Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
More, a big chunk of that being Sound Tracking. My average length of stories seems to have gone up, though there's a lot of really short stuff in the list above.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
Man, this was the year I started writing bandom, so I didn't expect to write any of the bandom stories. This time last year I was writing comment ficlets and leaving them hiding in comments. Obviously things changed, and fast.

What's your favourite story (of your own) of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Sound Tracking ( the urge to call that Bob in Spaaaace! is overwhelming, just so you know ) I'm so proud of that story and I think it came out well. I also love Tints of Rainbow Hue, though that made me happy in the way I managed to get across what I was trying to say, because it's one depressing story at times.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
That has to be Sound Tracking again. I've always said I wanted to write something long, but was scared that I'd be unable to maintain a plot. That I ended up with something over 45k still astounds me. Plus, the story itself was pretty gritty. I killed people off, added in eluded to rape and torture and a bit of self harm, you know, as you do.

Like it Says on the Can was risky, too. I mean, I was pretty sure I wasn't about to be run out of fandom for writing a fic based on fetish, but I'll always remember writing the part where Chris describes how you can fuck a motorbike exhaust and thinking to myself. What the hell are you doing?

What did I learn? That I can write long, that you can write about nasty stuff without being gratuitous about it.

My Best Story
I have no idea. Some people would say the darker ones, others the light-hearted ones. What do you think?

Most popular story this year
Tints of Rainbow Hue. Apparently deeply depressed Gerard with a side of Mikey/Frank set around Ray's gardening firm is something people wanted to read. Who knew?

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe
My remix story, but isn't that always the case? Hi De Woe didn't do too well either, though that was my fault. I had no idea holiday camps weren't really known outside of Britain so people had no idea what I was actually talking about.

Most fun
Life in Miniature. Dude, Gerard and Mikey were bathing in a coffee cup, how can you not love that? Or Ten Rules for Looking After Mikeyway. I had fun thinking of those. Oh, and the Mikey/Frank/Pete I'm writing with Sperrywink, that's so much fun, though it's not done so technically it shouldn't be included, but it's my meme and I'll mention it if I want to.

Most disappointing
Eye of Sound. I hate writing sex so much, and I never do it well.

Most sexy OR Story With a Single Sexy Moment
Hello, did you not read what I just wrote above? I suck at writing sex, big style. Let's turn it to most mushy moment, and it's this.

“They are,” Frank says, and he looks around before bending down, and quickly pinching off a blue pansy. “For you.” He stretches up and threads the flower through Mikey’s hair, tucking it behind his ear.

Immediately Mikey picks another blue pansy, moving in close so he can place it behind Frank’s ear. “Thank you,” he says, and brushes a quick kiss against Frank’s mouth.

Hardest to Write
Years Unfold, because I still don't have a handle of writing Panic, and gah. There was a scene in Sound Tracking that nearly killed me off. Seriously, [livejournal.com profile] nopseud is a saint because I kept rewriting and she'd send it back because it still made no sense, so I'd try something else and by the end I was ready to chop a whole section out of the story and leave Ray on that damn planet. Which is where I wave my good betas are worth their weight in gold flag, because she wouldn't let me do that and kept pushing until it was right.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
None really, I mean, the popslash I'd been writing for years so I'm pretty set in how I see them, bandom is so new I didn't have any perceptions to change.

Most (Unintentionally) Telling
I don't know. Maybe Tints of Rainbow Hue, but for Mikey not Gee. Or Sound Tracking for hinting at the stories I love the most, but that's not exactly a secret.

"holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
Well, Also Contains Wax, Water and Evil which hints that Lamp is tying up Chris and having his wicked way with him. But it has to be Like it Says on the Can because I had Joey as a phonebooth fucker, Chris a motorbike fucker, Justin a mother fucker, JC a dolphin fucker and Lance a plushie fucker. Really that's setting the 'that's wrong' bar pretty high.

overall
It's been an interesting year. I started writing in a new fandom and took some risks about what I wrote. I'm still not the best writer out there and I still have so much to learn. It's going to be fun doing so :)

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I plan on writing more in the Sound Tracking universe. I promised the Mikey/Pete/Frank story which will carry on up the timeline to them kicking slaver butt as the crew of the Love and Death

I've two popslash stories I'd love to finish, too. They're both long and won't need that much to complete, I just haven't done so.

First though, I've started the most ridiculous hockey au ever. It's got more cliches than you could shake a puck at, but man, I'm having fun.

Bob in Spaaaaaace, yay! Go you, and you mad epic action story writing skillz.

Also, the reason that popslash is still the best fandom in the world is that you can call Like it Says on the Can gen, and no one would argue about that. :-)

Wow, you had an exciting writing year! I'd remembered most of your stories, but not all of them.

I would have to say Bob In SPAAAACE is your best story this year. It's so epic! But then I love Tints of Rainbow Hue and Richard of York... You make it hard to decide!

I can't decide whether o do this meme or not. It seems like so much work and decision making.

I love Bob in Spaaaaace! so much. Though it did make my, I want to write long goal obsolete. I'll have to rise the word count a little :)

I doubt I'd have written Like it Says on the Can in any fandom but popslash. I feel so safe here that I knew I could post without fear. And you know, technically I could have called it het, with the whole JC/Kate thing.

It has been an exciting writing year. Remember me freaking because I had one Mikey icon? Those were the days *g*

I know! It's so hard to pick, and I think those are the three I'd have gone for too.

You should do it, then I can wave my Mikey/Pete flag at you :D

I started writing in a new fandom this year, too, and it was kind of revitalizing. Half the time I didn't know what I was doing, and I think my early SPN stuff has some not-so-great characterization, but it was fun.

Which is the whole point. So I'm glad you had fun.

There comes a point when you realise that you have to stop eating leftovers and actually cook again.

But leftovers are so tasty!

I feel my pickled onion and cheese breakfast is that point.

Okay, I take your point :-)

The Year End Writing Meme:

You've forgotten one story, Bob and the Kittie Kats (http://turps33.livejournal.com/731129.html)!

You've written so many good stories this year. I like all of the MCR stories but I think my favourites are Sound Tracking and Tints of Rainbow Hue. (And possibly Bob and the Kittie Kats too.) Though the Gerard and Mikey stories are also lovely, all of them.

It's such a shame about Hi De Woe 'cause it's such a hilarious story (despite being JuC ;-) Also, one of the big reasons I read it was BECAUSE holiday camps are such a weird British tradition.

More Sound Tracking, wheee! And hockey AU, whoohoo!!!

Ahahahaha. Yes, leftovers are tasty, cheese and pickles too. Just maybe not for breakfast.

Dude, I totally forgot about Bob and the Kittie Kats. I'm so disorganised with this stuff. I really need to start tagging better, and get my site updated asap.

Gerard and Mikey, I love them so. When I get my pic for 1000 challenge I think it'll have to be those two, to keep the tradition going.

The only people that read Hi De Woe were those on my flist that tend to read most things that I post. I got no feedback from the actual challenge at all. Though the fact that it looked like trickc until practically the end didn't help I'd imagine. What I should have done was linked to the Butlins holiday camp site, but I really didn't realise that other countries didn't have the same kinds of thing. Which is totally my mistake.

Yes! I have such plans for more Sound Tracking verse, but first, the hockey au which is fluffy, cliched and ridiculous. Just what I need to write right now :)

It's also been fantastic to watch you explore the SPN fandom. The new fandom glee is always wonderful to see.
