Feb. 16th, 2008 09:10 pmI get so invested in stories sometimes. Like just now, when I went to do something and James asked what was wrong because I had teary eyes, and it was because I'd just read a story and I'd been reading it for a while and Mikey and Pete were so happy together and basically, I'm a sap. It's a combination that often leads to beaming smiles and tears. Put the trickc story Absinthe Makes in front of me and I'll well up at the last line, every damn time.
Talking of OTP, which I was in a roundabout way. I have found that having at least one in an active fandom is a lot of help. It means I dive on any Mikey/Pete story, tab any Mikey/anyone stories, plus anything written by friends or recced by people I trust. In this way I can try and keep up at least. Of course, most times I'm still looking at multiple tabs, they just keep stacking up and I attack them when I have time. But yes, a very active fandom is still of the win.
Corey wanted to buy a shelf with his birthday money, so we headed off to Ikea today. Man, that place is huge. You walk in and you're like rats in a maze, forced to keep walking and follow all the other people shuffling along the arrowed paths, walking past all the cool furniture and trying to tell yourself you really don't need that box of 99p plastic forks. It doesn't help that it's over two floors, and then, they didn't even have any vegetarian hotdogs! Don't they realise the vegetarian hotdogs are a huge part of the Ikea experience?! I had woe I tell you! And a painful side as Corey got one of the skinny billy book shelves in the bargain corner, only £10 due to some scratches at floor level. It was also put together, which meant when it went in our car a corner was sticking in my side all the way home. No hot dogs, a sharp corner in my side. My life, it is hard!

Date: 2008-02-16 09:24 pm (UTC)Sadly we went past to get to the little cafe at the exit, the one with the awesome vegetarian hotdogs!, of which there was none. I still may be bitter *g*
But I agree, they do great stuff. Most of which is nicely affordable.

Date: 2008-02-16 09:27 pm (UTC)Your habits are very similar to mine. I too pounce on any Mikey/Pete story and usually any Mikey story (except the Mikey/Gerard), then follow recs for other pairings. I just wish people wrote Mikey more although I probably couldn't keep up if Mikey/Pete was as popular as Frank/Gerard.
Ikea! I bought my couch there and my desk and my table... I love Ikea, I must admit. Cool deal on finding the floor model!

Date: 2008-02-16 09:37 pm (UTC)I agree, more people should write him. Though saying that, he seems to do fine in the story numbers, and while he's not in that mega popular Gerard/Frank level, he does seem to be the fandom's like black dress, or bike if we're being crude. Which we're not, because Mikey is all about happiness, rainbows and unicorns *g*
Ikea does some great stuff. They just need to make more vegetarian hotdogs ;)

Date: 2008-02-16 09:33 pm (UTC)The bookshelf was such a bargain. The damage is hardly noticeable at all. So we pouched on it when we saw.

Date: 2008-02-16 10:47 pm (UTC)I've never had an IKEA vegetarian hotdog, but now next time we go I will have to try one :-)
(Did you get the email I sent a few days ago? I just wanted to make sure it got there okay.)

Date: 2008-02-16 11:13 pm (UTC)The Ikea vegetarian hotdogs are lovely. I was quite put out them not having any. So I went and refilled my pop twice instead of once. That'll show them!
I did. Sorry, I fail at keeping up with the important stuff.

Date: 2008-02-16 11:21 pm (UTC)I'm going to have to go and read the airplane bit now, I think. Which is fatal, because then I have to skip back to the earlier bits in South Africa, and then on to the TV appearance in Germany, and the next thing I know I'm reading the whole end bit from when Chris finds out that JC's family is coming and then it's suddenly six in the morning :-)

Don't worry about it. I just wanted to make sure it had arrived.

Date: 2008-02-16 10:52 pm (UTC)I don't have any OTPs in bandslash, but since I pretty much limit myself to MCR fics these days, or at least anything with Gerard, Frank, or Bob in it, it does limit the amount of potentially read-worthy fic a bit.

Date: 2008-02-16 11:11 pm (UTC)It's weird. The only OTP in bandslash I have is Mikey/Pete, but even then I'll happily read Mikey with anyone. So how valid that crossover OTP is I don't know. It's like Chris all over again.
Ah, but see. With you liking Gerard and Frank you're hitting the most popular pairing going. You must read flat out at times.

Date: 2008-02-17 10:51 pm (UTC)As somebody who assembled two bookcases with the help of three people just a few months ago, I can congratulate you on the already put together bookshelf. :) I've never been to an Ikea store though. People here make day trips to them, and I don't quite see the point unless you actually need furniture, which they rarely dp.

Date: 2008-02-18 12:37 am (UTC)I've heard that people day trip to Ikea stores, and while I do like the stuff they sell, not to that extent. Some people are just weird.
