Oct. 3rd, 2009 11:28 amCorey's at scout camp this weekend, James couldn't stay over but he's there for the day today and tomorrow. Unfortunately the area is under a severe gale warning at the moment and last time James phoned half of the big marquee tents had blown down, so they may end up home early yet. Though I suspect they'll hang on as long as possible, getting 700 scouts and 200 leaders home early would be a nightmare.
It was also the start of Houghton Feast last night. There was fireworks and I could hear the fair so easily, the sound of music and people screaming carried on the wind. This afternoon there's a parade and I can see the wind affecting that badly. Not that I'm going, I'm staying in wrapped in my fleecy blanket because the wind is coming in every gap in the house. It's driving the cats insane.
Yesterday I got a lovely comment about 'When Day is Night Alone', included was a link where they'd made their own playlist to go with the story, which I found very touching and also interesting. I don't listen to music when I write, it distracts me too much, so I'm not a person who could make a playlist based on my stories, but looking at the one they made I could easily see how each choice matched parts of the story.
Talking of. My h/c story is now finished, too. Which means I'm sitting on two complete stories just waiting for posting dates. It all feels very weird. What's not weird is the h/c stories and art that are being posted. They are my favourites!
To end on a gleeful note Look what's out!

Date: 2009-10-03 10:42 am (UTC)Yes. Stay all warm and fuzzy in your fleece. :D It's actually *cold* outside.. but you'd laugh because its not really cold. It's 23*c right now... but its been like 35-41*C all summer so.. it's cold >:|
I have songs that I listen to when I'm in a mood and plotting out fic but I rarely listen to it while I'm writing.
I WANT IT TO BE TUESDAY TERRI! I WANT TO POST MY FIC. >.< *is getting impatient*
We have a Lush store in the mall I work next too. When I worked days I would walk by and always be tempted to go into it. I still do.

Date: 2009-10-03 11:25 am (UTC)I love that people the world over have different views on what are hot and cold temperatures. At 23 I'd be getting out the fans, 35-41 would kill me off.
Music distracts me when I'm writing, I do much better when I'm alone and have everything turned down to a low background noise.
I want you to post your fic too!
I have such love for Lush stuff. Sadly I don't get it that often because it's kinda expensive, but that's what Christmas and birthdays are for :D

Date: 2009-10-03 11:28 am (UTC)The temperature really has dropped suddenly, and the wind is annoying me. I kept going to stand the wheelie bin back up but have given up now.
I have my red fleecy blanket and coffee #4 of the day is next to me as I get ready to watch CSI :D

Thank you <3

I'm trying to think of a title right now. The few I've thought of aren't really appropiate.

Date: 2009-10-03 01:33 pm (UTC)It's getting cold here AND it's rainy. On one hand, I like wearing scarves and boot socks without sweating to death. On the other - I'm *really* not ready for cold.
*finds you another fleecy blanket*
That is a lovely comment - and her playlist made me grin, particularly the last track.
I don't listen to music when I write, it distracts me too much
It always surprises me when people say that, though that seems to be the way many folks work. I think I've said it before [and if so, I apologize for the belaboured point], but I *need* music to write. Music and a lively public environment - like a coffeehouse or pub - work well for me, because they 1)give my monkey mind something to be distracted by and 2)force me to concentrate.
Congrats on finishing your story!!!
*throws confetti*
Did you get the proper amount of comfort in there? what am I saying - of course you did. :D I can't wait to read it...

Date: 2009-10-03 01:47 pm (UTC)It seems to have jumped from warm to cold really abruptly. I much prefer cold weather but it still needs some adjusting to.
It was such a cool playlist. I was very flaily when I saw she'd actually read and then applied music to the story. That was so cool.
I'm so opposite to you in terms of concentration. I'd never be able to write a word in a coffeehouse or pub. I guess we'd have to meet half way if we ever did in person co-writing *g*
I did put in more comfort. I was prodded by beta fingers until I did so.

Date: 2009-10-03 01:36 pm (UTC)Squee!
I hope Corey and the other scouts are okay. We once had to go pick up my son from cub scout camp because of tornadoes in the area. That was one terrifying drive up there and back, let me tell you. We probably should have just trusted the camp to keep him safe, but he sounded so freaked out on the phone that the mister said we were going to get him, period. But all the terror aside, it turned out all right.

Date: 2009-10-03 01:51 pm (UTC)I can totally understand your reaction to go get your son. Honestly I'm getting worried myself. Where they're camping is next to woods and last time James phoned he was saying how branches are being snapped down and how the marquee has collapsed again despite being re built with long iron rods. I'm sure it will be fine but I can't help picturing flying tents and trees.

Date: 2009-10-03 01:44 pm (UTC)I can listen to music when I write, if the outside world is being too distracting, but i can't listen to music for writing. Like, I couldn't come up with a playlist for any of my stories, either, because if I'm writing the music has to be background noise. It can't be something I need to pay attention to, or that I depend on for mood or inspiration, because then the music itself becomes a distraction. I always boggle at people who use music like that -- to put them in a particular headspace or something.
YAY STORIES!!
And oooh, Lush. I love Lush. If I had a bathtub I would be in danger of spending way too much money ordering from Lush. But I do enjoy my Happy Hippie shower gel a lot.

Yes! That's it exactly. You've explained much better than I ever have. When I write I tend to have music tv on for background noise, but I couldn't have music playing on my computer because it would be a huge distraction.
YAY you I think :)
The Lush shower gel is awesome. It smells so much better than anything I could buy in other shops.

Wow, Christmas cosmetics! Even if I think it's a bit too early for Christmas stuff, they're still awesome.

Date: 2009-10-03 02:59 pm (UTC)It's the first time anyone has ever done one for one of my stories. It's all very cool.
Normally I'd agree it's far too early for Christmas themed stuff, for example, my local supermarket has been selling Christmas cards, chocolates, etc for over a month now and it drives me mad. But Lush stuff is different, because Snow Fairy!

Date: 2009-10-03 05:48 pm (UTC)That's so sweet of them. I don't get playlists at all either. I can only listen to music if I'm doing manual work like washing the dishes or cooking, never if I'm reading or working in Photoshop or any thing else on the computer. Music just distracts me then.
Go you! But I want to read them NOW!
You and your Lush obsession :-)

Date: 2009-10-03 08:43 pm (UTC)It was really awesome of them, and interesting to see the song choices because it's just something I can't do. I'm like you, music going when I'm doing housey stuff but otherwise, nope.
I want to post them now! Though maybe not together, that's not the best plan.
They have snow fairy solid perfume this year. Stars. In. My. Eyes!
