The journey to the hospital yesterday went well, even if it did mean a far too early start to the day. The hospital itself was crazy, it had two restaurants, a dedicated coffee shop, a WH Smiths and a jewellery store just in the part we walked around. A jewellers, I don't get that at all, I mean, it wouldn't cross my mind to go to a hospital if I wanted to buy some jewellery. Though it did have an amazing metallic giraffe.

Also, Smiths had the MCR poster special, so I bought that and gazed happily while lounging on a couch in the waiting area. Of course now I don't want to take the magazine apart to get at the posters, I may have to just flick through them and admire every now and then. The intro did amuse me, especially as I was reading the same day dirty bandom went live.

As described by Tom Bryant

The first time I met Gerard Way, he stank. We were in New York in August 2004 and the city was being buffeted by a violent thunderstorm. Mt Chemical Romance had just been posing for a photo shoot and, quite honestly, they looked like they might have been anyone. It was the eve of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge's UK release and, at that precise moment, they were just another band, slight shabby, slightly tired, slightly bored.

And then the rain came down. Soaked, the band and I ran for a cab. I ended up next to Gerard, and soon regretted it. Slowly but surely, as the heat of the cab took hold, Gerard's wet jacket began to steam. The most virulent smell of cigarettes, sweat, stale booze, and God knows what else spread around the car. He looked apologetic, then said: You know it's bad when you disgust even yourself.

And this, people, is why the gross bandom challenge was so perfect. Also, this part made me grin later on.

His bandmates too -- Ray Toro, so talented, Mikey Way, so innocent, and Frank Iero so heartfelt were no less interesting and they prompted then drummer Bob Bryar, doing his first ever interview, not to be quite so modest and shy.

ETA: I typed the rest up here

The gross bandom stories/artwork have been delighting me, I haven't seen or read anything I haven't enjoyed yet, and I particularly love that so much GSF is happening. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the stories that have been posted overnight.

Not gross bandom, but I also read and loved [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight's Mikey/Alicia/Bebe story Plus One. I would read so much fic about Mikey and Alicia having sex with other people. So much!

Earlier I enjoyed looking at these old-new pictures from the Na NA Na video shoot. Especially seeing the close ups of the mail box and wall.

Looking at my user info I realised I've just missed my LJversary. 9 years, 3 defaults, 3 main fandoms and a hell of a lot of people who've stuck with me for a really long time, some from the very beginning. I love Live Journal. It's my home, and will be for a very long time, and that's all to do with the people ♥

Glad to hear that the hospital visit went well.

If I were you I would buy a second magazine. That way you can take one of them apart and keep the other for the future. Unless it's hideously expensive of course.

*snicker* Very fitting quote!

I still haven't had the time to read anything from moldypits but hopefully I will soon.

New Na Na Na pictures, awesome!

Happy anniversary!

Glad the hospital trip went well.

Cafe, florist, small gift shop/newsagent ... all these I can understand at a hospital but a jeweller? And restaurants? How big was this hospital?!

Aw, yay, thanks for typing up that article! My heart. And yes, very appropriate timing for that quote!

Happy Ljversary!

Huh, the one reason why there would be a jewelry store would be for relatives and friends to (maybe) buy trinkets for new mothers and their children? Like, a tennis bracelet with baby charms or the children initials? Grasping at straws Luce is grasping at straws.

His bandmates too -- Ray Toro, so talented, Mikey Way, so innocent, and Frank Iero so heartfelt were no less interesting and they prompted then drummer Bob Bryar, doing his first ever interview, not to be quite so modest and shy.

C&P this from your link. You know what turned me into mush when I read this? That you can deffo interchange the adjectives the reporter gives to MCR. Like, Toro is innocent, Frank's talented, etc. &band forever;

Happy (belated) LJversary. *\o/*

OK, I need to go to the English shop, which sells British newspapers and magazines among other things, to see whether they're selling this, too. But it is right next to my work, and I am sick and not working today because of it. So hmmm. I wonder. I hope they're selling it though... Maybe I should call and ask ;-)

Hospitals are horrible, but I hope all the MCR made it a little more bearable!!!

Also, those photos are so pretty!!!

You're the third person who's told me they got the special in Smiths, so I'm hoping my tiny little city-town will have it in theirs if I pop in before work tomorrow. Because I was in Glasgow today, and I forgot until the moment I stepped off the train - in my defence, there was a baby, who is just the cutest - and Lord knows when I'll next get through there. :/

But oh, oh man. It sounds amazing. (I would honestly kill to have some of the experiences Tom Bryant has had. Some of his gig reviews annoy me, but he's met so many awesome bands, been friends with them through the years, I just. So fucking jealous.)

I owe you a comment, I owe [livejournal.com profile] inlovewithnight a comment, I feel like I owe everyone comments. /o\ In other news, happy anniversary! ♥

Thank you! And yes, I'm glad of that too ♥

I haven't seen a transcript, but it's not that long so I typed the rest up for you.

But then Gerard started talking properly. He had given up drink and drugs just 12 days earlier after a series of episodes, collapses and freak-outs that suggested he was close to the edge. He confessed all of this -- his dark nights of the soul, his demons and his fears -- to me, a stranger, in the back of a New York cab. It was simply fascinating.

His bandmates too -- Ray Toro, so talented, Mikey Way, so innocent, and Frank Iero so heartfelt were no less interesting and they prompted then drummer Bob Bryar, doing his first ever interview, not to be quite so modest and shy.

That evening, I watched them play at the Irving Plaza. They blew me away. Gerard was a mad professor, whirling and whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Frank twirled on the spot: spinning, collapsing, but still playing. Ray's afro caught the lights, lending him a halo of hair, as his guitar spat brutal eloquence into the night. Mikey beamed at the crowd, locked in with Bob. They were sensational.

I looked around at the crowd and they were a great mass of seething bodies. Then I looked at the balcony where I was standing to see the Way family, the Iero family and the Toro family, all there to watch their kids. All in My Chem T-shirts. All headbanging.

From then on it was clear that -- far from being a band who weren't going to make it, as I initially thought -- this was a band who could change everything. And they did, on every level. Who else was making videos with the Gothic melodrama of Helena, who else spoke with such intrigue, who wrote songs marrying anguish, fantasy and honesty with such thrilling music?

As their career unfolded, it was clear they would push themselves to the edge for their art: the vision and the drama of The Black Parade sent Mikey to therapy, and nearly sent the rest crazy. Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys bravely reversed the stark blacks and whites of its predecessor to come swathed in glorious Technicolor -- but not before driving them to the brink of break-up before its creation.

There's one thing though, that says everything about My Chemical Romance. In 2006, when they were bottled mercilessly at Reading Festival Gerard promised never to return unless they were headliners. In 2011 they did exactly that. It's that determination, those victories, that make My Chemical Romance special.

In 2004, my first interview with My Chemical Romance ended with Gerard saying one thing. 'Without sounding completely out of my mind,' he said calmly: I believe anything is possible.'

He was dead right.

I love them so much. So much.

Our local hospital is a mix of bleak and more modern where they've added next parts, but nothing like that one. I couldn't believe how many places there was to eat, and the jewellers continues to baffle me.

Her consultant will have got the results today, now it's a case of him sending out an appointment to say what they were. A case of wanting to know and not wanting at the same time.

9 years really is a lifetime. Codes and three icons seem like forever ago.

Everytime Mikey described as "innocent" it makes me laugh because it just seems so very at odds with what it appears he was doing during that time period.

Am I imagining it or is there another interview - an old one I think? - that mentions how smelly Gerard was? It's also one of his defining character-traits at this point. If he was a RPG character would it be + defense?

Thanks for typing up the whole text.

The innocent comment made me laugh a lot when I read it. At that point he'd been anything but innocent for a long time. It's those contractions about him that I love the most, that he has these façades that different people see.

I'm sure there was, of course I can't think of which one right now. But I think it's widely acknowledged that he had a big odour problem. He can easily attack people with his stench *g*
