My eagerly awaited Saturday sleep in was a bust this morning when I woke up disgustingly early and couldn't get back to sleep. Watch, tomorrow when I need to be up I'll be cursing that alarm. I'd like to say I've done something productive since I woke, but what I've actually done is read a boatload of bad MCR fics and watched many 'making of' videos while mainlining hot orange and blowing my nose.

Anyway, have an oldish meme, entertain me while I'm sitting being pathetic.

Ask me for a fannish opinion, in any fandom I've ever shown any interest in. Ask about a character, a plot point, for speculation (whether canon or my own fanon). Ask me about some meta issue, whatever.

Who knows, I may even tell you the truth ;)

Last, I'm sick of having to scroll right back for my Chris month prompts, so I'm moving them behind

(1) Chris on Top Gear
(2) Chris and Rick the Temp
(3) Chris/Tony DiNozzo -- prompt movies
(4) Chris/Justin -- prompt JC
(5) Chris/Dean -- Inexplicable phenomenons
(6) Chris/Benji (from Good Charlotte) -- tattoos/piercings
(7) Chris/JC -- baby it's cold outside
(8) Chris/Pete Wentz -- blueberries are gross
(9)Chris/Mikey Way - prompt = alcohol or touring
(10)Chris/Frank Iero - prompt = pranks
(11) Chris/Nightcrawler -- tattoos, tails, scars
(12)Chris meets K9
(13) Chris/Lamp
(14) Chris/Nick -- Flying monkeys
(15) Chris/Petrelli Brothers -- super powers
(16) Chris/Agent Agent Seeley Booth -- bones
(17) Chris/Lance -- Halloween
(18) Chris/Joey -- Chilli peppers
(19) Chris/Reid -- fragile
(20) Chris/Danny Taylor -- someone in Nsync goes missing.
(21) Chris/Justin/Lance -- education.
(22) Chris/Brennan or Victor Webster
(23) Chris/Gwen from Torchwood: hot chips, salt, rain
(24) Chris/Jared -- candy
(25) Chris/Patrick -- head gear
(26) Chris/Harper -- snack food
(27) Chris/Hayden Christensen - Star Wars set

I thought I would sleep late as well, but totally didn't happen. But you will be happy to hear I have been working on my Mikey/Pete finally installment, so hopefully that will get posted this weekend or next.

Hmm, a fannish opinion...chose any you like:
Do you think Mikey and Pete kissed in real life?
What's you opinion on turn into a girl!bandom member stories or always been a girl!bandom member stories?
What does the future hold for popslash?
Does Pete have the prettiest smile, or what?
Is Lance happier now that he's out?

Dude, that makes me so happy you don't even know. I need fic about those two like burning.

Woo, good questions.

(1) I think they did. They were so close during the summer of like, with their little club and Pete posting about watching sunsets together. Pete seems to be someone that gets strongly invested in people, if he likes them he shows it and that could lead to kissing. Late nights next to the tour buses, something totally stereotypical and so Pete, kissing as they watched the sun rise. Hot make out sessions, because he thought Mikey was amazing and it's so easy to go from his head on Mikey's shoulder, to looking up and kissing his jaw. It just seems plausible to me.

(2) I don't mind them, but I think it's all too easy to write those kinds of stories badly. Because if you change into a girl that's one heck of a change in your world, and sometimes the characters seem too casual about it. I know if I woke up with a dick I'd be traumatised. There's also that thought in my mind why they wanted them to be girls. Why not use an OFC? Saying that though, in the right hands they can be wildly hot and funny.

(3)I think popslash will continue on nicely as a small fandom. Because I gather links for the newsletter I probably see more than a lot of people, and there's something being posted every week. People will leave, but newbies will arrive too. People stress about the group not being together, but media fandoms exist and thrive without source material. Still, it's inevitable the fandom will keep shrinking, I just don't think it'll ever disappear. It's like, if you'd asked me last year if I wanted to be active in another fandom, I would have said no. Now that answer would have changed. I imagine it would be the same for many people.

(4) He does! I have woe that more people don't see that.

(5) I think he is. I can't imagine how hard it must be to hide such a huge part of your life. Being able to be who you are is the most important thing of all, and he was denied that for so long.

My eagerly awaited Saturday sleep in was a bust this morning when I woke up disgustingly early and couldn't get back to sleep.

That sucks! I slept far too late today and in consequence have been feeling only half awake since I got up, of course it's incredibly dark and dreary so it's not ONLY the sleeping-late that's at fault for that!

Fandom opinions, hmm...

What's the most irritating cliché in bandslash stories? In popslash stories?
Is there any type of story you feel are missing in bandslash?
What's your honest opinion about Captain Jack?

It does suck. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't the only morning that I do get to sleep in. Man, dark and dreary days are the worst. Hope you wake up properly soon.

Popslash is easy. JC as a kitty. Man, I hate that so much. It's totally my pet peeve and I know I'm irrational about it. But, hate! Bandslash, no real cliches have jumped out at me yet. Oh wait. Patrick as this horribly insecure pushover. Yes, there's insecurities there, but he's not a body hating basketcase, and he's also wildly smart and can be snarky. He's not just an extension of Pete.

Peronally I'd love more h/c, not the badfic extreme angst ones. ( not that I wouldn't read those too, but you know... ) but well written stories with little things like Gerard looking after Mikey when he was ill with food poisoning. Just something simple, him sitting on the floor and reading articles from a magazine out loud and being all concerned but trying not to show it. Or Patrick fussing over Pete, giving him a cushion to put his foot on, and telling him to stop and rest already. Which doesn't really make sense as I'm so annoyed doing that myself at the moment, but I love that stuff so much.

I love Captain Jack. He's got some bad points, but over all, I think he's a good guy.

I love Captain Jack.

I haven't seen the new Torchwood episodes, perhaps we could watch them one day at Camp Sparkle? Since many of us going to be there the whole week we've got time to watch things other than sparkly stuff too. For example, I just bought myself Love on the Murder Scene and haven't watched it yet, we bandslash girls could get together one day and watch it and other bandslash footage!

I'm all for fangirling over MCR and I'm certain [livejournal.com profile] saba1789 and [livejournal.com profile] saffronra would be in favour of it too!

Oh yes, and last year Anna and I wanted to introduce people to the awesomeness that is Turlough and this year we could perhaps actually have to for it!

o.k here's my question: Do you really think the name of a pairing can affect the fic as a whole, being this at the end a bad or a good fic, just because of the name of the pairing?
(if for example the fic is branded as Joshtin instead of JUC).

And what are your policies about crossover between fandoms. Do you think this is pushing things two far? (if let's say... you made a crossover with... Gerard/Chris...). Ah yes, and if you EVER wrote a bandslash /Pospslash crossover what would that be about?

Ah yes. Which paring is for you the one that rings no bells for you? (popslash and bandslash and explain why :)
And that's it.

Oh, good question.

Obviously the pairing name can't affect how well a story is written, but the fact remains, pairing names do have reputations. Joshtin/JuC being the main one of course. I'll say this honestly, I'd have to be recced before I'd ever read anything labelled Joshtin. To me it means not so good fic. Which yes, is short sighted, but that label is gained by experience that Joshtin stories tend to be written in the same way. Which is a way I don't want to read.

So while the pairing name doesn't affect the quality of the story, it does make me pause about reading it or not.

Considering I've been writing Chris cross overs for Chris month, your question is at a perfect time :)

Sometimes crossovers can go too far, when the writer makes no attempt to show how the two people could actually meet. Sure, you can get around that with AUs or changing time lines etc, but I do need to be believe that these pairings can actually happen in some logical way. So say, JC suddenly dating Tom Paris from Voyager with no explanation of how that could happen. That would throw me from a story.

You know, I'd like to write a festival story. One where MCR were headlining and Chris was on one of the minor stages with Nigels 11, then they could chat backstage and hang out and discuss insane fans. It would have to be gen through, for some reason I can't wrap my head around a pops/bandom slashfic. Which is just weird.

Bassez does nothing for me at all. I'm not even sure why. I love JC, I love Lance, just not together. I see very little to support the pairing and while I'd still read it, and even enjoy, I wouldn't have that emotional connection.

In bandom it's Bob/Ray. Mainly because I haven't read any. If I find hot fic that may change.

You're right, that's VERY weird :-) What did you think about [livejournal.com profile] nafs' Nick/Patrick Moments Where You Can't Deny What's True?

Bob/Ray isn't a favourite pairing of mine at all but I've read a couple of REALLY good stories about it, the beginning and middle of the 'Nesty Verse, Absence Sort of Does Make the Heart (http://cimness.livejournal.com/2372408.html) and Worth It (http://cimness.livejournal.com/2382700.html) both by [livejournal.com profile] cimness (the last part is mostly Frank/Gerard with a light smattering of Bob/Ray, Conclusions (http://bexless.livejournal.com/667047.html) by [livejournal.com profile] bexless).

I think it's more me not being able to wrap my head around writing a pop/bandom slashfic than enjoying reading one. Which is most likely connected to the Chris month ficlets where I'm trying to justify relationships in a short amount of time, and gen is so much easier in that regards.

Once Feb is over with no doubt I'll change my mind.

I should have shame, but I still haven't read Nafs story :(

Thanks so much for all the recs! I know what I'm doing tonight.

but that label is gained by experience that Joshtin stories tend to be written in the same way.

ohhh, so you might say that most of joshtin fics are written in one way? I've never read anything labeled joshtin, but a while ago I read a wank about it and I was like "well, writers can have good days and bad days. Maybe the name of the pairing is being missjudged, but now I understand it isn't.
Interesting.

Considering I've been writing Chris cross overs for Chris month, your question is at a perfect time

ohhh please do write a crossover... yay! I so love crossovers! And that plot you just mentioned sounds really very interesting... as for he blending of the whole thing, yes, you are right. It has to be believable somehow. I really pause before reading a crossover or even an AU because those often are written with disregard for canon or a plausible explanation for the universe the boys are in.

as for the pairing that does nothing for you... I TOTALLY agree. I really can't see Bassez happening any time soon :P
I've read good stories of the pairing, yes, but the whole idea just doesn't ring any bells for me.

As for bandslash oh well, I haven't read a fic (go figure).... But I'm already planning a plot in my head with Gerard/chris... ahahaha.
I shouldn't of course. I should be drawing, but I guess writing ONE fic, doesn't hurt anyone... ahahaha

My immediate reaction is wanting to kick Mario on Chris' behalf.

The whole creation myth is so mixed up but the heart always remains that it was Chris who started the whole thing. He already had his solos taken away, he doesn't need his status as founder taken too.

I mean, JC is a huge part of Nsync, creatively he and Justin pretty much reigned supreme, but in no way did he found the group.

Mario is an ass for saying that.

I'll stop ranting at you now.

I guess I was going to be willing to give Mario the benefit of the doubt and think of him as just an idiot, but really, there's no excuse for getting something so basic wrong. So yeah. WORD.
