Nov. 27th, 2007 01:50 pmI have certain traditions I follow at Christmas. Some of the online ones are to squee when
castalie first mentions the big top, and to post a wishlist.
Therefore,
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
(1) Go and give some feedback. Anything you've enjoyed, let the creator know. Stories, fanvids, icons. If you like them, email or comment saying so.
(2) It's a busy time of year, but go and have some 'you' time. Take five minutes to read or eat chocolate, or anything that makes you happy. If it's not a busy time for you, have as much time as you like *g*
(3) If you've got stuff you no longer need or use, give it away. So many people have so little. Why keep things shoved into boxes or in the back of your closet if it can be used elsewhere?
(4) If you have a pet, go and give them a stroke, or a hug. Pets are awesome and give us unconditional love. So make sure they know we love them back.
(5) Go comment. Let people know you're reading those words they send into cyberspace.
(6) Post about what's making you happy right now. Happy posts are joy.
(7) There's always lots of wishlists going around this time of year. If you see any, have a look and see if you can grant any wishes.
(8) If you celebrate Christmas, once you decorate can you post pictures of your Christmas tree? I love Christmas so much, and seeing Christmas trees, all sparkly and wonderful is awesome!
(9) Make them bring Mutant X back. I miss my show.
(10) Finish my SeSa for me ;)

Date: 2007-11-27 06:23 pm (UTC)(2) I'm always already way too generous with the 'you' time though.
(3) I totally have to look into that and see if there isn't something I don't need anymore and that I can therefore give away.
(5) Will do.
(6) Done! (http://saba1789.livejournal.com/284033.html)
(7) OMG totally! I love fulfilling wishes and I really hope there are a few out there I can do something about :) .
(8) I can totally take a picture of the Christmas tree when I go home for Christmas! I just hope I'll remember to post it!
Awesome wishlist, Terri! Thank you! ♥

Date: 2007-11-27 08:24 pm (UTC)I guess the pictures of my Christmas tree have to wait. Around here we don't decorate the tree that early, it's always on December 24th.
I'd bring Mutant X back for you!
*hugs tight*

Date: 2007-11-29 07:50 am (UTC)I remember that you decorate your tree late. It's funny. James is itching to put up ours, which we will on the 1st. Like we do every year. Until then I shake my head at people who decorate in November as it seems too early. But then I know other people think we decorate far too early too. Traditions are so interesting.

Date: 2007-11-29 09:47 pm (UTC)Over here the majority of the people use real trees and putting up a real tree inside a month before Christmas is not a good idea. You'd have a very sad looking tree by the end of it ;-).
