As many people will know London has been hit by rioting the last few days, and it's been spreading out, reaching other cities now.

It's nowhere near where I live, but it's horrible to watch. People who've lost their homes and jobs, buildings going up in flames and buses targeted. Finally the PM has come home from his holidays, but I'm sure for many people it's too little, too late. Yesterday I was reading tweets and posts from friends who were close to the riots and their fear was so obvious.

Today my twitter time line is full of plans for a clean up and I hope this means things are calming down. And that people like Joel Madden will stfu and stop making over simplified tweets about the situation.

ETA: Mentioning Joel because I follow him, and he annoyed me big style this morning.

It is scary. The vast majority aren't even doing it for a reason, just using it as an excuse to make trouble.

It's scary! And I never understand why people feel the need to have opinions about things they don't know the first thing about. Even I realise that I need to know much more about the background to why it's suddenly erupting like this in these areas right now before I can even start having an opinion!

Seriously. He pissed me off so much this morning.

He'd been staying in London for some reason and tweeted that if it was his city he'd be out there defending it, and then earlier he was telling someone he couldn't understand why people weren't out there doing something. And it's all too easy for him to make stupid remarks like that, but people have been burned out of their homes and pulled off bikes and beaten up and chased along streets by mobs. Sometimes the only thing you can do is stay safe and let the authorities deal, and having some singer saying otherwise is ridiculous.

It really did annoy me. It was so irresponsible too, he has so many people following him. The last thing the police would want are more kids going out to fight because they think they should be defending their city.

Yeah, it's so "awesome" when someone who's not even remotely involved in a situation has to give his freaking 0.02 regardless of how irresponsible it might be. :-/

I think it's great when celebrities take an interest in world events and talk about it, but this wasn't, it was him spouting potentially dangerous bullshit.

I don't even know what to say, it seems the whole world is so effed up right now. I can't imagine that happening here in the states, all I feel is numb from the total bullshit that goes on in wahshington, but its probably only a matter of time before the hardcore anger kicks in. Hope all your friends are safe....

I feel so upset and worried with what is happening, I wish there'd be something I could do! I have been watching BBC News all day and I hope this will stop soon. It's really scary.

Definitely senseless. My friend said they looted a 99p shop near her yesterday - that just sums it all up, doesn't it? I worry for the people who have lost their homes and businesses - I hope the insurance will pay out (I know they don't for acts of terrorism, I'm not sure about rioting.) Am very angry about this and hope they people they've arrested are made to clear things up.

I've had the news on most of today and so many people have been affected. It was heart breaking to see so many people burned out of their homes for no reason.

It's so horrible, seeing every morning what happened during the night. Glad to know you're safe - but you're more away from the big cities anyway, aren't you? The worst thing is that this doesn't seem to even have any goal in mind (not that it would make what's happening the least bit better), it's just mindless violence of people who don't care about whose houses, shops or lives they destroy.

Yeah, I'm well away from any major city, it's extremely unlikely anything would happen in my small town.

That's it exactly. It is mindless violence, it's not helping or even protesting anything and just hurting a lot of innocent people.

It was horrifying to watch the riots happen here after the hockey play-offs, and that was only about 4 hours' worth. I can't even imagine what that must feel like. ♥
