I went grocery shopping today, and they had half of the Christmas candy already. I know that yesterday I was thinking how I should start making cards so it won't be so stressful making them and get presents and write SeSa as every year so far, but I wasn't serious!
I can understand people getting organised if they're hand making things. Because it does get hectic at that time of the year. But surely no one goes out and buys Christmas chocolate now? So wrong.
Well, apparently some people do, or else it wouldn't be in the stores so early. I'm just surprised that there's no Halloween stuff yet (which is not celebrated in Germany, but that hasn't stopped the candy industry from producing Halloween-themed sweets for a few years now).
I checked in our supermarket today. There were no christmas displays, but there was suspicious activity cleaning out room in the aisles. It's not going to take long. *shudders*
There should be a law! I wish we could take a leaf out of the Americans' book (now, there's a phrase I don't use very often!)... we should ban all Christmas stuff from shops until after Bonfire Night. I think that'd be fair.
back in the day when I worked for Kmart, the first week of September my store would start putting the Christmas decorations up on the shelves for sale. We didn't even have the Halloween stuff up and they'd have aisles of tree and house decorations for Christmas. Used to annoy the heck out of me. I'd complain every morning at the store meeting. lol. They never listened, just like when they were playing NKOTB videos on a tv at the front of the store and I asked them to quit doing it. Gave me a look and said something about "big selling item" and "company is a tour sponsor." Pft. I know it was all a plot to make me insane.
and now I'll shut up and quit stealing comments. ;)
Ah... you lot are as bad as us lot. Ah well. It does give us the chance to do the Christmas shopping in September... and, in my case, forget half of what I've bought and dash out frantically in December to get more. :-(
And now you've distracted me from my Christmas rant and made me think of a delayed gratification scene, that takes part on a pool table. Maybe not 17 weeks though. That would be cruel *g*
Bah! If I had written that story I would have roasted that irritating child instead of the goose or what ever the bird was. Tiny Tim my arse. And his crutches would have made good fire wood. Oh I'm getting into the spirit of Humbug again! Joy!
I hate to say this, but at our sister Oxfam shop in the county town, where they have no stroage space at all they had to put the Christmas cards out as soon as they arrived. And somebody bought some last week.
And working in a shop, loads of people tell me when buying cards in eg October, that they have started their present shopping for non-themed things way baack in Spring or Summer.
I can understand present buying. It makes sense to spread it out. If you're organised enough anyway, I've never been able to. It's the chocolate advent calendars that get me. Who needs them now?
All of our Christmas stuff, trees ornaments etc are getting set up at work this week. If I had a dollar for every customer who complained about it being too early I would be rich. I think we all forgot about Halloween and Thanksgiving!
I can imagine the complaints you get. It makes you wonder why they put things out so early. There has to be some reason, unless it's just needing to make as much money as possible.
Dude, you know that I love Christmas as much as you do but I have to second that. It's so soon, man, too soon! Things are supposed to happen at the right time *sigh*
So, so wrong! They should wait until after Halloween, imho. But it's funny because I was just having a conversation last week with a colleague that the Christmas stuff would be appearing soon. It makes it all so commercial :-( !
It does make it commercial. I know a lot of people like to shop early, but I really think after Halloween is soon enough. I mean, who needs chocolate advent calendars now?

You're right. I want to enjoy the end of my summer, not get launched right into Christmas.
