A typical exchange when I've finished a story tends to be along the lines of:

Me: OMG! Done! Okay, the ending is kinda weak, but maybe my awesome beta person won't notice. Who knows, it could be stronger than I think *sends, but always with added comment about potential weaknesses because I suck at effective cover ups*
Awesome beta person: Erm, your end isn't as good as it could be, I suggest this.1
Me: I knew it /o\

At which point I rework and add however many more words it needs, which in the case I'm talking about are quite a few. You'd think I could cut this whole performance out, but it seems not. Ending a story is such a weak point for me.

I really need to get a start on the big bang story too.

It's cold here today, I've had to shove the snake against the door to stop the drafts and earlier I just caught Tex escaping when the gate was blown open. For an old dog he can sure move fast. So, some hot orange is in my future, maybe a game of Fall Out Boy trail. I was thinking if I let one of them die early on it means more food and less usage of vitamin water. Oh man, I'm thinking tactics for FOBtrail. I need an intervention, or to get past California at least.

1 Unless you're one of my long term betas who tend to just go. Write more! &them;

You always pull it off, so why do you worry yourself so? Silly girl.

It just seems like more work for my beta readers, the less work for them the better.

It's okay. I don't actually read the stories, I just have a macro in Word which randomly highlights text in different colours and then puts WRITE MORE at the end. ;-)

You know, I'd believe that except for that one glorious day when you saw a story and uttered the magic words.

It doesn't need more.

At which point unicorns frolicked, rainbows sprung from the ground and every sparkly boy in the land stopped and sang to the heavens.

That is extremely awesome.

Every site should contain sparkly unicorns!

I'm sure all would survive. All writers seem to have their one thing they just can't get over. Endings must be yours. ;-)

I suppose there could be worse things to have problems with.

And I could always use the 'they fell off a cliff and died' approach. That's solid *g*

Judging by the many, many unsatifactory endings I've read in fanfic (AND in books!!) you're not the only writer who's problems with endings. And you'e a smart person and use betas instead of foisting them on your readers in their original shapeless state as so many others!!

Endings are so hard to judge, I especially find that when I've been writing a longer story because the end is in sight and I just want it done. The end of Sound Tracking changed radically and the end of the h/c story of doom will have to, too.

It's why I love the betas I have all tell me the truth because I'd hate to put out something that wasn't as good as I could make it. Even if that does mean being told I need three extra scenes.

Though as one of those scenes involves greatly expanding a Bob/Gerard part, well, at least you'll have a thousand words or so you can read *g*

Sometimes my endings just peter out as well, but it isn't a consistent problem. I think I haven't settled into consistent ones yet besides switching tenses. That is always a struggle.

Yes! Make it longer! We want an epically epic Panic H/C story!

Tenses. Meh. My issues with them are if I try anything other than present it feels wrong, and I end up changing it back.

Dude! No!

Saying that, it is going to end up longer. I need to extend the Jon and Brendon scene, and all of the end. Which is the happy part, and I skimped on it. Maybe Brendon should run away again, that would bump it up *g*

I have a similar problem. In that I can do the ending with no real difficulty, but the leadup to the ending? Nooo idea.
