I had to restart my computer earlier, and when I opened OE all my in box was gone, as well as a load of my folders. I have one email just now. My folders for the last five years of SeSas, gone. The folders I keep personal mail in. Gone.

It's not a total disaster as I have dupes of the mails at the web based account. But I'm talking about 60,000 emails stored there, all unorganised, spam, personal mail, years worth of LJ comments. I've found the dbx files on my computer, but I'm stuck at how to get the info back into OE.

I'm googling like crazy, but thought I'd ask here too.

ETA: Mira gets a gold star!

Sounds like you had to shut down your email program in the middle of a download and it's got corrupted - that's happened to me a couple of times with OE (which is why I don't use it any more!) and it's a pain.

It is recoverable, though - although, helpfully, I can't remember how! I think I had to uninstall and reinstall the programme?

Sorry. That's amazingly unhelpful.

If the (dbx) files are still there and still in one folder, you should be able to just import them. (maybe make a backup copy first) Open OE, go to "File" (? the first item in your menu, mine's obviously in German) > "Import" > "Messages" (or something like it). Then a list pops up where you need to chose which program you want to import from. Usually that's "Outlook Express 6", but check under the "?" > "Info" in your menu if you're not sure. Click "next" and in the next screen chose "Import from an OE6 folder structure" or someting like that (it's the second radio button). Click "OK" and search for the folder your dbx-files are in. And that should do it. I didn't want to click any further, or I'd probably end up with a lot of doubles in my OE.

If that doesn't help, holler, there's a second way that might.

I tried that but it keeps telling me that OE is using the file I'm trying to import :(

YAY! You're awesome. My folders are back! Sadly the in box is downloading over 59000 mails, but I can cope with that.

Thank you!

fantastic! I'm so glad you got it back! (I've had a similar thing happen with Thunderbird, but I know how to fix that now. - still - six years of loving filed email and sent mail!)

I was so pleased when the folders came back. I have so much saved, thinking it was gone was horrible.

Though I could do without the downloading problem.
