I'm really loving [livejournal.com profile] adayinmylife. It's fascinating seeing how people live, the different stores and houses, the things they do, how they furnish their homes. I'm enjoying every post I read.

Updating on the ATM situation. On Wednesday night the police visited and took a statement, and also told us that a card reader had been found in the Co Op ATM. There's an investigation going on in our county in terms of who installed the reader, but because the money was taken out in a different county if they arrest anyone for that I'd need to go to court down there.

James was talking to the staff at the Co Op this morning and they've got camera footage of the people putting in the reader. They did so at 3am on Saturday morning and removed it at midday, we used it at 11. But we got off lucky, one woman who works in the store has lost £800. The thieves did try to install the reader again, but by that time the situation had been reported so they failed at the attempt.

And wow, someone just knocked at the door, I answered and was faced with a very edgy Jehovas Witness. We belong to organisation that stops anyone trying to sell on the doorstep, so have a sticker on the letterbox saying that. This guy got his edge on saying how was anyone supposed to see that? Then he tried his spiel and when I said I wasn't interested he wanted to know why, what my reasons were for not talking to him and was I not interested in God? I told him no and shut the door in his face, which is rude but man, take a hint already!

Anyway, back to the ATM. In a shocking turn of events we got our money back this morning. So good on Nationwide, because I was worried about that

So much yay for getting your money back! That's excellent!

And I can't believe the nerve of those thieves trying to reinstall the card reader. Or the nerve of the Jehovah's Witness.

Good morning!

I was so happy this morning, the bank really stepped up.

I know! Actually going back astounded me, they already had 9 hours worth of numbers and yet they went for more.

Man, the Jehovah's witness still has me rattled. He was this older dude in a smart suit and he keep smiling while demanding I talk to him. Tex was barking like crazy and the guy wanted to come in my house and talk about God. I think not.

Then I feel bad about shutting the door in his face but he wouldn't go /o\

Good morning to you! I missed you yesterday. You nearly got many rage-filled emails.

I usually bad mouth banks (I use credit unions), but I'm glad they stepped up for you and in such a quick fashion. It shows they aren't all bad.

Jehovah's Witnesses are scary at any age. Sometimes being rude is the only way to go.

Awww. I missed you yesterday too! I got some serious, weird family news that I am still boggling over (you nearly got a flaily, WTF email) and work was kind of busy, so no time for it, unfortunately.

Hopefully all your rage has passed and you are on happier ground today. *sends calming thoughts across the ocean*

Sorry about the weird family news. Families are such a problem at times, and if you still need to flail you know where I am.

I'm very calm today. It was just a BBB fic that made me all, grrrrr. And a discussion that I had to join in on because people were saying things that were horribly wrong. But that ended up in a satisfying manner, so all was good.

I highly disagree. I have great friends that are Witnesses and they're not scary. People just have closed minds when it comes to them from pre-conceived notions.

I hate stupid people. I hope those thieves get caught and you get your money back. Here in the US our bank takes care of the matter if there is a fraud like that.

Religious types. I'm usually ok with, but I probably would have told the guy something stupid like. "Please allow me to pray for your soul to be forgiven of your heathen ways... I'll sacrifice something and drink human blood for you after dusk."

They're got surveillance pictures of the thieves, whether they'll be caught is another matter. I hope so. Thankfully the bank did give us our money back, which is such a relief.

Religious types don't bother me at all, but this guy was so insistent that I'd be afraid to say something like that. He would have probably barged his way in to prey for me. Excellent comeback, though.

Wow, a card-reader. I'm happy you got your money back, that's good.

I just looked at [livejournal.com profile] adayinmylife and that's fascinating. The first page has four Ashleys. When the girls were born, so many people told me not to use the name Ashley, because it was weird, and a boy's name. I guess I wasn't the only one who liked it back in the 80s.

It's very nifty how they get the numbers and pins, also scary that they can add them to ATMs so easily.

I think Ashley is a lovely name, and very unisex. Then again, I keep getting told Terri is a boys name, so some people are just stuck in their ways I guess.

Yay! I'm so glad you got your money back. I've had my eyes opened about how easily it is to clone cards. We're told to be careful not to share pins, keep your card close and be careful with details, and yet it can still happen.

It is annoying to straighten out. The bank has been great but it's taken multiple phone calls and we're still waiting for the new cards to arrive.

Dude, I'm awful about people trying to sell me stuff over the phone or coming to my house to talk about religion or about stuff they want to sell me. If the person doesn't take my first 'no' and go away, I hang up or slam the door in their face. I just. No patience for that crap. :|

Good thing, our kitchen window is located next to the door, so we usually perk out who's standing by the door, and if they are people like that, we just ignore them.

That's great that the bank returned your money! Some decency left in the world at any rate.

And, speaking of the exact opposite - the JW was already breaking the rules of social courtesy, so I don't believe you had any obligation to follow them either. That type of person (whether selling religion or anything else) is just exploiting other people's niceness. I stopped feeling bad about hanging up on telemarketers a long time ago for this same reason.
