May. 6th, 2008 03:29 pmIt's one of those days. I've just spent ten minutes looking for CJ's user name in the S's of my info before remembering she changed it ages ago.
So, a writing meme gacked from
ihearthings_ii
What's the last thing you wrote?
It was a get well Ryan/Spencer ficlet for
duoshingami
Was it any good?
It was alright, I guess.
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
Oh wow. Considering I'd never written a thing before I started to write fanfic, it would be a The Sentinel story. Which yeah, is online.
Write poetry?
Nope
Angsty poetry?
Nope, again.
Most fun character you ever wrote?
I like writing JC, because you can take him in so many directions and still stay within canon.
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
I've often wanted to bash Lance with a stick while I'm writing him, which is everything to do with there being this expectation that he's a snarky genius which I find so difficult to write.
Best plot you ever wrote?
What are these plots of which you speak?
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
I unexpectedly killed Chris once, does that count?
How often do you get writer's block?
Not often, though I have a terrible case now, though only for what I need to write. I have a thousand and one bandom stories I could start writing right this instant. But that's not what I need to write. The popslash has dried up for me right now, which gives me woe.
How do you fix it?
Well, right now I'm doing pointless memes, and have spent almost an hour typing under 100 words and I may go whine at people soon. My friends, the things they have to put up with.
Do you type or write by hand?
I type. Writing by hand is alien to me now, though when I was writing Tints of Rainbow Hue I was so into the story I was actually writing it on the backs of scraps of paper while sitting in the car.
Do you save everything you write?
I have a folder filled with so much crap, you don't even know.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Sometimes. I have a popslash prison fic I'm determined to finish one day, so I keep looking at that every so often.
What's your favorite thing that you've written?
Boxes and Tints of Rainbow Hue.
What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
Comment wise, Tints of Rainbow Hue. I punched the air when I realised I had more than one page of comments. Rec wise, Boxes.
Do you ever show people your work?
Like, off the internet? No. I showed my best friend one of my stories once and she got squicked at a tame kiss. James isn't interested. So *shrugs*
Who's your favorite constructive critic?
I have a beta group.
ephemera
nopseud
vaudevilles
msktrnanny and
sperrywink I trust them totally, and I know if they say something's bad, it's because it is.
Did you ever write a novel?
Sadly, no.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
I've written Lance with wings, Justin as a band eating alien, and Justin the vampire killing Chris. So, yeah.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
Does hand holding count?
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
I don't know, I'll give anything a try.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
3
Do you want to write for a living?
Nope.
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
I got a letter published in the Beano when I was a kilet. I asked how many bones Gnasher ate a day. Hey, it was the highlight of my publishing career.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Right. Is that a pig I see flying by?
Ever written something in script or play format?
Nope.
What is your favorite word?
YAY! Sadly it doesn't get used in my stories a lot. I must change that.
Do you ever write based on yourself?
No one would want to read about me, so, no.
Which of your characters most resembles you?
None really, but I do identify with some of them. Which if you know me you'll probably know who.
Where do you get ideas for your characters?
They're beamed in from space.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Nope.
Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Happy endings, though I'm quite happy with a sad ending too, because sometimes life just doesn't work out how you want it to.
Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
No, and really. These questions are meant for people who you know, have an imagination.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Yep, I'm not a strong speller so I tend to check as I go on.
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
Why would anyone do that?!
Does music help you write?
Not at all. I can only write in almost total silence. I get distracted otherwise.
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
Well, certain people in rl sure did seem surprised when told I write gay porn about boybands.
Quote something you've written.
“I know,” Spencer says, and he does, because he’s heard this before. He knows Ryan’s words. The hate and the frustration and the knowledge that nothing ever changes no matter what you try. They’re not Spencer’s words, his thoughts or his emotions, but he feels them as keenly as his own.
Which is from the ficlet I mentioned above, I have comments to reply to, which is why I have it at hand.

Date: 2008-05-06 03:10 pm (UTC)It seems it's still up at the challenge site though, so if you want to torture yourself with vague Lynncest bad writing. It's here (http://twisted.vaguefic.com/shad.html).
Don't say I didn't warn you though.
Forgot to say, the challenge was anonymous at first, which explains the name.

Date: 2008-05-06 04:09 pm (UTC)How do you unexpectedly kill someone? Did one of your characters just up and kill him without your permission? :-)
Does hand holding count?
Totally! Handholding's very teenage-y and schmoopy! :-)
They're beamed in from space.
Cool!!
And something completely different:
My sister and I was in Nybro today, it's the nearest bigger town (if 10,000 inhabitants counts as bigger :-) and when we passed the library I'd to make her turn the car around and stop so I could photograph the sculputure outside it. It was a UNICORN!! Look:

Really? I find I'm exactly the opposite - I do most of my initial writing in pubs and coffeehouses, with headphones blaring. It forces me to focus. If it's too quiet I get twitchy.

Date: 2008-05-06 07:02 pm (UTC)oh yeah! Lance! *sigh* yeah he's hard to write - I've read fics where it was obvious the writer tried to have him be snarky, but really, he sounded like a bitchy teenage girl. (which-- okay, I guess sometimes it's not completely off, but not all the time, you know?)

Yep, so have I. He's a hard one to portray at times. Personally I just gave up on snark. Obviously he does all his good lines off the page in my stories *g*
