Jul. 30th, 2011 02:25 pmThis is the last thing I should be doing as I have a stupid amount of comments to reply to, just as many emails and a BBB to finish. But at the same time, I love this kind of meme. The kind where I get to think of stories without the effort of actually writing them.
The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) or another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.
And man, I am the dumbest, I just realised it's type or time period. I thought a space opera set in ancient Rome was a strange combo.

Date: 2011-07-30 03:03 pm (UTC)The story would be set around the bandom squadron, one that's not really rated by the high-ups. Not due to a lack of ability, more it's full of people who take too many risks and have issues with authority.
The unofficial motto of the squadron is 'Live fast, die young' and it's a motto they all embrace. From Gabe with his purple scarf wrapped around his neck to Ryan, one of the new transfers who's convinced he's going to die before he's 21.
They all live together on a base, they sleep in the same huge dormitory, eat together and party hard, but are always ready to take off when needed.
They're all aware that life is cheap and they live every moment. Rigging up speakers to a gramophone so crackling music fills the base, music that always gets sung along to, Gerard joining in where he's painting his fighter yet again, Ray adding harmony as he helps Bob weld a repair.
They're the misfits of the force, the people that didn't fit in elsewhere, but together they've made a family.
It's why they always touch hands when they head out on a mission, why Gerard always hugs Mikey and says he loves him and Spencer tells Ryan he's not going to fucking die, he's not before they climb into their separate fighter planes.
Then the pilots take off, and all the people left on the ground can do is wait, hope and pray that this time they'll all come back.

Date: 2011-07-30 03:31 pm (UTC)Okay, so this is a story set around Spencer, who's training to be a paramedic. He's only starting as a tech but still, this is a big deal and no matter how he tells himself he'll be partnered with someone who knows what they're doing he's still really nervous.
He's wearing his new uniform and he's got the name of his new partner memorised and his heart is thundering when he goes to sign in.
His first day doesn't go well. All the school and training in the world doesn't prepare you for being called a fucking asshole by some drunk with a head wound, he's had to clean up blood and puke and piss and try and comfort a mom whose baby is having a fit.
Spencer's out of his depth and by the end of his shift he's exhausted, nauseous and wants to go to the nearest private place to cry. he nearly does when his partner, who's spent most of the day barking out orders says, 'Not bad, Smith.' and Spencer thinks Bob may not be so bad after all.
Still, one brief moment of praise doesn't change the rest of the shitty day and Spencer's ignoring all the texts from Ryan and his mom and just wants to go home already.
But first he needs something to eat because he hasn't had lunch, so he hits the small shop in the lobby and buys a chocolate bar, and when the guy behind the counter, Brendon, smiles and says, "Cheer up, things could be worse.' Spencer barely resists telling him to fuck off and leaves without getting his change.
Then the story would go on with Spencer learning the ropes from Bob, and he'd make friends, becoming part of the group when Bob finally decides Spencer's okay and takes him to the part of the hospital where his friends gather. Mikey the nurse and Vicky T the junior doctor and various other people who come and go.
And all the time Spencer goes and buys stuff from the shop and eventually starts to actually talk to Brendon, a thank you at first and then replying with small talk until eventually Spencer says sorry for being an ass on the first day, and Brendon shrugs it off by saying, you can make it up to me by buying me a coffee.

Date: 2011-08-03 03:31 pm (UTC)When Gabe set up his spy agency he only recruited people who were 9 or up on the telepath scale. It means the team he does have is small but elite, but along with being elite comes problems.
So many high ranking telepaths together leads to issues of privacy, because though they've all got amazing control, it's impossible to hide every thought always. That's something that some can't deal with or else finds uncomfortable ( sometimes Gabe wishes he had a team full of Ways who share their every thought with each other, then he thinks of having multiple Ways and quickly changes his mind )
Some fine tuning and Gabe's ended up with people who don't mind leaking thoughts and are closer than close. It's how it has to be, if your worst secrets leak you need to be with someone who won't take advantage. It's why Gabe has a team who'd die for each other, and why sometimes he has a headache as he listens in to multiple minds chatting at one another.
The story begins when Gabe's contacted to infiltrate a police force and root out a cop that's gone bad. It's a job they've done before and as always he sends in his team under several guises. Bob wearing the uniform of a rookie officer, Spencer the janitor, Ryan in admin.
By rotating roles there's someone in the station at all times, passing on their observations as they read the minds of the people they pass.
But in the end it's Gabe that uncovers the bad guy. It's a chance thing, Gabe getting coffee when he feels the itch of anger at the back of his mind. Sending out feelers to his team, he quickly finds out its none of them, and he looks around, trying to see who's leaking so much anger.
Narrowing it down to a guy drinking coffee at one of the table, Gabe takes the next one, and carefully probes his mind, finding out that he's set a series of bombs in the police station, ones that are about to go off.
Mentally screaming a warning to those inside, he tells them to get out, even knowing they won't. It's why Gabe's running toward the station himself even as Spencer, Bob and Brendon are pulling the bombs locations out of Gabe's mind and running to disarm them.

Date: 2011-08-01 09:35 pm (UTC)Okay so.
When Frank first gets a job as an editor it's one of the happiest days ever! He loves words and has thoughts of being buried in books, lazing in a patch of sun as he points out mistakes with a highlighter.
Of course it's not like that at all. He gets all the shitty books to edit, and an endless tide of them at that, and ends up spending far too long hunched over his computer, first editing and then doing battle with the writers who never want to accept his changes.
When he gets landed with a load of new books -- romance books even D: -- Frank wants to bash his head against the nearest hard object.
For the next few weeks he reads countless thousands of words about swooning heroines and dashing heroes and has seen so many sappy sex scenes he could vomit.
Which is why The Day of the Devilment sticks out. Frank's not sure of the title and he's expecting yet more sparkly occult crap when he finally starts to read, and finds out the book is actually quite good.
So Frank keeps reading and sending his changes to Michelle Way, and also a question. 'Your hero listens to The Misfits while driving? Really? Which is an awesome choice, yeah, but not really th target audience's choice of music.
Anyway, the story goes on with 'Michelle' answering Frank's questions, and they get into this online friendship where they're talking most days via email. Mostly book related at first but eventually becoming more personal.
Which is when Frank gets an email reminder of a party for the publishing house, and he decides to ask Michelle if she's like to meet there.
And then 'Michelle' stops replying at all.

Date: 2011-08-03 03:07 pm (UTC)Okay, so, this is the story of the Way brothers and their family owned diner.
It's a place that's been in their family for generations, and they both grew up working there part time, learning the ropes until they were old enough to take over completely.
Which they did a few years back. Now their parents are off travelling the world and 'The Way Home' is Mikey and Gerard's only.
They both like it there, and Mikey makes a mean hamburger while Gerard is king of the milkshakes. There's always music playing and the locals are used to seeing Gerard prancing around as he delivers orders, though the knee crawling did raise some eyebrows at first.
Every lunch time the same people arrive. Ray from the Hop and Shop grocery store and Brendon coming in to eat while Patrick minds Ding A Lings music store.
The diner is always decorated in some way, skeletons at halloween and rabid bunnies at Easter and there's pictures of Mikey everywhere, all drawn by Gerard.
One wall is completely painted with blackboard paint and the Ways only censor what's left there if it's something mean. Not that it happens often, because everyone knows everyone else in this tiny town.
And then a stranger arrives. Frank's on a solo road-trip when he realises he's about out of gas. Pulling up at the nearest town he fills up and then calls in at the diner.
Taking a seat in one of the booths he's aware he's being watched by everyone in there, and then some guy comes up, pours coffee without asking and then waits for Frank's order.
Quickly, Frank scans the menu which is on boards propped up next to the counter, and orders a basket of fries.
The guy nods and wanders away and Frank's left to watch as he tells the order to the cook and then goes and sits with some other customers and start to talk.
Frank feels a little lonely because he's been driving for days now, but that's okay, so he drinks his coffee and watches the cook who seems to be dancing with a spatula. Which is weird but rather endearing, especially when he sees Frank looks, grins at him and then tries to theatrically spin the spatula in the air, and fails, making it drop to the ground.
The story goes on and Gerard brings over the fries and slides in the booth too, and starts to talk, and Frank finds him really easy to talk to and before he knows how it's happened it's late and there's no way he'll get to his planned stop on time. So he asks about motels and Gerard tells him that Jon runs a B&B on the outskirts of town and it's good as long as you like cats.
And anyway! It ends with Frank sticking around for a while, helping at the diner when Mikey manages to burn his hand on the grill when he tries to rescue his phone when it falls out of his pocket. And he starts to fall for Gerard but is sure it's a one way thing until he goes to the diner for breakfast one day and Gerard is extra flaky, spilling coffee and giving Bob Ryan's egg white omelette and Frank's looking at him and thinking, the fuck? when he finally sees the message on the blackboard wall that simply says, "Frank, want to go out with me?'

Date: 2011-07-30 02:19 pm (UTC)Okay, so, in this story werewolves are an acknowledged group in society, but also ones that are a little apart. Despite the laws that state that weres have the same rights as humans the reality is those laws are often ignored. It's why so many of the werewolves take jobs off planet. It suits them just fine, it gives the solitude that they need on occasions, but also the adrenaline rush too.
On the edge of the alpha quadrant there's a space station that's run by a were. It's a place where fights break out often and the voices are loud, the furniture and fittings solid and claw proof. Each day multiple space craft dock, crews coming to meet up with friends and get some R&R.
Pete's in charge of the bar. A bad change on a hostile planet means he's stuck in half wolf form, his hands clawed and feet too big, his shoes have holes at the front for his nails and when he walks you can hear him tapping close before you see him. When he smiles his teeth are sharp and pointed. Pete smiles often, except when he doesn't and spends hours at a view port that faces Earth.
If any were's space travel they have to take medication to regulate their change. It's not the best method and none of them like going to the planets with multiple moons, when they have to -- when too much money is offered or on occasions, to regain those who've been taken -- it feels like they're always shifting under their skin, and those journeys are always silent and something to be endured.
They also take meds to bring on the change. The pills get called 'moon caps' and no one really knows how they work, just when you take one it's like the barrier that's been keeping back the change is ripped away. Unlike on Earth a med change is always fast and brutal, but none of the weres care. They just get to a safe place, take their moon cap and for a while that itch under their skin is tamed.

As they walk Mikey talks of all the great wrestlers and how maybe he could wrestle himself one day. Gerard always encourages his dreams, even though he's well aware that Mikey would be defeated in seconds.
On their journey they meet other travellers, all heading for the games. At night they sleep outdoors and talk about how great the stadium would look and how four years ago one of the chariots had spun out and killed a group of spectators. The stories getting wilder and more gory with each telling.

Date: 2011-08-03 01:03 pm (UTC)So okay, total self indulgence coming up. Just so you know.
Pete Wentz is a successful musician, FOB is a huge success and he's on the top of the world. Except, for someone who should be wildly happy, sometimes he's just not.
It's in one of those dark periods he gets in his car and decides to just drive. Except when he does so he ends up spinning off the road and into a tree. Hours later & he's found, unconscious and badly hurt.
Taken to the nearest hospital they battle to save his life. It's touch and go for a while, and he's in a private room, a guard at the door as his friends and family start to arrive.
The headlines scream 'Pete Wentz in suicide attempt' and Patrick nearly punches a reporter who gets in his face about Pete having a death wish.
Mikey is one of Pete's nurses. Mikey's not a natural nurse, it's not something he ever planned to get into, but after seeing Gerard battle and win his own addictions, Mikey knew he needed to get out of the scene. So he went off and joined nursing school, and discovered it's a job he actually loves.
He likes talking to people and he's still loves music, so of course he knows who Pete is. That's something he keeps in mind as he's taking care of him, changing dressings and the multiple other things that need to be done for someone who remains unconscious.
Mikey also has to deal with Pete's band, and the group of fans who're holding a vigil outside the main hospital doors. He gets used to being grilled by Patrick and reassuring Pete's mom, and then at the end of his shift goes back to his tiny apartment.
The story goes on with Pete getting better, and all the time Mikey talks to him, about music and general stuff at first, and then after Pete's been there a few weeks they're at the stage where Mikey's telling about his family and friends, how Gerard's putting on his second art show and how Ray and Frank are thinking about starting a new band together.
It gets to Mikey being one of the highlights of Pete's day, and when Mikey goes onto night shift they talk even more. It's then that Pete suddenly tells him 'I didn't try and kill myself, I hadn't been sleeping and wasn't taking care, it was an accident' and Mikey would just say, 'I know'
Meanwhile, Mikey's telling Gerard about Pete, nothing specific that would be an issue about patient confidentiality, just that he's a nice guy and Gerard sees that Mikey likes him, but Mikey blows him off when he mentions it because Pete's a patient, nothing else.
Pete keeps getting better, to the stage that he's cranky and hating being in bed and for once he's got no visitors and Mikey's about to go off shift when he goes into Pete's room, sees he *really* needs distraction and asks him if he likes Star Wars, & they end up having a marathon, sharing lime jello and using some of the countless flowers that fill Pete's room as light sabres.
Then Pete gets discharged and needs to get back to his own life. He's got business to sort out and band stuff and even though he's better moving still sucks so he's flustered and doesn't realise he hasn't left a note for Mikey until he's been pushed out in a wheelchair.
So the first Mikey knows he's gone is when he turns on the TV and sees a news report of Pete throwing up heart hands at his fans before getting into a car.
Mikey's just standing watching when Gerard comes behind him, wraps Mikey in his arms and says 'his music sucks anyway' and Mikey just goes, 'no it doesn't' and Gerard goes 'yeah, it doesn't.
And that's that, except a few weeks later Pete sends gifts to the staff that helped him. Candy and a new TV for the staff rooms and all sorts of stuff. And the guy who's delivering the stuff looks around comes up to Mikey and goes 'this one's for you'
Mikey opens it and it's a card saying, call me, followed by a number.
And Mikey does, and they talk and IM and he tells them about Ray and Frank getting together and how Gerard's show is a success and how someone threw up on Mikey last night, and thinks that's as far as it'll go.
And then one day Mikey's leaving the hospital after his shift, and he's tired and hungry and just wants to get home. When a car pulls up in front of him, and the door opens, and Pete gets out, smiling as he says, "Hi, Mikey Way."

Date: 2011-07-30 03:58 pm (UTC)Mikeyway as an opera singer in 1700's Venice. Bonus points if he meets Casanova.
(No, don't ask where the idea came from. Because I seriously don't know, LOL.)
no subject
Date: 2011-08-03 02:28 pm (UTC)Okay, so the only way I can imagine Mikey being an opera singer is if it's something that happens in private at first.
So, we start with Gerard training to be part of the opera. It's something that he's passionate about and spends hours practising, both with his teacher and at home, where he lives with his brother.
Mikey is one of the darlings of the social scene. Handsome and witty enough that his company is always sought out, he enjoys entertaining the young people of the court ( the ladies in public, but gossip states that young Michael also enjoys the company of young men ) He also spends a lot of his time with Gerard, encouraging him as he practices and always telling Gerard that he will get a part in the opera.
What no one knows is that Mikey is also an accomplished singer, but the thought of standing in front of an audience brings him out in a cold sweat, so he sings for pleasure only.
This goes on for a long time, until some patron of the opera hears Mikey sing. Falling in love with his voice she approaches the school and asks who was singing in the practice rooms, and the school tells her it's been booked overnight by Gerard.
Of course, Gerard had left to do chores, and when he's approached and told of that someone is bewitched by his voice he's puzzled, because he knows he wasn't there. In fact, the only person that remained was Mikey.
Accepting the compliment, Gerard confronts Mikey, and at first he's hurt because Mikey tells him *everything* and all this time he's been hiding he can sing. Eventually Mikey makes him understand that it's not because of any bad reasons, just Mikey doesn't want to sing in public, but Gerard goes, please, for me.
So Mikey sings, and from that moment on works on Mikey's confidence, telling him he must sing at the opera.
And Mikey does, nothing too grand, just a small gathering of the woman and some of her friends, who of course are important in the arts world. Included in those friends is Casanova, who seeks out Mikey after he's sung and hands over a single flower.
Mikey gives him a look, because men just don't receive flowers, but all Casanova does is kiss his hand and tell him he should be showered with flowers over, and could he please have the pleasure of Michael's company at dinner.
A brief hesitation, and Mikey says yes.

Date: 2011-07-31 06:13 pm (UTC)Okay, so it's set in space because, space AU!
Fleeing from his home world when the government announced every human would be tracked at all times, Pete ended up on a planet on one of the busiest trade routes. With no credits to his name he sold on his belongings, and bought an old space cycle, one of the early models just powerful enough to circle the planet.
Sleeping outdoors, it takes a while but eventually he finds others space bikers, a whole gang of them who roam in a group for protection and survive by smuggling goods between the planets of this system. It's dangerous work, while the space bikes are small and responsive that doesn't help when you're flying through the meteor showers of Aptu or when the authorities are on the look out for stolen credits.
But Pete loves what he does. He's got friends who have his back always and loves to race through the tunnels of Ahamito canyon, Brendon looking back and laughing when he reaches the end first.
They sleep together for protection and go on jobs in small groups and for the first time in his life Pete's happy. Until the day there's a crack down on smuggling, and an authority robot flies into the space bikers make-shift camp.
Tearing down the tents, it fires lazers, taking out Ryan's bike and he jumps on the back of Spencer's, taking off with Brendon and Jon beside them, providing covering fire as Gerard tries to get away from where his bike's being held down by a metallic hand.
About to turn and help, Pete has to keep going when his own bike is clipped, the protective bubble destroyed, the wind tearing at him as he hurtles forward out of control.

no subject
Date: 2011-07-30 09:27 pm (UTC)Bandom grifters.
Okay!
Gerard is the leader of the group of grifters and always states that the only jobs they'll do are to help people. Of course, what he doesn't say is he's also helping the people in his gang by taking them in and giving them a place to stay.
If Tom's out taking surveillance photos he's not starving in his freezing apartment. If Pete's chatting up a mark he's not trapped in his own head. Everyone in Gerard's group is a little fucked up, and that's fine, because it just means they help each other always, the trust between them all becoming more solid over time.
So, Gerard is contacted by someone who's being blackmailed. The guy is a big name in the business world and somehow his rivals have found out he's dating a much younger man, and then gone out and taken pictures, demanding big money/information or else they'll tell the world the businessman has a taste for young hipsters.
The client turns up, Ryan in tow, and he blusters as he tells Gerard that he has to find out who the blackmailers are, and then deal with them severely. When Gerard tries to protest that they don't do things like that, the client yells that for the money he's expected to pay Gerard, he can and will do what he says and no way is he going to be taken down for the sake of a piece of useless eye candy.
Which is when Ryan sort of flinches, just barely, but Gerard notices and suggests that Mikey takes Ryan while Gerard talks privately to the client, who is fine with that as he thinks Gerard is about to talk hit man rates or something.
Anyway! Mikey would take Ryan into the kitchen and give him coffee and food and then just ignore him until it's time to leave and then say, 'that guy is an ass' and Ryan would just shrug and say that at least he's got a roof over his head and something to eat.
And then they find out who's been taking the photos -- and Gerard goes to see him, wanting to know who hired him. But Jon refuses to say and then says that Gerard's client deserves to go down anyway because he's a scum bastard and he shows photos where Ryan's being knocked around.
Furious, Gerard asks for copies, and also tells Jon to give him a call if he ever wants work that's less seedy, and then Gee goes to his client and gives him the photos and says he should be ashamed about what he's been doing and to take this as a second chance. And the client just snorts and says there's going to be no second chance, because Ryan's out of there when they get home. Which is obviously the first time Ryan's heard that.
And he ends up on the street and blames Gerard and refuses to talk to him, or any of the others, but Gerard feels guilty, and also instinctively knows when someone is meant to be part of their family, so he keeps sending people to talk to Ryan, until eventually, freezing, wet through and hungry he comes back and says he'll stay for one night.
And never leaves \o/

Re: MCR
Date: 2011-08-03 01:43 pm (UTC)Ray always knew he'd become an assassin. Living in a family of assassins and spies it was a matter of when and not if. By the time he was a teen Ray could already handle a gun, by the time he was 15 he was one of the best shots out there.
With his friendly nature and crack skills Ray was soon in demand, enough that he started to put together his own team. It was something his family supported, his dad and brothers looking on proudly as Ray assembled some of the best.
Frank who never gives up, will run down a mark for as long as it takes and is never afraid to get his hands dirty.
Gerard with his grand plans and critical eye. He's the master of a blueprint and showy explosions.
Mikey, one of the best at getting up close. He can be discussing movies with someone one moment, slipping poison into their drinks the next.
And Bob. Bob who.... Ray doesn't like to think of him.
It's one of the reasons Ray's thinking it's time to give up. None are getting any younger and the game never stops. There's always new assassins pushing behind them, looking for jobs and it's exhausting to stay on top of every new technique, to always be ready at a moment's notice.
Ray wants to settle down with his wife, watch TV and play his guitar and not have to worry about car bombs and if this time is the time Gerard won't outrun his explosions.
Then Ray gets asked to do one more job. It's a big one worth big money, but more than that it'll take down a company who think nothing of destroying land and exploiting their workers. All they have to do is get into a party and take down the big boss. Which should be easy, it's nothing they haven't done a thousand times before. Mikey goes in and delivers the poison, Gerard and Frank create a diversion, then they all slip away as the boss starts dying.
Except this time things go wrong. Mikey's caught before he even gets close, and Ray knows they've been set up, and he knows things are about to go bad. They've planned for situations like this, if someone gets caught the others regroup and decide what to do, but this is Mikey, and before Ray can say a word Gerard's running to save him.
It ends in stalemate, a gun at Mikey's head and Gerard pointing his own gun, all Ray can hope is that Frank doesn't do anything stupid. Which is when Frank starts setting off explosives, the building crumbling and panic building as guests start running.
In amongst this chaos Ray stays cool, waiting his chance, and when he sees the boss is about to fire, he takes his shot, bringing him down.
They all get out that time. Just. But Ray knows someone is after them, and he doesn't know who.

Date: 2011-08-02 08:10 am (UTC)The story would focus on Frank. Since he was a kid all he wanted to do was dance, but not any kind of dancing, no, he wanted to dance ballet. He loved watching the control and strength of the dancers and was inconsolable when his mom finally let him take classes, and he found out he couldn't wear one those awesome pink, sticky out skirts.
So Frank worked hard, and everyone kept telling him that while he was good he'd never make it to the top or actually dance lead in a production. They said who'd want a male partner so short or a prince who'd get lost in the swans.
Frank never listened, for every person who said he'd never make it he practised harder. He'd stay at the studio late into the night and when he couldn't afford to pay for more time he'd dance in any private places with room to move.
That's where Gerard first sees him. He's taking pictures for school, taking inspiration from the broken windows and exposed brickwork of an abandoned factory. Caught in the lines and awesome dusty corners, he's surprised to turn a corner and see Frank.
He's listening to an iPod, so Gerard can't hear the music, but that doesn't matter. Frank's compelling on his own, leaping and spinning and doing moves that look incredible. So caught up in the dance that he doesn't notice Gerard who stands behind the door taking pictures like some kind of creeper.
When Frank stops dancing, stands with his hands on his thighs and panting for breath, his hair in his face and t-shirt clinging to his back, Gerard thinks he's one of the most beautiful and wild things that he's ever seen.
But still, Gerard slips away. He spends the whole night telling Mikey about what he saw, showing him the pictures on the camera, and Mikey asks why he didn't stay and talk to him, and Gerard doesn't have any good answer.
So, the story goes on, Gerard keeps going back to that factory and sometimes Frank's there, sometimes he's not because Frank's having to work two jobs to pay for his classes and he's still practising extra hard for the end of term show where he's going to show that he may be short but he can still dance as the prince.
Then one time after he's been dancing for hours Frank's changing his shoes and as usual his feet are fucked, blistered and his nails broken, stuff he's used to but Gerard's not, and it's hearing his gasp that means Frank finally says, I know you're there.
And they talk and walk back to the subway together and Frank tells about his dreams and he's expecting Gerard to be dismissive or else too positive, but he's not. He asks questions and considers Frank's answers and seems to get what Frank wants is going to be almost impossible, but still, Gerard eventually says, 'You'll do it'

Date: 2011-07-31 04:38 pm (UTC)Actually, I'm writing about a pet boutique run by Mikey and Ryan, but I won't tell you about that story. I'll go with something different.
So, when Frank was growing up he always said he'd play in a band, and he does. He plays with them every weekend and practices twice a week and each time he loses himself in the music, thrashing around with his guitar and screaming out lyrics. But what he also does is run a pet shop. It's one of the small independent ones and the owner is in the process of setting up their second shop so tends to leave Frank in charge of this one. It means he has to do most of the work himself, except on a Saturday when Brendon comes in to help.
Frank loves his job, he gets to play with the animals and give advice and his own dog can come to work with him, lying under the counter as Frank serves his customers.
He also loves that the store is in a strip mall. Frank knows all the workers in the other stores, and sometimes when he's not busy he'll stand and have a cigarette with Ray who works two shops down in the music shop or pull faces at Mikey when he's dressing dummies in the window of Pete's boutique.
Frank also calls into Lindsey's tattoo parlour often. He says it's because he likes looking at the designs but everyone knows it's so he can go and moon over Jamia who does the piercings.
It would be a everyday story filled with Frank opening up the shop and walking his dog along the strip mall at lunch time and he'd pretend gag every time he sees Pete and Mikey kissing and steal sips of Gerard's coffee when he comes by to look at the animals and hi-five Lindsey when she gets an awesome write up in a trade magazine.
It would be a story about Frank asking Jamia out and Gerard nearly fainting when Pete asks if she could pierce his dick and how they're all suspicious when The Cab motors moves away and a new shop opens, one with a burly blond who glowers when they stare at him arranging flowers.
It would be a story about normal life, really :)

Date: 2011-07-31 02:18 pm (UTC)When reports start coming in about meteor shower about to hit Earth most people write it off as nonsense. Until the first meteor hits.
Within hours things descend into chaos, buildings falling and whole cities burning, hours after that and the first riots start. With nowhere safe, people panic, demanding answers and mobbing government buildings. Unable to cope, hospitals have to turn people away and the TV stations only show static.
On tour at the time the first My Chem know of the situation is when their bus is forced off-road, the driver trying to bypass a huge smoking crater. When that's impossible he turns off the CD and tunes into the radio, trying to find out what's happened in this tiny, god forsaken town.
A few minutes and he learns things have gone to hell the world over.
The band don't believe it at first. Shit like this doesn't happen, until they go outside and see streaks of fire in the sky and smoke all around. It's choking and bitter, enough they're all coughing as they cover their faces and try to call loved ones.
Thankfully they manage to get in their calls before the networks go down, making frantic plans to meet back in LA. Then their phones go dead and another meteor hits close by. It shakes the ground, throwing them to their feet, and the driver is getting back onto the bus, telling them to get in already.
So they do, and get all of a few miles before they hit the first wave of fleeing traffic, and are forced to slow down, only able to watch as more meteors streak through the sky, hitting the ground close by.
Then they'd have to abandon the bus and flee on foot, people would get burned and bashed up and Ray would save a kid stuck in a house that's on fire and when they cross a bridge it gets hit so Bob and Mikey are on one side, Ray, Frank and Gerard on the other. All the disaster clichés really.

Date: 2011-07-31 01:36 pm (UTC)When Gerard Way was a young boy he told everyone he was going to be the captain of a ship one day. Of course none of his teachers believed he could do it, they all told him that no one from their village had ever become a captain, and Gerard should keep his goals realistic, maybe a deck hand if he got onto the water at all. Each time Gerard would shake his head and say no, he was going to be a captain.
It was a dream his family encouraged, his grandma taught him to fight and bought his first sword, and Gerard took on two jobs to save gold. From that little start Gerard eventually bought his own ship.
It was small, bashed up and ugly, but it was water tight, and that's all Gerard needed. That and his crew. With Ray the cook, Otter the navigator, Frank the deck hand, and of course Mikey, who was at Gerard's side always, they set off on an adventure.
The first years were rough, they had to leave Otter on an Island when he decided a pirate's life wasn't what he expected. But gained Bob, who loved to stand at the wheel, his hair blowing in the breeze as he expertly steered. They also spent more time trading than actual pirating, which suited Gerard fine, because he really wasn't down with taking by force.
Then things change. It's Mikey's watch and by the time he hears someone climbing the side of the ship it's too late. Hit in the face with a club he goes down heavy, and when the others wake up next day it's to find pools of blood on the deck and a message pinned to the mast with Mikey's knife.
All the message says is, give us all of your gold or we kill him.
Mikey wakes up in a cage ( \o/ ) It's suspended from the side of another pirate ship and his whole body aches from lying on the wooden bars, except his head is pillowed on something soft. When he unsticks his eyes he sees that he's resting against a bundled up coat, and at the opposite side of the cage is a young boy, soaked through by the waves and bloodied and bruised.
When he sees that Mikey is waking he looks relieved, wincing as he gets onto his knees and crawls close and says, Hi, I'm Brendon. It turns out Brendon was taken from his own ship and is being held for ransom, and now that's happened to Mikey too. When he explains Brendon actually says sorry, like it's something he could have prevented and Mikey just shrugs and says, not your fault.
And Brendon can't stop talking, because he's been alone for days now, and as much as he tells himself things will be okay and that Spencer will find him it's getting harder to believe that, especially when Brendon hasn't eaten in forever and has resorted to licking rain water off the side of the ship. And now here's this new guy who's obviously concussed and barely following what Brendon is saying and Brendon feels so helpless that he wants to cry. Not that he will, he didn't when they took Ryan away and he won't now.
