Mar. 19th, 2008 07:23 pmMy mam went to Amsterdam this weekend, and she brought me back a hat. It's white with yellow snowflakes, woolly outside, fleece inside, has Amsterdam written around it, has ear flaps with fluffy pompoms hanging down from each flap and a fluffy pompom on the top. It's the tackiest thing ever, and also made of awesome!
There were a lot of great stories posted yesterday for JuC day. I'd encourage anyone to check out
juc_day where they're listed and settle in for a good read. Forget about sticking to certain pairings, new popslash is being produced, is being posted. That is fantastic!, so go and give those writers some love.
Now I've posted that story I can move onto something else. I'm working on a Kelly/Joey/Lance at the moment, and also have the idea for a MCR fic. The other day I told Turlough I'm ready to try something long in bandom, and I am. Something that features them all and has an actual plot, one beyond the Way love. The only thing is I don't really have anyone to throw ideas at in this fandom. In popslash I have a group of friends that I trust totally, and I'll often throw ideas at them, and if they're bad they'll tell me so. While I know they'll listen to me anyway, I know it's not the same if people are babbling on about something you're not really into. So I shall babble to myself.
Corey bought himself a ticket for a music night at the school tonight. So James will be picking him up from there in a few hours. Then no more school until Tuesday. Which is great because man, I need a lie in. I sat down to watch tv this afternoon, and woke up over an hour later. Oh, and talking about tv. I was catching up on some of the shows on my Sky box this morning, and OMG! How could they leave the Black Donnellys like that?! And I was not impressed with who was voted off in Project Catwalk at all!
Something went badly wrong with James' laptop. He downloaded the windows service pack 2 and the whole thing went screwy. He's been trying to fix it all day today. It's not going well, I may sneak in the shower before he throws the thing out of the window.
One more thing. Dirty Sexy Money starts here on Friday. Did anyone keep watching that? Is it any good?

Date: 2008-03-19 08:10 pm (UTC)I remember people talking about it when it first premiered, and then talk seemed to fizzle out. But it looks promising. So yes, I'll give it a go.
Oh man! I just realised what your icon says. That is fantastic!

Date: 2008-03-19 08:25 pm (UTC)I watched the pilot of Dirty Sext Money but wasn't impressed. I don't remember a lot, to tell the truth. Though I do remember that the twincest was strong in that episode. Which isn't so bad a memory, when you think of it.

Date: 2008-03-19 09:55 pm (UTC)There wouldn't be much use throwing fic ideas at me 'cause I would probably just be enthusiastic about them all - my ideas of what kinds of stories will actually work or not is sadly underdeveloped.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that James'll manage to get his laptop back in working order!

Date: 2008-03-19 09:57 pm (UTC)I love Dirty Sexy Money. They have a very short season, but it was pretty intriguing good writing and great acting.

Thankfully he managed to get it sorted, but man, it was touch and go for a while. What gets me is that the computer shops all quoted £80-150 to fix it, and he managed himself in the end.

I agree. I still have more to read too, but what I have has been great.

Date: 2008-03-20 03:46 pm (UTC)Actually, the idea I have right now is for a group AU story. We were talking about gardening services at Camp Sparkle, and I got to thinking if that could be used in a bandslash way.
I was thinking it's Ray's service, he started it with Matt, to pay for some equipment one summer, and since then they've done it ever since. Think of them in dirty jeans, Ray's hair pulled back in a messy ponytail as he mows the grass. Eventually he's got so much work that he needed a helper, which is where Frank comes in. Frank loves to do the ladder work, climbing up to prune trees and clean out gutters and Ray spends half his time worrying that Frank's going to fall out of a tree, again.
They get Bob, when Matt starts not bothering to turn up. Staying in bed and ignoring their calls. The day when Ray and Frank had to do a huge garden/pool combo on their own is the day they tell him that's it. They need someone reliable.
They ask around and discoverer Bob needs a summer job. He says he'll join them for the busy period and they find he's awesome at the grunt work, imagine him digging, arm muscles defined, hair pushed back with a bandanna, or chasing Frank with the hose pipe, squirting him with cold water.
So, one day Ray gets a call. Some guy saying there's been complaints because his grass is so wild, and could Ray's company come over and cut it. The guy says he'll leave payment in an envelope under the stone unicorn on the front porch.
Ray says yes, and when they get there they realise it's the creepy Way house. The one where the parents were killed/took off and left their two kids behind. Not that people ever see the kids, not for years.
See, Gerard is a shut in, living in his basement, and while Mikey has a job, he leaves early and comes back late. So people never see him.
Over the summer G keeps phoning with new jobs, always paying with the envelope under the unicorn. Which is weird, but as long as they do get paid things are fine. Even if they do look up sometimes and see a pale face watching them from the floor level window.
Anyway. One day one of them leaves something behind. Maybe Frank, I'm not sure yet. He goes back, and when he's looking for his phone/book/t-shirt, he bumps into Mikey who's popping home before going out.
They exchange some words, then Mikey goes inside. The next time they go to do a job the note has something added. Payment for mowing the lawn. My brother likes the little one's hair style
And it'll go from there. Corresponding with notes for a while, then one day they're working late and the door suddenly opens and there's Gerard with a tray of drinks. He smiles and leaves them. They leave them next to the door. Next time Mikey is the one to bring them and the chat a little before he entices out G.
I guess that's it. It'll be over the summer and be about the growing friendship between the Ways and the others, and also a romance between Mikey and probably Frank. Which will contrast with the Way POV parts which will be pretty dark and isolated as opposed to outside which is sunshine and friends.
Stupid? Yes/no?

Date: 2008-03-20 03:54 pm (UTC)You sound like me in terms of fic ideas. It's why I tell people I'm more of a cheerleader than a beta as I tend to like any idea that's shoved my way. But I've just babbled to sperrywink and A offered to listen, so I have help if neded now.
The laptop is fixed, thank goodness. I thought he was going to blow a gasket yesterday!

Date: 2008-03-20 04:11 pm (UTC)I want a scene where they entice Gerard out one day to help, and it's a disaster. He gets sunburned across his nose and he cuts the hose pipe with his mower and Bob just looks at him indulgently and tells him to go sit under the tree and draw already.

Date: 2008-03-20 07:03 pm (UTC)Plus the idea of a sweaty and hot Ray does things to me. I love the idea that he's the one who puts it together.
I also like the idea of the creepy!Ways. So adorable. And the notes under the unicorn is genius! That's such a great, unique detail! I can see Gerard trying to hook Mikey up with Frank through notes because Mikey is too shy/busy/unwilling to make the first move until finally he works up the nerve to meet them in person.
I also like your contrast of sunny and warm versus dark and claustrophobic. I hadn't even thought of those terms until you brought it up. THe Ways coming out into the sun! Brilliant!

Date: 2008-03-22 12:35 pm (UTC)Okay, questions. I was happily writing away when I realised age was going to give me problems. My original idea had Ray 17, but that meant Frank and Mikey would both be around 13, which seems a little young.
I could make Ray older. Maybe at college, and Frank and Mikey could be seniors. Bob a year older. This would mean Mikey was at school, not work, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Or, I could make that this is Ray's full time job, and Frank helps him and Bob out in the summer holidays, while Mikey has a summer job interning at eyeball.
Both could work okay. It's just whether I want Ray as a full time gardener, or a part time college student/gardener.
Not that it matters too much. The whole story is set over the summer, but still. I like to know these details in my head.
And yes, the unicorn will be a focal point of the story, with a flurry of notes, complete with Gee's little drawings *g*
THe Ways coming out into the sun!
Just the thought of that makes me so happy!
Thanks for listening to me babble on, it does help me fix details in my head.

Date: 2008-03-22 12:47 pm (UTC)That means the younger boys can be 17-18 and either be high school seniors or just out of school. Mikey could have an internship at Eyeball which involves going to clubs as well as a normal work day, so he isn't seen around until late at night usually.
The unicorn is so my favorite detail! I can picture it in my head so well and it being so incongrously cheerful compared to the Creepy Way House. *g*
Babble away! I'm so glad to be here for you as well as excited to see the ideas develop! I wish I had someone to do the same with in some of my other fandoms. My NCIS fuck or die story is totally stymied by plot. Unfortunately what I need there is not someone to bounce ideas off of, but someone to give me ideas.

Date: 2008-03-22 08:04 pm (UTC)You know, I'm totally here if you want to throw things at me too. Which sounds weird but you know what I mean *g* So if you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask.

Date: 2008-03-22 08:45 pm (UTC)I'll definitely keep your offer in mind. I usually end up either in the "I know where I'm going" or the "I'm completely stymied" camp, so I never know what to ask for in terms of help, though. By the time I need help I am at the flaily, inarticulate stage and just feel like throwing the unfinished story at someone and saying, "Make it work! It's hurting my brain!"
For right now, my Fuck or Die story is stuck in limbo. We're past the Fuck or Die part, and now have to deal with the consequences. Tim will be seeing a therapist, but refuses to deal with Tony on a personal basis; Tony is in complete denial about the whole thing and is just hoping Tim doesn't quit. How to bring those two together again is a complete mystery to me.
I have the germination of a case to follow, but no idea how to resolve it, and I have vague ideas of how to tie it into the Fuck or Die part, but nothing substantial, and I suspect it will resolve to early to completely get Tim and Tony over their emotional humps anyway.
So, yes, flaily.
