If what I've seen today is any indication, I may be taking a LJ holiday when Lance's book is released. Fandom is my happy place, and there's only so many Justin bashing comments I can take before I want to kick something.

I've been watching Dante's Cove today, and wow, it's utter crack. The acting is terrible, it's clichéd, melodramatic, makes little sense, but man, I enjoyed it. I'd say it was the Nifty fic of the tv world, and as such, is a definite keeper.

We had to get some groceries this morning, and I had to push James around Asda in a wheelchair. I'm obviously out of practice because by the end my back was killing and I had blisters on the palm of my hand. Though I did manage a one handed push while holding three bags of shopping on the way out, which has to be a win.

[livejournal.com profile] lucylooo posted about disliking pairing names earlier, and I had to comment with how the pairing name for Jim/Blair makes me shudder. I mean, Blim, how can that be good? It's weird, because I love the popslash pairing names, but have a problem with others I've seen. I know, hypercritical, but I can't help it. So, a challenge for you, what's the worst pairing name you've seen? Horrify me with the way fans smush perfectly good names together.

Is this whatever Lance was talking about on Myspace yesterday when he was begging people not to take released extracts out of context, or, in fact, not to read the extracts at all and just and please wait to read the whole book before they said anything? Do I want to know?

No, wait, what am I saying? Of course I don't want to know! Ignore me.

Horrify me with the way fans smush perfectly good names together.

The one I really hate is Spander. Why would anyone *do* that? I mean a) it's just lame all on its own, no other justification needed, and b) it already has the coolest pairing name ever with S/X.

That's it. I don't get some people. They're far too quick to jump onto a blame bandwagon. Maybe there was tension back then, but they've obviously got over that, so who are these fans to hold grudges?

Spander is so wrong! There's no need for that at all.

Oh my god, pairing names. I know I'm not going to be able to remember the ones that I have the most, but I definitely know that basically all of the Spike-related pairing names from Jossverse bug me. Seriously, Spuffy? Spangel? Spander, as previously noted? SO IRRITATING.

I also have always hated Jam for Jim/Pam from The Office US. (But I am ridiculously fond of PB&J for the same pairing, as suggested by the show itself.)

Blim makes me giggle. Just as a word. Blim, blim, blim. Hee.

(I'm sure I will be back with more, once my brain has had a chance to percolate on this.)

This whole smushed name thing has shown me that Spike gets a very raw deal. His pairing names are horrible!

PB&J is cute! See, I don't have problems with names that require more thought than shoving two names together.

Blim. I hate it so!

will it kill your fandom buzz if I ask for an idea about where these comments are at? I haven't been following the book saga and I'm not checking to many web sites but...heh. Most of the comments were at [livejournal.com profile] still_gay, which is flocked. But if you're not a member, it's worth joining if you want to know the Lance info. Mainly it was people who took Lance's words and immediately started to lay into Justin. Considering Lance himself said not to take his words out of context, well I just think they need to simmer down.

My least favorite smushed names: Drarry (Draco/Harry) and Snupin (Snape/Lupin). ICK.

You know what confuses me about this alternate Justin-Lance bashing? Why do people feel the need to take sides? I love Justin. I love Lance. They love each other! Or at least they love playing beer pong together! And as long as there's beer pong, that's all that matters :)

Drarry just sounds weird, not that Snupin is much better.

I have no idea why people take sides. To me loving both is the sensible thing to do, plus, beer pong!

What's the wank with Lance's book? (I have not seen it) Is he Justin bashing? Or just airing (justifiable) frustrations from the time?

Dante's Cove is pretty and that almost makes up for how incredibly badfic it is.

And OMG. Blim? Are you freaking serious? I've never heard that before now. Thank GOD.

It's tiny rumblings really, not full blown wank. I'm just worried that it's going to explode into wank when the book comes out. I know a lot of people don't like Justin, which is fine, but there's a fine line between airing views and coming out and saying that everything in the world is his fault. I should know better than to read on friendsfriends, because people seeing things only in black and white annoys me.

Dante's Cove is very pretty indeed. I'm so looking forward to tomorrow :D

Man, yes, blim. The first time I saw it I had to double check, because there were no pairing names at all when I was full time in the fandom, so why this need for them now?

I hope so too. It's what annoys me most about the whole Justin thing. Obviously Lance was hurt at the time, the others too probably, but time goes on and they're obviously friends again. Sometimes some people in fandom see things only in black and white, but in reality it's all shades in between. I don't see the point in holding grudges when the other four don't seem to hold them, and who are we to presume we know more than them?

Exactly. Some areas of the fandom take things too far, and can't see beyond their knee jerk reactions of what they're reading. I just don't get people getting up in arms like that, because Lance and Justin hang out together and are obviously friends. If they can get past that, why can't their fans?

I'll keep my fingers crossed that wank won't erupt, my flist are sensible, I'm sure it'll be a safe haven.

Snarry. Such an ugly word.
Spuffy, Spander, Spiles, all the Spike pairing names.

Actually, now that I think of it, there are more pairing names I hate than there are names I like. The popslash ones were at least somewhat creative (well, except for Joshtin. That's just terrible).

And I've never understood why some fans believe that, in order to love one guy, they must hate another. Weirdos.

So many bad names in the EVO fandom...But my least favorite is probably Scance (Scott/Lance). I mean, how dirty and nasty does that sound? It sounds like adj used to describe something you pulled out of the gutter.

Gundam Wing had no bad ones because it just used a numeric system :D and I love just about all of popslashes! Not Joshtin...but there is just this negative connotation attached to that as far as fiction goes. Iunno.

Scance def. the worst.

And I agree about the Lance book thing. People need to calm down...

Scance. Wow, that really is bad. It's one of those words that feel bad on your tongue.

I don't like Joshton either, for the reasons you say, and as I was telling Ames above, because of the Josh part. I just have a problem with stories where JC is called Josh.

People need to calm down...

I'd say it was the Nifty fic of the tv world, and as such, is a definite keeper.

*snerk* Definitely something for you :-)

Smushed pairing names are an abomination!! At least the poplash names are creative, not just contractions of two names! Spuffy and Spander and Snarry and Snupin and whatever they're all called make me shudder with distaste. They all sound so... juvenile!

I enjoy popslash pairing names as well (especially when faced with what else is out there: Snagrid? Clex? SNACO?! WTF), but one that I was never able to get fully behind was when some people tried to call timbertrick "Chrustin". Like a disease!!

However, I admit to being hideously amused by the alternate JoLa pairing name of "Fatass". If that had caught on, it would've been sweet.

I'd like to nominate JuC and Joshtin!

RE Lance: I think the media is trying to find as much drama as possible. Most of the book is probably far less dramatic, and he might even say a nice thing or two about Justin somewhere in there! So I hope it'll get better as we hear more. Though some people can turn nothing to drama as well, so.
