no desire to have footage of say Linkin Park etc but the boys are so pretty and they touch all the time and hug and damn just look at him...points at icon. I'm embarrassed about it but the glittery side has a good hold of me just now.
Feel free to mock, I deserve it ;)

The next was part of an interview meme. There's also another one I replied to back then where I gave a full explanation of how BSB were my boys, and Nsync just didn't cut it. Yeah. I know.
Are you looking for a new fandom, or actively avoiding getting sucked into something new?
I'm trying not to be sucked full time into popslash. The thing is I like boyband slash but I'm also faintly ashamed as I know it's such a sore point for people. When I'm reading at the popslash sites I don't feel it, but when I come back to media fandom and hear the anti rps slash thing I sorta think, what the hell are you doing? I only read popslash, simply because I doubt that the image that they show onscreen is themselves, it's an act of sorts. But I also know that's not enough for most people. I've done a short BSB slash fic and I don't even know if I'll post it because of once I do that it means I've joined the fandom.

I didn't go to bed until after 3 last night even though I knew I had to get up early.
I blame Chris Kirkpatrick, I'm laughing at myself as a few weeks ago I commented to rhiannon_jehane how I didn't like Nsync, just BSB and now I'm sitting into the early hours reading through every Chris archive that I can find. Last night I had the Trickyfish, Choey and TrickC archives open and was working my way through them. I'm enjoying most of the pairings, well as long as Chris is involved, but must admit that Trickyfish is the one that's catching my interest. I'm tempted to write one but am restraining myself until I do the stories that I've listed now.
At which point my mind pretty much went, OMGCHRISYAYILOVEHIM! something that's still true over 4 years later.
Reading now, it's amazes me how paranoid I was back then of being in a rps fandom. The thing was, the fandom culture was different back then. RPS was very much seen as an evil and immoral thing, there were no huge rps fandoms like J2, so making the jump from all media to popslash seemed huge. But I did, and I'm so glad for that, because these last few years in fandom have been awesome.
In other news. I'm around, just busy. Corey told me last night he needed a fancy dress outfit to wear for the cat walk show today. Of course he told me just before his bedtime and said he'd forgot to tell me before. I also had a Nip/Tuck marathon. Not that I meant to, but it was the episodes where the carver was revealed, and I had to keep watching to find out who the heck it was. I have such love for that show, especially when it lets you ask such things as, I wonder how he lost his dick?
pensnest has posted a poll about Camp Sparkle the remix over at
sparklyukfans. If you too love the sparkly, if you love to talk to fantastic people, eat great food, laugh and just share the love of our boys. Go and check out the comm. Maybe think about coming next year.
Following on from what I said about changing my ISP. After a comment from
buddleia James called BT, and despite initially saying we still have to pay, once James mentioned the £70 max thing he was put on hold before the guy came back and said we could leave with no charge.
In a way I'm nervous about this. It will save us money, but we've been with BT since I first got the internet way back when. They've provided good service, well, despite the fact they keep getting on other ISPs spam lists and my emails would be blocked. But other than that, we've had very little down time. However, the cost is what matters.
Once we change I'll be turps33@sky.com, but that shouldn't be for a while yet. At least I don't think so. SKY said I'll have a three hour down time max, but if I suddenly disappear from the face of the earth,
ephemera can get in touch.
You know, whenever I think I have a vague number of popslash fans in my head, someone posts about Bitterchick's stories, and the comments show there's always so many more *g*
ETA: I've just picked up my mail, and
zacherysboxers thank you so much for the card. It's so much fun, and gorgeous. Just like you. *mwah*
ETA2:
brighton_girl has an idea about drawing attention to JC and Kate. Go check out her post here to find out more.
ETA3: Corey came home with his shirt all covered in good luck messages from his friends and teachers. I'll go and snivel now.
