Thank you so much for the virtual gifts, [personal profile] delphinapterus and [livejournal.com profile] brighton_girl

Also, I've been remiss in wishing some very lovely people happy birthday on time. So, happy belated birthday to [personal profile] lazydwarf, [livejournal.com profile] babycakesin [personal profile] stepps, [livejournal.com profile] sly_fuck and [livejournal.com profile] isweedan I hope you all had fantastic days ♥

Due to not being online much I missed my 30 days of fanfic yesterday, which sucks because I had a streak going. Oh well, you lucky people will just get two questions today instead.

Lately I've discovered the A Team kink meme, which is bringing me glee as I wrap myself in old fandom joy. Also, an A Team big bang *__* Which I'm not looking at until I've read the BBBs. So I'd say I'd get around to the A Team one sometime in 2017.

Talking of big bangs, my wave 2 is past 10k. I'm still not officially saying I'm submitting it as it was only taking the pressure off deadline wise that allowed me to keep writing it, and it's at that stage now when I'm reading and writing it and thinking, what the hell are you doing? But I'll keep chipping away.

RL wise, Corey had a great time at London, though when he came back we asked him what his favourite thing he'd done, and even though he'd visited a lot of cool places, stayed in a good hotel with his friends, what he replied was he'd enjoyed the plastic bottle fight that happened at the back of the bus and that one of the other boys bought a copy of Nuts ( a lads mag ) and spent a lot of the journey holding a poster of a scantily dressed woman against the window when any lorries drove past. Teenaged boys, they're sigh worthy at times.

Corey also had his parent consultation, where we were in and out within ten minutes and told the exact things we've been told since year one, and brought home his final year jumper which has to be grey instead of black.

James' job is going well and he's mostly enjoying the step up to take actual 999 calls, though it's a very high-pressure job with some heart-breaking/nasty things to listen to. It's a job where you have to develop a thick skin fast or burn out. His shifts are all over the place too and I hope that settles down eventually, as swapping between days and nights is hard going. After a day shift on Tues and off yesterday he's on nights tonight, so we'll be heading out soon for the morning and then he'll sleep this afternoon.

Now meme catch up time.

21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

Yep, and I love them. My problem is I get these ideas that are too big for one story. Or more accurately, too big for me to write in one story as I haven't the discipline or patience to write long enough to get in everything I wanted. Most of my stories have back stories and future events planned in my head, it's just a case of whether I write them down. Like for When Day Is Night Alone, I know how Clan house was built and how Mikey and Pete actually got it established and how they met the others. In a more vague way I also know what happens after.

So yeah, I'm always open to sequels, the only verse of mine that I wouldn't write more in is Tints verse, not because I wouldn't want to write more, because I love that verse, but because that story is finished, and adding more would dilute what I have.

22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

And again, yes. In popslash most of my stories were written for challenges, and while I don't do that so much in bandom I do write for a good amount. I've also written for two big bangs, the rpf big bang and this years BBB. It's the last that's my favourite experience. I got to talk to [livejournal.com profile] squashbee who's an amazing artist, and while I cut the deadline for the rough draft really close I enjoyed the actual writing of the story. It's also a story stuffed full of my favourite things to read and write about, so I got to enjoy total self-indulgence.

Right, things to do now and then some writing as I have a date reading a bbb tonight.

Teenage boys really are a hoot! (Daughter's not quite a teenager yet, but I'm already seeing that having a teenage girl in the house is going to be quite different. . .)

I feel the exact way you do about sequels. Particularly when I write AUs or futurfic (anything that deviates significantly from canon) -- I spend a lot of time thinking about the world and how things got to where they are and a lot of that doesn't make it into the original story. So it's fun to find a way to get that down and it helps me jumpstart my process because I've already done that thinking when I start to write the sequel. . .But I agree that there are some stories that need to stand alone for maximum impact. . .

Boys! I bet they would have been just as happy with a bus trip around town at home ;-)

I'm happy to hear that James job is going well. I can't imagine how he stands it, it's the kind of job that would be my worst nightmare to have, but I'm glad he does because it's really important. I hope his shifts settle down soon though, it must be really exhausting having to change gear like that all the time.

I need to re-read Tints 'verse soon, it was ages since I read it last. It's so good!

I hope you got some reading in tonight. I've managed to read two BBBs in the last couple of days and right now I'm trying out the superhero/mutants one.

I managed to finish the superhero/mutant one but the ending was so disappointing I kind of wish I hadn't. I've just started the Killjoys story and hopefully I'll manage to finish it by Sunday evening.

Teenage boys are something else. Well, teenage girls too. But I grew up with girls so . . .

Wow, I'm in serious admiration of James. I couldn't deal with seeing so much of the bad (even though I know he sees a lot of the good too.)

Also, word on having bunnies that are bigger than the fic you write (hence the need for sequels.) I tend to write at a regular speed when I don't have a deadline so it takes me ages to get to a sequel for any of my fics. Hmm.

Good for James - it must indeed be a stressful thing, and I am sure it'll be a lot easier to deal with when his shifts do settle into a coherent pattern. 999 calls + not enough sleep = :-(

It's been a steep learning curve going from the minor number to major. One of his first calls was someone saying he was going to jump from a bridge, and then did so when James was on the line :(

I'm hoping the juggling of shifts will stop once there's no extra training to do.

James' job sounds a bit like mine. Crazy shifts and thick skin needed. Good luck to him.

Yeah, you both have to take a lot of crap. He's not allowed to hang up on abusive calls either as they say people get stressed in emergencies so act out.

I think you're both amazing for doing that kind of work.

We should have saved some money and sent him and his friends off on the bus for a day.

Laughing so hard at the Corey tale - seems typical of boys!

I now feel as if I am stalking you around fandoms as have got all excited and gone to look for the A-Team stuff - I haven't seen the film (yet) but I still maintain that the 80s series is a classic! Looking back with slash googles on, it's Face and Murdoch all the way for me :-0

Teenaged boys are stereotyped for a reason! *g*

YES! Face/Murdoch always! One of my earliest fandom experiences was hanging on the A slash mailing list. I loved it on there.

I'm glad James is enjoying the new job! I don't think I could do work like that, though. Very emotionally exhausting.

Oh, Corey! Heh.

It is emotionally exhausting, but he's liking it so far. Though missing his weekends off.

Boys. They're so weird sometimes *g*
