Sunday always seems to be a busy, but good day. Yesterday it was the first competitive match in the rugby season. Corey's playing second line scrum now, and he's got so much better since last season. Of course the fact that he's a good foot taller and heavier than most in his age groups mean he's good in the scrum. Though it did collapse a few times yesterday, and he ended with stud marks down his shoulder. Sadly they lost both games, one try to nil the first, two to nil the second, but they played really well. I also made a mistake by going in my slip on shoes, so by the time we went my feet were drenched and as my skirt was ground length, it was wet in a foot high band at the bottom.

After that it was visiting nanna and dad, then we went to the cinema to see Mr Woodcock, which was just, meh. More visiting to the in laws then home where Corey and me made chicken stew for tea before watching some of the shows on the Sky plus.

Saturday was the parade. I saw nanna there, and by the time I finished talking to her there were no spots at the roadside and I ended four rows of people back. I was taking pictures with my camera held in the air, so they're not that great.




Houghton is a pit town. The actual pit was closed down when I was a kidlet, but the people of the area are still proud pit people. Wow, tongue twister there *g* Those are the pit banners, each ward has their own banner and it was the first time in years I've seen them paraded like that. It was a beautiful sight.





I wish I'd managed to get closer, because some of the banners are gorgeous.

A virtual cookie to anyone that spots Corey. He ended up pulling the bath for the whole parade, then had to pull it back to the scout hut after. Guess there are disadvantages to being the biggest scout sometimes.

Lastly, I've been reorganising and put all the bobbleheads on one shelf. I have to admit, ten of the things together is creepy, especially the Justin ones that retain their serial killer expressions.







It's the fireworks display tonight. They're also roasting the ox for the roast ox sandwiches. Not that I'll be getting one.

I suspect they shuffle around at night. See the end Justin? How his head is to one side. Someone tried to kill him I'm sure. I think it was Joey.

That's very true. I suspect there may have been a falling out about who the best looking Justin was. Which is silly, surely they can see the advantages of looking identical apart from clothes?! Hello, it's as close to having bob sex with yourself that they'll get!

He likes it in the scrum. He's not really fast enough to play on the wings, but he can get down and push. Though it does worry me when the scrums collapse. But you just have to live with that, with the whole dangerous sport thing really. I mean, one of the older kids had their shinbone snapped yesterday :(

All those banners are gorgeous! Very much like some of the old union banners and socialist banners from the turn of the last century I've seen here in Sweden, though of course those mostly have a red background.

I'm almost sure I've spotted Corey in that pic - it's his eyes and the top of his head just above the white hair of the elderly lady, yes? (And go him for having improved so much in rugby!)

Justin-the-bobblehead makes me laugh hysterically! He looks completely demented! The smiles of Joey and Chris also got something slightly manic about them. Lance on the other hand looks very relaxed and laidback, especially the crossed-arm-cow-patterned-trousers one :-)
