Happy Birthday wishes go out to both [livejournal.com profile] lazydwarf and [livejournal.com profile] luciamad I hope you both have fantastic days ♥

People that know this stuff better than me, explain what a one shot is in terms of storyfinding comms.. I thought it meant a one off story, but that doesn't make sense. Because do people really only want to read multi part epics where the total of each chapter is less than 1000 words? Wait, what am I saying? Of course they do.

I have such a love/hate thing going on with storyfinder comms. 1

I want to read epic length stories where someone gets impregnated by aliens. and someone steps up to be the baby daddy, but there's a crash and the baby is aborted so the boymomma loses his mind with grief and there's blood vomitting and then Mikey dies.

I'll read any pairing but I hate waycest, Gerard/Ray, Bob/anyone, Mikey/Frank and no Ray sex please, ewww. No stand alones, and it has to be rated G or above.

1 In which I mean I love them beyond reason really, and yes, I'd read that.

I love the "I'll read any pairing but..." part. Pretty much all that is left is Gerard/Frank, so why not just say you want Gerard/Frank?!?!?

In other news, editing is hard :(

I always understood 'one shot' to mean a single story rather than a series -- by series, I mean a set of stories each of which is complete in itself, but which are all set in the same 'world' with the same version of the characters. Not a single story posted as chapters.

But that might not be the right definition for bandom.

Also I'm confused. Is the person asking about a story they actually read before, do they expect someone to write it for them, or are they asking on the off-chance that there just happens to be an alien MRPEG with space-ships crashing and ass-miscarriages and blood vomitting and then Mikey dies?

... I so love how no matter who is involved with the aliens, there's the "Mikey dies."

(Because Mikey has to be the one to die in badfic. I have no idea why, but I see it so much I sort of suspect it's in the rulebook.)

I want to read epic length stories where Dean gets impregnated by aliens. and Sam steps up to be the baby daddy, but there's a crash and the baby is aborted so the boymomma loses his mind with grief and there's blood vomitting and then Dean dies.

NO WINCEST, WEECEST, DADDYCEST, RPS OR HET. Other than that, I'll read anything. No stand alones, and it has to be rated G or above.

Yep, sounds familiar.

Thanks! Already quite good as I am "sick" today.

Why's it got to be Mikey's always the one to die? Poor kid.

To me "one shot" definitely means a single story that's got absolutely no connection to any other story and there's no planned sequels or other stories in the same universe. I know I've come across it before in other fandoms but I can't remember exactly where, perhaps in crack_van recs. It's not really the same thing as a "standalone" 'cause that might take place in the same universe as other stories or have planned sequels.

The things people ask about in story finder/story rec comms can be so mindboggling. (Not to mention the idiots who ask for recs in finder comms and for specific stories in a rec comms - IF YOU CAN'T READ COMM RULES HOW ON EARTH DO YOU MANAGE TO READ STORIES?!!! Uhm, I might feel a bit strongly about this :-)

I think I read a SGA or Torchwood story like that, except there was no Mikey and he didn't die either. Woe. ;-)

It's interesting to see that they will read any pairing, though... *g*.

Your love/hate thing for storyfinders comms in which you mean you love them beyond reason is so not surprising! I mean, for someone who enjoys bad!fics so much, I think it'd expected, some of those requests are like mini bad!fics... and sometimes they actually do link to real bad!fics so, really, it was made for you, right? lol

Okay, so the person is expecting that this story has already been written? The mind boggles at the thought that two entirely different people would come up with that same idea.

I regularly end up tracking popstoryfinders posts, just in case somebody finds the story and posts a link!
