May. 12th, 2011 08:16 amThank you for the virtual gift
saxihighlandck. I like sweets that come with no calories. Almost as much as I like you. ♥
I woke up and my computer had auto updated, deleting the draft of a post I had in email. So briefly.
We've been to see Fast Five this week, and it was a lot of fun.
James had a hospital appointment which meant a lot of waiting. It was to see his hand surgeon and he's been discharged now and just has to keep an eye on his hands, so if they start curling in even more splints could be used instead of surgery. But that's something that may never happen so we're not worrying about it. That day we also went to the coast and then for a walk in the park, where I got to play on the xylophone and stick my head in the giant humming stone. Sadly I never found the perfect pitch to make the stone vibrate, and there's only so long you can be bent over, your head inside a giant stone, humming like crazy, before you start to feel weird.
Mam and Kayleigh aren't talking at the moment. What I need is a device to zap mam's phone so she can't use it when she's been drinking, which I guess means I'd turn it off at midday most days. Her view of events and reality remain consistently miles apart, one of the last lots being what happened the day Tex died. Which really isn't cool at all.
Things in the garden are growing like crazy, with the beans and courgettes vying to take the over-achiever award. Later on this morning we're picking up 6 more tomato plants, which suggests some rearranging will be going on this afternoon.
I've been doing the first edit on my BBB, which included making the very first scene readable after I'd hurriedly changed it just before needing to send in my first draft. Something I had to do when I realised it was in a POV that was never used again in the story. For such a small change it took a lot of chopping and changing, I suspect because I've had that first establishing scene written for ages, so altering it felt weird. But, I like how it is now, so that's good. I'm also in touch with my artist, and oh my goodness. I've been ruined for any other big bangs because I know I'll never get an experience as good again.
Then on Monday Saba arrives! And the preparation for Camp Sparkle goes into full swing. A week of sparkly joy with some of my most favourite people ever, though I am sad some familiar faces won't be there. Also, I need to find my tiara. Yes. Silver space bulls with red eyes \o/
Soon we're going to go pick up Tex's ashes. It'll be good to have him home. But for now, more editing. Maybe more coffee too.
ETA: I've been thinking. I'm rooming with
turlough at CS, obviously I need to use my best Mikeyway Disenchanted tactics and talk to her while she's sleeping. 7 nights and she'll be a Mikey wife for sure \o/

Date: 2011-05-12 04:34 pm (UTC)There is a lot to be happy about, though I've been a horrible slacker about editing today. But I'm about to change that right now.
Neve has this icon been more appropriate.
Date: 2011-05-12 04:04 pm (UTC)AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Um... I think that all the BBB editing has tweaked your brain, Terri. Essential natures can't be changed.
I'm glad the doctor's visit went well.
The mental image of you, humming madly away, is pretty awesome, i gotta say.
I've got that lovely picspam of your garden up to comment on - \o/ for plants! - and I do so love hearing updates. :D

Date: 2011-05-12 04:33 pm (UTC)I know she's not for swaying, but I'm still enjoying thinking how I could do so *g*
The humming stone is awesome. Sadly I was just that little bit short for the higher hole, so was stuck with the one half way down the rock.
The plants are wonderful, though it's so windy today I've kept the greenhouse zipped up today, so I haven't check on them yet.

Date: 2011-05-12 05:21 pm (UTC)The image of you with your head inside a big stone humming for dear life is totally hilarious :-)
It's only a week until we'll meet!!! But your sleep hypnosis ideas will be totally wasted on me. I'm made of much sterner stuff than that!! And just wait until I retaliate! You'll never be able to finish your BBB if I do!

Date: 2011-05-12 05:33 pm (UTC)The stone is fabulous. Apparently everyone has their own personal internal note that will resonate with the stone and give you an internal massage if you hit it. Of course finding that note is an issue, especially when you're bent double with your head inside a rock *g*
Yes! So soon! If I end up editing Gabe/Gerard into my BBB I'll be very suspicious.

Date: 2011-05-12 12:31 pm (UTC)It sounds like James is going through what my dad is. My dad was diagnosed with Dupuytren's Contracture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupuytren%27s_contracture) about ten years ago, about the same time he had to stop working on account of his back. Our surgeons said that surgery to correct the contracture could cause 70% loss of use in both hands, so it was best to just wait until he absolutely couldn't use them. He does a lot of palm stretches, and his hands are still serviceable, but he says there's a deep burning sensation in both palms as a result.
Good luck on your BBB! And have fun with Camp Sparkle!

Date: 2011-06-02 10:37 pm (UTC)Your dad's condition does sound like what James has, but James' is through his whole body and he's had arthrogrythosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthrogryposis) since birth. Both his arms are permanently bent and his hands, and it affects his back and legs too. That's why he had to have one amputated due to it turning around. But the stretching does help a little with his hands.
I had a blast. Thank you!

Date: 2011-05-12 11:25 pm (UTC)We're doing a birthday thing this weekend and Childthing and I will be seeing it for the second time. :D
Soon we're going to go pick up Tex's ashes. It'll be good to have him home. But for now, more editing. Maybe more coffee too.
Wait. What? What did I miss?

Wait. What? What did I miss?
We had to have him put down a couple of weekends ago. It was his time, but still. It was heart-breaking.
