turpsI'm trying to be calm, but there's one person in The Sentinel fandom just now that I want to shake and shake until she resembles a freaking bobble head.

This girl, lets call her A, is on practically every list I'm on in TS. I'm not debating that she's enthusiastic but she can be a bit of a pest, and some of her views leave me reeling. This is the same person that stated that slash is only about the sex, which isn't a debate I'm getting into now, but lets just say I disagree.
I usually just ignore her but I was reading my list mails today and A totally went over the line. I belong to a small intimate list, it's an open one but the people on it tend to be friends. One posted that she wasn't getting much feedback, and could anyone suggest what was wrong with her work, because she was thinking of just writing for zines. Then at least she'd get a trib copy. Not an unreasonable post I thought, just someone asking for an opinion.
A posted back saying that the original post was only a way of trolling for LoC's. That K ( the poster) shouldn't admit she isn't beta'ed because who wants to read an unbetaed story, that the story was an AU and a WIP which count against it. That it wasn't labelled as slash or gen and made a big deal because at the top of the story it said it was dues for Sentinel Angst ( K had x posted), and no one would know what that group was. Also that K doesn't archive at 852 so no one would see her stuff and where she does have her stories ( skeeter I think ) kept going down and who wants to keep trying to get at stories.
Okay, she had some valid points but the way she expressed them! What makes it worse is until a couple of months ago A kept saying onlist she couldn't write. Then she did a short story and got it beta'ed on a TS beta list I'm on. She hasn't stopped writing the freaking things since!
I'm going to sound such a bitch but her stories are short and yeah, they get beta'ed for grammar but that's all. She has no right to pull the beta card.
Then on another list she expressed amazement that people complain that they don't get lots of LoCs as she gets loads for her stuff. Yeah, because they're so simple and numerous, I'd imagine they're of the 'loved it' type, which are okay but man, push yourself and stop with the virgin fucking Blair stories!
I'm sorry I'm going off on one but her superior attitude just grated on me, and she had no right to do that on K's own list.
The day she writes something over two pages and gets away from writing the same story every time maybe I'll respect what she says, until then, nope.

Date: 2003-09-23 01:41 pm (UTC)I agree with you, there was some valid point to what she said to K, but man, is it too hard for her to actually *think* of a better and nicer way to express herself? I also didn't really like the fact that she's actually bragging about her own LoCs. That seemed quite pretentious. And if she only writes ficlets, well, that's not so surprising. Maybe she should try to write a long and complex story- just for a change *shakes head* The thing is, there's nothing wrong with only writing vignettes/Ficlets/Shorties all the time, but she could try to show some respect for some other writers, then.
Which list was it, btw? Can you give me the URL? I mean, isn't it one of of the most 'famous' TS lists out there?

No, you'll be right. Her stories can be good, it's just the high handed way that she comes across sometimes. I suspect this could be me over reacting because sometimes her posts can seem...well superior I guess. The one about getting loads of LoC's seemed really condescending for example.
I'm willing to accept this could just be me being jaded. It seems like decades ago I was an eager newbie, but A doesn't seem to have much tact.
I hope she does have longer stuff and I'm proved wrong. I'll have to keep an eye out if she's in any new titles, and learn to cool down before posting *g*
