Jan. 12th, 2009 11:25 amThe SiL had a birthday tea party yesterday. Lots of good food and hanging out at her house, where I got to design Bratz outfits with my niece -- let me tell you, I am a wizz at cutting out tiny skirts from sparkly paper -- and also discuss High School Musical with her. She's 6, thinks Troy is fantastic and was very eager to school me in the ways of HSM, especially as all I know about it is Zac Efron likes to have sex with the one with the hair, something that I didn't think would actually add anything to the conversation.
The thing I seem to be constantly writing for the newsletter? Lance: wants a reunion. If I had money for each time I wrote that I'd have a nice lump of cash.
I've signed up for the bandom big bang, and have a story idea even. The thing is, it's multi band with a heavy Panic focus, something that makes me very nervous. Oh well, challenges are called challenges for a reason. Plus, Mikey/Pete \o/
Dancing on Ice started yesterday. With that and Come Dine With Me my Sunday tv is set.

Date: 2009-01-12 11:30 am (UTC)Squee!! I'm excited already! More Panic fic for me! ♥ (I saw that you had signed up, I'm so impressed. I'm too chicken to do a Big Bang.)
You know more about HSM than I do. All I know is that Zac Efron *was* in it.

Date: 2009-01-12 12:04 pm (UTC)Gah, the story is all about the h/c. I know, you're surprised, right? With running away and hitch hiking and Pete and Mikey running a shelter and fights in parks and misunderstandings and just /o\
Everything I know about HSM I've learned from the flist, and now my niece. Strangely, the two don't seem to match up well *g*

So, Mikey and Pete both have their own demons which they've mostly conquered, but left them with a desire to make a difference. These early parts aren't solid yet because this is only background info for this story but between them they bought this house. It's run down and nasty inside, because that's all they could get for their pooled money, but underneath it's a good solid house. Together with their friends they started to renovate it, because they have this idea of running a home for lost teens, the age bracket that usually end up unwanted.
Of course they have opposition, because they're young and don't have much money, but what they do have is determination, so they work and clean the house and go on courses which will allow them to run a shelter.
They did think they'd have to give in at one point, when they were given a list of things they'd need to include, like safety doors and health and safety stuff, plus, the actual cost of running the shelter was high. But then Elena died, and Mikey used the inheritance he got from her. Not that Pete would let him at first, because that was Mikey's security blanket but Mikey added it to the shelters bank account anyway, and they fixed the roof etc, decorated bedrooms with warm beds and sturdy furniture and the communal areas with huge sofas and kitchen tables and a range with 6 burners and a shiny blank microwave and a top of the range coffee machine.
Problem was, they still needed more money, which is when Gerard insisted they use his money too. Of course they protested, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. That plus the donations from other friends meant they always have clean clothes and plenty of food for anyone that needs a safe place to stay.
Pete is the face of the shelter. He's always around for a chat or a smile, and he's got his own issues that mean he knows sometimes all you need is someone sitting quietly at your side in the dark of night.
Mikey is Mr efficient. He knows everyone and can get anything and he's always wandering through the house, coffee cup in one hand, phone in the other, a line of cats and dogs trailing behind him.
He doesn't talk as much as Pete, but everyone knows he's there for them and he's excellent giving hugs just when they're needed.
Dude, this is background info, you're going to be here all day.
Okay, the actual story.
Brendon is sent away to a camp to cure homosexuality. Bad things happen there and he eventually runs away. He ends up on the streets and one night finds himself in this park. Unfortunately he doesn't know it's a place ruled by a gang and he's in their territory, poor Brendon gets beaten up, but is then saved by Spencer and Ryan.
Spencer and Ryan have been living rough for a long time, after Spencer's parents died and he ended up in bad home and Ryan got him out and they ran. They've been hitching since then and the only good thing they have is each other. They're always hungry and cold and helping Brendon is a huge risk because they've learned not to trust, but they can't just stand and watch someone be hurt like that.
So, then there was three and they meet Mikey and Pete on one of the outreach soup kitchen programmes. Things happen and eventually a bedroom comes open in the shelter, except it's only a double.
At which point Brendon decides of course Ryan and Spencer need it and he runs away, again, and it's all a mess.
H/C all the way, baby!
The Sea AU *should* come in at more than 20k. IF I tell it right.
YAY!

Date: 2009-01-12 05:22 pm (UTC)And how exciting that you already have so many pieces of this tale in your head! I think your writing through from start to finish is very practical - because, yes, it does mean that you get through the sticky bits by aiming for the clearer scenes, but also because the linear approach encourages finished work. I tend to write the scenes as they grab me, which gets them out of my head and makes room for new scenes, but wrecks havoc on continuity.

Awesomeness will abound! [I'm getting terribly excited about this, more so the more we chat about it.]

Hee Terri Big Bang Fic to look forward to! Multi-band with a heavy Panic focus to boot; be still my heart! I know you have an army of beta already but if you need some help, you know where to find me!
Come Dine With Me... sounds like our Un Dîner Presque Parfait: five persons each invite and make dinner for the four others and at the end of the week the winner wins 1000€? Well, £ where you are but you know what I mean :-)

Date: 2009-01-12 12:25 pm (UTC)An admission. The BB comes from planning sessions I've been doing with Arsenic for a possible birthday fic for you. Which is why it's so Brendon and h/c heavy when normally I'd be all about MCR. It's sort of tailored for you.
And you know, I'd love your help. When I start I'll be bugging you for sure.
Yes! That's exactly that show!

Date: 2009-01-13 11:18 am (UTC)I love that show! I follow it whenever I'm home and it's on. Or I try to catch up on the omnibus every Saturday.

Date: 2009-01-13 11:39 am (UTC)I don't know. I may ask you to read along with this one and do something else for your actual birthday, because it feels wrong not to have something for the actual day. Plus, there's still lots of time yet :)
Yes! I watch the omnibus too, it's better that way.

Date: 2009-01-12 01:48 pm (UTC)LOL. I know. It seems like every other day there's an article on it. I love Lance like whoa but it's starting to really annoy me. It's like, if it happens it'll be TOTALLY AWESOME but I'm realistic about it. Quite frankly I think there's a snowball chance in hell of it ever happening. lol

Date: 2009-01-12 03:38 pm (UTC)Is it very wrong of me to feel a tiny bit sad to hear that your BB is going to be Panic focused? But it awesome that you've got an idea already!

Date: 2009-01-12 03:47 pm (UTC)It's not wrong of you at all because I know that you're not into Panic. I guess all I can say to make it a little better is there will be a lot of MCR. I mean, Mikey has a big part to play, and I couldn't write him without Gerard and Frank and Bob and Ray.

I was actually talking to Valya on the phone when I got this comment and was all 'BRB, gaping at Terri's comment for the next 5 minutes'. *g*
I really just can't see this happening. And I'm actually pretty content with having a silly little ficlet idea every other year or so :) .
