Does anyone know why Word sometimes writes over text when you type? It only happens sometimes, when I've pressed the wrong buttons by mistake probably, but what happens is instead of adding words or space in the middle of existing text, it'll just overwrite what's already there. Which is annoying. While I can fix it by shutting down Word, I wanted to know if it can be fixed without doing that?

Also, while I'm asking things, would anyone be willing to beta a story for me? It's bandom which is why I'm not hitting up my usual beta readers. It's short, about 3,000 words, Gerard and Mikey centric and needs to be back to me by tomorrow.

I'm easy to beta for, promise. You just need to bash back my angsty tendencies, sort out my grammar and dodgy word choices, indulge my wibbles, laugh at me when I make mistakes and prop up any canon shakiness. I know, I'm such an appealing prospect *g*

Or if you're not up to that, a look over to reassure against sucktitude will be fine too.

Now I get to go boring rl stuff. Why are there no robots to do this stuff yet? Why!?

ETA: Sorted for both, thank you!

May you hit the "Insert" key? This normally switches between insert and replace mode.

Press the "insert key" and then it should stop overwriting the text.

Sounds like you pressed the Insert key. Pressing it again should fix the problem. :)

ETA: Oh looks like I wasn't the only one to reply. Haha, sorry.

No need to be sorry. You all helped so much, I didn't even realise I had an insert key until now. I'm not smart at times.

Tools > Options
Make sure the Edit tab is selected.
Click on the Overtype Mode check box. If it is clear, then overtype mode is turned off and insert mode is active.
Click on OK.

More Mikey and Gerard! That is so awesome!!

I'm not the world's most experienced beta (my grammar sucks), but I am experienced at reassuring against suckitude! I'd be happy to read your story through and give you my thoughts.

Another way is to check the bar at the bottom of your Word window. It should have a couple of options in boxes like REC, TRK, EXT, and OVR. OVR is the overwrite function. If it's showing up as black text in stead of the normal grey (to show that it's turned off), double click on it. Hope I explained that properly!

So it does. You know, considering how often I use Word you'd think I'd know all this.

Thank you!

You can hit me up to beta anything. If you still need on this one, send it over and I"ll get it done this afternoon.

looks like everyone else has fixed your Word problem, and I would offer to beta except I REALLY MUST get this job done, and if I had a house-work doing robot that didn't burn put getting me caught up, I'd totally share.

Yep, it's all done. I just wish I'd asked earlier because it's something that's frustrated me for a while.

Also, thanks so much for the offer. You're a star.

I'm still perfecting the robots. Remember "Plug It In"? That was my test run. Turns out the robots were too good looking to be effective.

It did. Thank you :)

You need to keep working on those robots, I'd get one for sure.
